  • I wish they still made music like this! The closest modem thing that is as mellow as this (that other 17 year olds will listen to) is mellow dubstep, for example skream. I am so jealous of the generation who were Braught up with this :'/

  • Beth's voice is just amazing. Music is just mesmerizing. Jools Holland looks funny.

  • wow that is fat beyond words!!!!! :)

  • The audience has no clue what just hit them, there minds are now wandering amongst the stars.

  • 0:50 the eyes of intense sorrow

  • OH PUTAIN ! ♥

  • It's nice to actually see Beth's eyes, they're pretty.

  • Wonderiiing StAr!!!!! Lalalalala -3

  • There is something betwen me and my perception of Beth Gibbons..

    ..i think its LOVE

  • jools needs his locks back.

  • esta rola una chela y mi karnal el omar,,pura vida???pronto nos vermos harmano mientras disfruta de esta maravilla

  • the blackness of darkness forever

  • Best TV Show ever !

  • sorrow personified - she makes me go "ouch"

  • I never really gave this song a chance for the first few years i got into Portishead, but now it's one of my favorites for sure.

  • I LOVE YOUR MUSIC PORTISHEAD!!!!!

  • DL the audio from this song at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • estrella errante

  • so, it must be pronounced Portis-head, not Portishead ?

  • @Omatunto yes. I met Andy Smith (the DJ) a few years ago and he always pronounces it like that.

See also: DJ Food (food for DJs, not DJ called food) and Massive Attack (attack of the massive, not attack which is massive).

  • whats that he use to make the guitar sounds like that?

  • @zakifarrah I think he's running a pen or something over the strings. I've seen some guitarists use a drumstick to disturb the strings like that. Nels Cline from Wilco and Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead have done similar things with screwdrivers and whisks and the like. Any small rod like object will work. At the beginning I think there's a tremolo pedal on the chords (couldn't say which one though).

  • @zakifarrah : It's known as `glissando guitar', originated by Syd Barrett but fully developed by Daevid Allen of Gong, who stroked the guitar strings with a series of gynaecological tools which he found to be ideal for the job. It is augmented by plenty of echo delay to give the sound its hovering spacious quality.

  • @Renato molto fico!!

  • fico!!

  • she looks so dead inside....I love it!

  • @deathGaurdian erm...

  • I love portishead! Great song!

  • This is simply just too good.

  • This is simply just to good.

  • Holy S**t. they destroy the world when they are live!

  • I could be mistaken but experience learned me that the Blackness in Beth here eyes and the way she gazes like she is staring into outer space. Is accomplished only in 1 way and that is by taking mind altering drugs(if i have to gues,Beth strikes me as a speed kind of woman)yther way i'm confinced that she is under the influence here.I have seen myself staring into the bathroom mirror like that enough to reccognise that typpical gaze;)But again i could b mistaken although unlightly:P:P

  • @rabuu2 seems to me that you were the one on some type of mind-altering drug when you typed and posted your comment. i could be mistaken, but it is unlikely.

  • @rabuu2 how is Beth a 'speed type of woman'? If I had to guess her drug of choice, I'd go straight for heroin...not implying she's on it here. I think the gaze you've noticed here can be attributed to a combination of 3 things:

    1. a genuine state of deep sorrow

    2. the blackness of her eyes contrasted by the pale skin and bright hair

    3. the fact you want her to be on something you're on

  • @StavroginNikolai She did speak of "take a ride, have a shot now" in Sour Times... Dont really know much about drugs but I know that a "shot" is usually heroin..

  • @Edwiness true

  • @Edwiness So everybody who uses the word "shot" is on heroin then?

  • @RainbowLegs88 Yes. That's exactly what I meant.

  • @Edwiness Okay. I just needed to clarify that that's what you meant...

  • oh mi dios!!!! queeee buena versión!!!!!!!!! está cn madre!!! como toda su música!

    aguante Gibbons!

  • so good :)

  • so much in love right now.

  • if you ever read this i love your music its a true inspiration to me here in shiprock,NM.

  • Listen to her diction. The clarity, the artistry. Wow! Betcha' can't sing this!

  • son grandiosos...

  • Yet again another brillant live performance Beth's voice is so amazing. Such great music in the 90's compared to the crap we listen to now a days. I wish more people from my generation would listen to real music like this and trully apriciate it. Long live Portishead <3

    it sounds even better live...omg

  • very good show

  • What is the sample that starts at 3.34 and carries on 'til the end? Bells? Guitar ? Synth ? It's great and complements the song so well. Any ideas?!

  • Ultra-coolness!

  • Despair, perfectly expressed.

  • Wow!

Beth's that kinda girl that looks like she's enjoying a cigarette even when she can't...LOVE IT!

(It's hard to explain...but if you understand what I'm saying, you can see it!)

  • how is the sampled song called ??

  • woww what a voice... particularly one of my favorites... enjoy 3:35 to the end... my god

  • Ah, 1994 and a Bristol band coming to fame. I live there then. The problem is that I never once heard about them at the time. I was more into drinking whiskey and climbing that hill above Saltford, Bristol. If only I knew about them at the time. I could have got pissed on whiskey, climbed that hill and listened to Portishead at the same time.

  • Great - even more atmospheric, with more ambient background sounds than the album version. Very unique music.

  • sexiest woman in the entire music industry

    beyond kewl

  • couldnt agree more

  • @callicolady

i have a crash on Beth, i swear she's so intense and talented!

  • I never knew this video existed! Thank you!

  • amazing voice

  • pure poetry....man i wish the good times could last...."for whom it is reserved"...

  • Brings back such good memories of the mid 90s. Sad to say that since people nowadays listen to such crap, if Portishead debuted now they probably wouldn't get as much love. Thanks for posting this!!

  • Increible este video y la voz de Beth es hermosa, simplemente enigmatico!!!!!!!!

  • goodness...

  • Beth Gibbons has the darkest eyes i've ever seen.

  • genial wn!

  • Awesome!! This is one of my favorites from them. All of their songs are great!! Beth is just Amazing.
