  • Very difficult Qaida. Nice play and control on all words. Great Ustad

  • If I was half as good as Zakir ji, I'd definatley enter Britain's got talent.

  • dha ti dha gay na dha tirkit dha ti dha gay dhin na gi na !

my fav. kaida ! i play it almost all the time !

  • Respond to this video...

    wonderful,awesome

  • a master. thats all!!

  • Awesome..

  • wahh ustad wah

  • I find that more annoying than anything. I give the man respect for the coordination and discipline that takes, but I find the sound unbearable.

  • @aceisgreat2008 You should hear the real sound of him playing in person, but i agree the way it sounds due to the sound quality is kind of annoying.

  • @Trinigoodboi its is probably like most live recordings on youtube, better in person, so Ill give you that one

  • @aceisgreat2008 so next time don't listen.

  • @pmindian I'm sure I'd appreciate it more in person, so I suppose my opinion is unfortunately in a sense biased.

  • The epitome of epicness = Ustaad Zakir Hussain. Respect.

  • What I would like to know is the raga played here. Swapan Chaudhury plays to the same tune but I'd like to know it's name.

  • As someone else put it this guy is not of this world and is truly God given to us normal people. We owe so much to his devotion and are blessed to view such great performances on YouTube.

  • Great Zakir hussein!!(from Asib)

  • TEREKETA / KETETAK at that speed is unbeivable......

  • he also plays-

dhati dhagina dhatereketa dhati dhage thunagina (at lightning speed)

    subsequently..

  • @mouli98410 I agree with you. But I liked the - Dhati dhage nadha KITETAK dhati dhaga tina gina, which he told is of Ustad Habibuddin Khan sahab... , than that of Dhati dhage nadha tirekit .......... Really electrifying speed!!!!

  • I have never seen, other than Zakir Sahab, playing this dilli kayda so fast!!!!...... wah wah wah ustad

  • @rpb1231 hey do u hav the notes for that Kayda? or do u know the notes? it would be amazing if u could share..thanks

  • @takno99 its the most famous kaida of dilli gharana-

dhati tedha tite dhadha tite dhage tina gina

tati teta tite tata tite dhage dhina gina.

I have devided it equally into 16 beats so that u can understand it better....

  • @rpb1231 Search for Miyan Shaukat Hussain here. He plays a modified much more difficult version of this Kaida. I have never seen any other Tabla player play it. (It's a combination of Tete Dhete..)

  • @selectivesloth I noticed one thing that ustad miyan shaukat hussain sahab was playing the kaida faster than zakir sahab... but sincerely in my point of view, zakir sahab has enormous kind of energy that makes the sound of his tabla louder and crisper, which i dont find in any other tabla player ...except for a few like tari khan sahab and pt anindo chatterjee sahab... :) thanks for the video suggession ..

  • @rpb1231 Current day Tabla players have access to far superior sound technology and so the recording quality of their renditions is far superior to the ancestral masters. Try listening to Anokhelal Mishra, Samta Prasad, Thirakwa Saheb, etc. Keep in mind the recording quality is usually pathetic at least compared to current standards. You can also try Tafu Khan, he is inhuman when it comes to speed and clarity.

P.S. Tari Khan is a humble student of Miyan Shaukat .. :)

  • @rpb1231 But more than anything else, Tabla playing is about personality. Each artist relates to the instrument differently. Zakir has a wonderful way of engaging with the Tabla. And while it's usually fruitless to compare Tabla legends, it helps to remember that modern day recording standard does MUCH better justice to the actual quality of what is rendered by the artist.

  • @selectivesloth I agree with whatever you say .. I have heard all of them and they are real maestroes. Our point of views differ a little may be bcause that I am a die hard fan of Zakir Sahab n from my side, generally the dicision always goes in favr of him :) I have researched on zakir sahab a lot. if you ask anyone in India about zakir, majority of thm say they kno him or they hav heard him . if u ask any random person abt any other tabla player, they say we havnt ever hrd of him!! wts d rsn?

  • @rpb1231 I think there are two reasons for this phenomenon. The first one is marketing. Ravi Shankar has been one of the biggest marketeers of Indian Classical music to the western world. Allah Rakha was the Tabla player who usually accompanied him. And so, along with Ravi Shankar, Allah Rakha too was able to introduce himself to the west. No wonder Allah Rakha has been very popular amongst western connoisseurs. Zakir, being his son, has naturally followed suit.

  • @rpb1231 There have been many Tabla legends, no less than Allah Rakha, but most people haven't even heard of them. Some Tabla greats, in fact lived and died in poverty. The reason few people know about them is because they never marketed themselves; nor did anyone else market them. Ustad Nizammudin Khan is one example. Try listening to him on here. He was a Guru-Bhai of Allah Rakha; I am not entirely sure though.

  • @rpb1231 The second reason is a bit more complex. Indians are generally incapable of appreciating their ancient hertitage, cultural and/or otherwise, unless the same has first been appreciated by the west. Yoga is one example. So, someone like Zakir Hussain becomes a Tabla maestro par excellence if hailed by the west to be so. Otherwise, he remains just another Tabla player!

  • @rpb1231 Are you aware that Zakir Hussain prefers to sit near Ustad Tafu Khan's feet? There is a video here; try searching for "Zakir and Tafu" (You will see my comments there).

But how many people know about Tafu Khan? Similarly, how many people know about Anokhelal Mishra's absolutely unparalleled genius? Close to zero marketing, once again..

Try listening to him, especially his na dhin dhin dha..

It is inhuman. And remember, BAD recording!! :)

  • @selectivesloth friend, you seem to be an expert.. I am just a beginner in this .. I have heard nizamuddin khan saheb and he is genius I should say .. I did not know abt zakir ji's views on tafu sahab. however, I feel really sad as a tabla player and a musician that many of the musicians have died as unsung heroes and thats the reason people are afraid to make their career in music. what say??. thanks for the video suggessions i will watch them.. thanks :)

  • @rpb1231 Well, if you look around yourself, you might find that Indians tend to be generally scared of pretty much everything around them!

  • @selectivesloth thanks a lot for the sugesions .. thanks for helping :)

  • @rpb1231 P.S. Anokhelal Mishra practiced one-finger teen-taal theka on a piece of stone everyday when he used to go for taking a bath. After many years of doing this, his index finger developed sufficient strength for him to be able to sustain extremely high tempos while playing one-finger teen-taal. NO Tabla player in recorded history has been able to duplicate this.

  • @rpb1231 Allah Rakha said of Ustad Tafu once: "If any body plays faster than this, he will die of heart failure."

  • @selectivesloth woow .. today's world asks one for his own marketting to be famous . I really thank you to provide me all these information ... I will hear all of them ... please can you suggest me some really quality videos of some great unsung heroes of indian tabla?

Many thanks for sharing this with us.

  • I think this is Zakir bhai's performance during Guruji's (Pt. Anindo Cahtterjee) Birthday two years back... Any Tabla player needs to see the entire performnce to believe what exactly happened...

    Awesome........Nothing can be so pure...

  • @tablaavijit This was 5 years back, in 2005!
