  • Who cares,16 is legal in many states. In the 1800s girls were getting married at 14 and 15 years old. Also Randy Newman made a song and including dating a 16 year old girl in the lyrics. The song is tilted "Rednecks".I'm black American by the way people.16 is ok if you are in love, and in a state that allows 16 to be legal,I'm 30 something.

  • I love this song so much

  • the words he uses makes it seem like so much more than he just wants a young girl. its the most beautiful LOVE song lyrics. its like he wants to rescue her from something.

  • Fucking creepiest clip to an AOR ballad ever! Full of win.

  • In response to everyone saying he's a pedophile, I'd just like to point out that there are plenty of guys who fantasized about Lindsay Lohan or Mary Kate and Ashley or Megan Fox before they were 18. I remember there was a countdown for the Olsen twins to turn 18! I'd be willing to bet that quite a few of you who are commenting thought about those girls when they weren't legal.

  • A Beautiful song, about Love.

  • Thank you for posting this video! Great, great 80's tune!!!

  • So-called parental love may have been the inspiration for the song, but the song itself is about a man hot for a 16-year old girl. Listen to the lyrics. There's no ambiguity. Besides, Benny has changed his story over the years. Search youtube for his video "Farewell to Angie McCartney". He gives a completely different story about the origin of the song.

I think both explanations are bogus, but die-hard Benny fans will defend him no matter what. Doesn't matter-- it is still a beautiful song.

  • @callawaymarilyn I'm going to go on a limb and say that video "Farewell to Angie McCartney" is a fake / joke. The Berlin Blitzkrieg was during WWII. Mardones was born in 1946, a year after WWII ended.

  • One of those songs that a gal wants her man to play for her; to express his feelings in this manner.

Also - I love the authentically 80s gear on Benny, esp the pink sox. :)

  • For those who think this song and/or video are perverse, have you ever seen Amy Grant's vidoe for "Baby, Baby?" That song was written for her daughter when she was a baby, but the video is about a couple, not the baby. Because the video does not track with the explanation for the song does not mean the explanation is not true. So ease up - this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  • one of those tunes you hear when around friends and play it cool and go "what a cheesy tune and such.." 30 minutes later you are driving in your car balling your eyes out and singing along to this tune

  • 02:20 You really don't want to do that Benny, ...the police are on there way.

  • I also thought that the forbidden love was because he was a "pervert" :)

but i really love this song. his voice just takes you away

  • The song came out in 1980 and he just turned 65, so he was probably 33 when the video was made. The video clearly contradicts his claim all these years that the song is about "parental love" and not about wanting to be with a 16 year old girl. I love the song, but I wish he had made the girl 18, instead of 16. Makes him sound like a perv, and he's not.

  • Bascially hes a grown man in love with a 16 year old. How old was he here?

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this! This video was here a few months ago and then disappeared. So glad to see it back. Love this song.

  • Awesome song!

  • This shit is hilarious! I love this song and it's mystique, but I'll never get the image at 1:25 out of my head, and I'll always laugh when I hear this now. That kinda sucks. LOL. But he's kind of a real jeepers creepers.

  • @thehamptonskickass I love this song n Benny but what do you mean you cant get the image @ 1:25 out of your head? What is funny abt it?

  • @thehamptonskickass I too am perplexed at your comment about the image at 1:25. Exactly what is about the image that you find compelling? What is it that induces you to "always laugh when [you] hear this now?"
