  • and at 7:10 they restate the intro

  • this is foot prints, but the intro is (basically) just the first 4 bars of waynes original tune " Fall " vamped as he solos over it, then they go in to footprints. in any case i love this version of Footprints.

  • "Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand..."

  • Love the groove. I can listen to it over and over again. Terri Lyne Carrington is killin´ it here!

  • yes it does, deal with it

  • @ilovemusic53211

That's hilarious -- someone said this sounds like Rio by Duran Duran!

  • Interesting comment below re: Duran Duran....

I hear the similarity too, but I doubt that Wayne Shorter was familiar with them back then, or in 1987 - which is when I first heard him use that melodic line over the 'turnaround' to "Footprints"...

  • in fact the turnaround is the cycle of dominant that return to the main theme..!

altough he uses it in there for the intro..

  • Dear Mr. Agocaligiuri:

Sorry, your comment is unclear regarding

    "cycle of dominant"....

Please re-phrase your comment; I would be happy to read it.

  • cycle of dominat means that here is a turnaround that make a "bridge" to the main theme, instead of a symple V dominat chord,

  • sorry if i'm wrong, but cycle of dominant is when you treat your V dominant as your II, so that the V resolves to the V dom of your new I chord, the I chord that is a whole step below your original V chord. this follows the cycle of fifths, except you only pay attention to the root of the chord, not its color tones. so if you had a Gdom7, you would follow it with a Cdom7, which you could follow with a Fdom7, and so on until you get back to wherever, like the main theme in this case. (i think)

  • i think that's what csilva was asking about...whatever, maybe this post will help somebody

  • isn't it a ii v?

  • the start sounds like Rio by duran duran rofl :P crazy
