LOL the only cowards i saw were the stupid sheep yelling and booing. In Europe or Africa they fight back whenever they are met with violence from the police. Even the British and Canadians get physical when the cops escalates the force
critical mass...............i was wrong.......nothing but trouble makers a cause is a good thing but what does ......mouthing off to police...harassing motorists and acting like children.benefit the cause........i am ashamed to even know any of you...............grow up...............IDIOTS
In Fort Oglethorpe GA, I was terrorized by the police chief. Why, for ride my bicycle following the GA code on a state of Georgia bicycle route. I moved to Minneapolis because of the bicycle culture. That was my first critical mass, and it made me feel as if I were back being terrorized by the police chief. Also, the 07-08 winter, I rode my bicycle to and from work, even in -20F.
Summary of the first critical mass in St Petersburg, Florida: We left from a central park, rode around found out that cops were waiting for us at that park, went to the local bike shop and GOT AMBUSHED FROM ALL DIRECTIONS! We didn't have enough people to fight it like they did. God I miss Minneapolis
Don't give up my friend, it is your constitutional right to peaceably assemble and petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Break out the video cameras and film, and get your videos up here on youtube, keep promoting your rides and you will have so many riders that can't arrest you all.
Learn how to bike by the laws of Minnesota. If I ever hit one of you bikers that bike like that by accident, I will sue you in the court of law for damages to my car and my insurance deductible. I will assist you medically and get you help, but I will call you stupid the whole time I am helping you out.
EDIT: to my comment below...as I re-read it I wrote I was a police officer that was supposed to read "as an aspiring police officer." Im sick my apologies.
This is ridiculous. It wasnt police brutality and they werent attacking you. As a police officer I know that these men and women work to protect and serve. They were just trying to do their jobs and all these people did was make it increasingly difficult for that to happen. I am a biker too, but next time try to consider what its like to be in that officers shoes.
You will discover that every other time has been peaceful and productive and that this was brought on by the police and the only reason why bicyclists had joined together on the sidewalks was to protect each other from violent police officers who wanted to oppress freedom of thought and activism.
Instead of thinking that you know what your talking about by seeing this short clip, go and actually research what happened before you decide to join sides with the police brutality.
For those of you calling us "hippies" and "idiots" go educate yourselves. This is about advocating for respect and safety for bicyclist in a positive manner. There are all kinds of people who participate, not just hippies, due to the fact that self righteous vehicle owners tend to intimidate people on their bikes when they bike alone.
Here's some info. from the CM site, "Some CM riders try to tie up traffic as much as possible and be otherwise confrontational with motorists. Such riders are missing the point about Critical Mass. CM is a celebration of cycling, not a war against motorists. CM is about asserting our right to the road, not denying others their right to the road. Those who want to play juvenile games are encouraged to stay at home instead." If you want to be treat fairly don't be an ass yourself.
phlarneyman, thats not comparable. pickups are not discriminated against or vulnerable. thats like comparing gay rights activists to straight rights activists. there's no pride in being the majority. I was a rider who got bleach gassed indiscriminately, but there were innocent pedestrian on-lookers who got hit too. there's no argument against the fact that the police over reacted. I watched first hand as they lost their cool. public servants need a little more discipline.
Empathize that you are sitting on your bike at a 4 way stop sign and 200 rednecks in pickups go blowing by to prove their point. You suddenly feel for their cause, right?
I likely bike more than you do and hate cars more than most, but you critical mass types give the wingnuts some very good ammo.
You right Ichhassebugs, its actually the same thing...when i get pulled over for speeding, 150 people pile out of my truck and surround the cop chanting at him....idiot
I was the kid who got maced. You can't see, but they smacked around the kid they arrested and wouldn't tell him what he was being charged with. The police wanted to start a riot straight off, they had an entire precinct follow us and a helicopter on scene before our ride even started.. suspicious, huh?

Not so much anymore, sadly. There is a major roadie movement happening in the local scene to where nobody wants to assert their rights.
Kind of like that MSI album: You'll rebel to anything (as long as it isn't challenging)

Every single one of these riders has broken 100 traffic laws on every one of their rides. Can't blame the police for finally responding.
