  • this reminds me of that computer game Monkey Island

  • "The redoubtable beast has had pegasus pills" - surely one of the best lyrics ever!

  • Haha Oh yea! Totally Agree

  • the best band at this time. Big music and big voice!

  • This is brilliant.

  • Got to love the contrast between Richard Hawleys deep smooth voice and Guys rough lighter voice, excellent song.

  • the other singer in this song sounds a bit like nick cave

  • Loveee <3

  • This band reminds me of Procol Harum

  • wow, haven´t even thought of that! but you´re so right! :D

  • My favourite song by elbow

  • My daughter has covered this with a band- check this out on youtube: The Fix by Groove Academy's Wanderlust. We are both massive Elbow fans and saw them live some months ago, probably the best conceert we have been to.

  • the fix is so djef

  • I lvoe this whole song.

  • I love the part that goes "cause it ain't left to chance that we win". The Wordless part in the middle is also great.

  • The song is about Horse Racing. Note the word, "jockey" and "saddles." xD Lovely song and kinda spooky melody. xD

  • It's about fixing a horse race.

  • They played this live at the end of either Grame Noreton or Johnathan Ross and its adictive.

  • TIM DALY'S A SCUTTERBUCKET!

  • whats this for music sort?

  • this song makes me laugh,

does it remind anyone else of scar off The lion king?

  • Good call!

  • this song is so damn happening...love it :)

  • Too bad Youtube converts almost every sound to Mono. This song is so awesome and it's even better and more atmospheric in stereo. A lot of sounds gets cut out when stereo->mono converting commences.

  • Try viewing some back catalogue on Youtube, you might find other stuff you like. The middle 2 albums are different again: Cast of Thousands and Leader of the Free World. If you buy the CDs you will probably get some live stuff - they tend to give away bits!

Oh and their very best, cult song is a cover of Destiny's Child "Indpendent women" also available on youtube.... a must for a giggle!

Note to self: get the Live Lounge session (Amy Winehouse covers too)

  • @PobbleRedFlannel You forgot Asleep in the Back, probably one of the best albums ever made. It's even by Elbow :D

  • Think this is spooky grab some back catalogue

"I'll be the corpse in your bathtub, stupid..."

  • I can only guess that the song you are talking about is called "Newborn", and I think it goes like this: "I'll be the corpse in your bathtub, useless..."--"useless", not "stupid". And although the content might be considered spooky or a bit disturbing, I don't find the melody really spooky at all; not as in "The Fix". I like "The Fix" because it's got a fun and kooky, almost Halloween-like vibe to it.

  • Sorry hun, he sings "stupid" live - come to think about he he mimes hanging too - not drowning, hey ho!! :D

I can only guess you didn't find them "all" those years ago and haven't grown with them but have come to them lately, perhaps with this song/album!

  • Yep. I heard "The Fix" on the radio on Halloween - thought it was great and suited the festivities. I haven't seen anything live.

  • Marvelously spooky melody.

  • great song. its just stuck in my head.

  • been listening to this for days now..

    never get sick of it..

    go elbow..

  • This song led me to check out Richard Hawley, who is also very good. He's the singer with the low voice; a great combination with Guy Garvey's tenor, in my opinion.

  • gota love it! :D woop woop to elbow!

  • this and grounds for divorce are tied for best song in my world :)

  • is great^_^i like the editors too.

  • love this song. it's how I found out about elbow. We used to play this at my workplace, which was a cafe that also held bdsm fetish nights and sold erotic paraphenalia. I thought this was a very fitting song for the antics that went on!

  • Lol dude :) Whether you're joking or not, this was a funny post :)

  • ah, beautiful song, lovely :)

  • It's about fixing a horse race. Quality song as well!

  • Grat song!!!

But what is this song talking about? Is a fuking acid trip??? lol

  • As Garvey said at Glasto- "This song is about fixing a horse race"

  • i saw this on "johnathan ross show" and was totally hooked....great band ...very underestimated

  • they did this really well on the culture show, the whole album is col tho, one day like this at glasto was amazin!!

  • Absolutely fantastic. I heard this on a tv show, had never heard of them before but love this.

  • I really love this song:)

    it just rocks, simple:)

  • Guy Garvey & Richard Hawley - is there a better combination? I love this song.

  • Wow

  • Brilliant song. I think I'm gonna see them in Vancouver this May, as long as they don't sell out. Does anyone know how they are live?

  • superb as ever

  • even better than the album. its them; but live. that simple. ive seen em live 3 times. sheer brilliance.

  • absolutely brilliant
