Right you are, XML - that's the title from the Trio's album "New Frontier. "But the source is usually referred to as "Get Along (or "Git Along") Little Dogies" - it was published under that title in the Lomax 1947 "Folk Songs of North America." Here on YT, most of the other versions use the "Get Along" title, so to get this into the search pattern I've chosen to use the more common name.

The show Animaniacs did a brilliant parody of this song about the Portuguese mariner Magellan's ill-fated voyage to the East Indies.

Excellent post! I even like your choice of Remington paintings for your theme. I have a special fondness for his work.

Right-o - but as the notes say, the word is of course "dogies," pronounced "doe-gees" and derived from "dough-guts" - not from little canines. :)

@CompVid101 Haha! So true. The amount of times I've had to explain that to people. As in, ''keep them dogies rollin', Rawhide''.

@Rogermiler - maybe if we both keep at it long enough, people will get the point. You have a great SN, BTW.

The original title is Dogie's Lament. Still a good ballad by the Trio.
