  • If you really think dressage is bad, you should see western riding. This is nothing compared to that..

  • @Boese23 I really wish you wouldn't basely judge the entire community of western riders based on what you have seen some people do. I know that all dressage riders do not practice rollkur or treat their horses as extremely as some of these in the video have demonstrated, so I could only hope you would be sensible enough to not stereotype an entire discipline on what you have seen SOME people do.

  • What arrogant vanity to believe that this is good for the horse, it's all about the human, no thoughts for the horse's comfort or natural movement.

  • The day I strive to do this to my horse is the day I stop riding.

  • @Glykyrrhiza So please stop..you are never gone ride like this!!

  • auch.... try to put your head back like that! It fucking hurts!! Try to have a bit in your mouth and pull hard as possible, not nice huh?

Sad that we cant see it we think it's beautiful but this should be a crime i think! Pour little animal...

  • very nice horses! and how soft and swinging their backs are. i have never seen such swinging backs and light hoofes with horses that were ridden without any rein contact.

  • @1010nicole1010 Is that sarcasm?

  • @Glykyrrhiza no sarcasm. you can see the horsebacks swinging. i have never seen a horse showing passage that was ridden with long reins. because long reins mean short back and a short back is a sore back. think about this before judging other riders. but i agree, that some of the horses were overflexed which i don't like.

  • kinky !!

  • ... And the best thing of all is, they will all say- "i am against animal abuse"... But exactly what are they doing here... Abusing... Assholes!!!!!

  • non of these horses have a real happy life!!!! this shit is not fun for horses!

  • Let me tell you exactly what you are. A dipshit abuser.

  • selfish, cruel, abusers.

  • this is horrible

  • I don't really like to comment on these kinds of threads because rarely are they productive.

In a normal schooling routine I see no reason to ever use the leg or hand in forceful crude ways. This kind of bad horsemanship is seen in ALL sports by 'skilled' horsemen who can do better. Submission is part of schooling, but at what cost.

RE extreme positioning - how long is the horse in it? I can do positions in yoga that are fairly 'unnatural' but I don't drill one pose for an entire session.

  • in addition to my last post... these horses are not under this everyday all day. there pampered after an hour of hard work ... im not in any way saying LDR is good and should be used by all meens it shouldnt!! but people watching these videos are probably thingking all dressage riders in top competition do this which is FALSE!! The horses dont like this method but... in addition there not under going it long and after there rewarded for it. i DO NOT USE LDR and it should be banned but it wont.

  • source of this idea- is the bad riders that are all well known..lots of people know that anky van grusen uses rollkur. and beginners may think that is what dressage is cause thats all theyve heard of. Lots of people DONT know that Blue Hors Matine was the greatest dressage horse ever!! Or who scored the highest score in the olympics last year. Nope- all you hear about is who used rollkur in the warm up arena. And thats all beginners are interested in. The bad stuff! i agree LDR is a bad method

  • OH MY GOD! can you epona peopl be happy with some form of riding? Dressage is WORSE than reining any day!

  • @ReinerJolee12Talon IDIOT. Dressage is NOT worse than Reining, and reining is NOT worse then dressage! Both are bad when ridden forcefully through the hands- both reining and dressage movements are done naturally by horses in pastures & paddocks. The problem here is not the discipline, it is the training and riding methods that make everyone look bad.

  • @ReinerJolee12Talon No, it truly isn't. They both have their fair share of evils, to compare them is ignorant at best.

  • I have one thing to say about your description. If a horse was not ready mentally and physically it would not be in that level of competition. I see harsher hands in lower level dressage then I do here AND harsher bits. I know a rider who HACKS in a wire bit. Please choose your words a tad bit more careful. This video is very good though and that was the sole thing I had to say. Your videos make me think twice about how I handle my own horses

  • You ignorant people can say all you want, but there is NOTHING that can justify animal cruelty. And it doesn't MATTER if rollkür is "much less" of a cruelty than much of the abuse towards animals - all abuse must end!

Either you can sit on your ugly asses and say "well, things could be worse" and do nothing, or you could see the pain in these horses eyes and do all you can for them to live the life they deserve.

  • these beautiful creatures are victims of our abnormal ambition. it got nothing to do with classic equitation anymore.

  • Wieso kann man diese ekelhaften Tierquäler nicht zur Recchenschaft ziehen!!???

Mir tut das im Herzen so weh!

    Vollidioten echt!!!!!!

  • I think after reading their books you might disagree with your statement that these horses are mentally and physically ok. I used to look at dressage the same way you are now and therefore am not criticizing you. I understand that everyone is on their own journey and needs to find out what works for them best. I simply no longer agree with the way of riding/training shown in the video. Best of luck in finding your own dressage path

  • The thing I don't understand is if the horses hate this so much (which I'm not disagreeing, constant pressure on my mouth wouldn't feel so good either) is that I would assume a 1200 pound animal could easily buck the rider off? In wild horse races and mustangs brought in, that's what they do when they are about to be broken. Why don't dressage horses like these do the same if it's so painful for them? (again, not disagreeing)

  • @ronanracer because horses try hard to please people and they are going to chose the easy way out of everything; in this case the only thing the horse can really do is curl up under itself and try because if it doesn't the side reins go on, the whip gets applied, the spurs get bigger, the noseband gets tighter, the bit gets harsher. If horses actually liked what you were doing they wouldn't need all those training tools to keep them in a frame and moving forward and correctly.

  • @ronanracer A horse is naturally an animal of prey, they cannot show any weakness as this would make them more vulnerable to predators. Bear in mind a dressage horse has been accustomed to the weight of the rider and is being held in the position by the curb and the spurs of the rider. A wild horse bucks due to not being accustomed to the weight, most of the time it associates it with that of a predator due to not being gradually brought into accepting it.

  • @ronanracer To buck, or rear, a horse needs control of its head. The horse tosses his head down fo a buck and kicks his heels up, and for a rear he throws his head up and tips back.

  • ONE MORE POINT: Horse are NOT meant to be pets! First of all they were bred to carry us and plow, if we didn't ride horses they would all be killed for meat. I'm sorry but they have a job, I love my horses, but it weren't for this sport, they would never be alive, one hour of work for 20+ years of love and getting taken care of? They can live...

  • I see a few times where the horse curls, but that can be a form of avasion, really theres only one person in that ring using rollkur.....

  • @MetalSiicken It's not just the rollkur that's the problem. It's the harsh hands on the curb, it's the relentless kicking with the spurs, it's the horrible pulling on the horse's most sensitive part of the mouth (the tonge and the bars), it's the fact that people are CLUELESS about what they are looking at. These horses are abused, their gaits are totally false and their riders are unaware and unwilling to see what they are doing. This is no way to ride a horse. Where's the lightness and ease?!

  • @coucouper1 Thats not being shown....I guess I'm abussive to my horse..thats why he nickers at me and trots up to me in the pasture?

  • @MetalSiicken umm no. I assume you aren't training a twisted passage on a horse that is mentally and physically incapable of handling it, however, as a result of your comment I will assume that you've never watched people like Olivero, Karl, Baucher (though I don't agree with everything this one is up to), General Hotte etc.

  • @coucouper1 I don't do a twisted passage, but a passage and all of these movements shown, and I could have never watched baucher because he is dead. these horses seem perfectly capable of handling upper level dressage movements to me..

  • @MetalSiicken I have to agree with what you're saying, they train for 1 hour a day and the rest of their time is spent being pampered. And yeah I completely agree with what you said about horses having a job! A lot of horses to get traded for meat and that's horrible to think about but they're still just animals like deer and cattle etc. I think people need to stop picking holes at the pros who have been riding alot longer than probably anyone here!

  • some of that is just a dressage fame...

  • yes your horse may look fancy, but your abusing the trust the horse has in you.

  • Yes your horse looks fancy, but would you do this to your child? Horses are meant to be pets, loved and cared for, if i had to do this most days i would surely be insane.

  • @kimberleyjaneanne Horse are NOT meant to be pets! First of all they were bred to carry us and plow, if we didn't ride horses they would all be killed for meat. I'm sorry but they have a job, I love my horses, but it weren't for this sport, they would never be alive.

  • sick!!!!!!! this is not dressage, its animal cruelty...

  • Oh mein Gott!!!!

  • They obviously pushed beyond their physical and mental capacity or they wouldn't be able to do it! They are still horses and if they really disliked it, they would fight against it. A horse is alot stronger than a spur or double bridle and would put up a hell of a fight if it was hurting or found it too uncomfortable, the horse is a simple creature, if it doesnt mind what you are asking it to do then it will happily do it but if it doesnt want to then it will fight until the annoyance has gone.

  • @HuckleberryKae You should seriously read something about horse behaviour.

  • @HuckleberryKae You are insane. Horses clearly do not enjoy having their noses pulled into their chests. It is completely unatural nevermind abusive.

  • @HuckleberryKae You are insane. Horses clearly do not enjoy having their noses pulled into their chests. It is completely unatural nevermind abusive.

  • @pattywagon2015 horses achieve these maneuvers naturally in the wild. i've seen a filly accomplish a half pass in the pasture before she was ever trained. if a horse wasn't in frame or "had his nose to his chest and his hindquarters under him" it would actually suffer injury from a hollow form. the training comes from teaching the horse to carry the rider and the rider to aid the horse. spurs should be used as an extension of the riders leg. i dont't agree with the rollkur or gourge methods.

  • to understand my meaning, view the video : The Rollkur Explained

  • @HuckleberryKae but thats why horses rae so much better than us. they put up with it FOR us because they are such gentle creatures.

  • @Horses4ever8 so true!

  • Ugh. I would NOT want to be her horse. Why don't we put a bridle in her mouth and pull on the reins and see how she likes it?

  • Rollkr has to stop.

  • While there are "Champions" who win thanks to THIS, there will ALWAYS be thousands of others copying them every day on their backyard and thinking that THIS is the "TRUE" way of champions...

  • BRAVO Epona! Finally one media with guts. Perhaps I will live to see a change in the equestrian world after all. Epona, please continue, the train must not be stopped. Do, what media should have been doing all along.

  • aww..this is so sad :( poor horses.

  • I agree, its not a good method of getting what they want out of the horse. Short cuts never work as well as classic training. But did any of you spoiled, self absorbed brats ever think that there are millions of children, dogs, and women out there who would gladly trade thier cruel and inhuman worlds for a pampered life with a bit of overflexation? That the $ spent to buy & keep this horse could feed a whole country or help so many!Or is it easier to ignore & argue about this from your comfort ?

  • Is there anything in writing anywhere that forbids this? I ask, as I am wondering if an actual charge of cruelty (or whatever) could be laid? Otherwise, it is in the best interest of the others to continue ignoring, or they could hurt their own chances...CYA

  • This video looks like it was filmed in Herning Denmark during the stalion selection for Danish Warmblood.

  • Thank you for sharing, with these videos more and more people learn to see what is good riding and how do we want to treat our horses. /Stina

  • Wow, those people are stupid. What is going on with the equine world, my Mum who knows nothing about horses even said it looks wrong!

  • Yeah, "my Mum who knows nothing about horses".

Not half of the people on here have even ridden a horse, or even considered having talent, its just to much fun poking at people who have talent and work in a sport you all can't even wrap your tiny brains around.

    Sheeple.

  • wow, so you are stupid enough to see that this is okay? If there so talented why does he have a pair of draw reins attached to the horse..... If he was so talented he wouldn't need them- in fact nobody should even use them.

    Dick

  • I did not see any draw reins on any of the horses, if what your refering to is the double bridle, which uses both the curb and the snaffle combined to enhance collection and make a horse some what softer to the hand.

  • This I think also should be used in moderation or just soft but with contact. I don't know that I would ever use hyperflexion but I'm certainly not going to nag people who have been riding for longer than I, and who are riding at a higher level than I because I am not in that position.

  • As for this being cruelty? I've seen horses beat and jerked and whipped around to the point of having a heart attack and dying, and this does not come close to putting the horse in pain, these horses are in peek condition and a little uncomfortability is not going to kill them. As soon as there done with this the horses go get pampered and spoiled because there worth more than most peoples houses.

  • I have to agree.

I don't see videos from these master critics.

They went on a Donky ride once and now they know everything about hyperfexion.

  • @Gabbagail1 It makes me laugh that you say "Sheeple" when hyperflexion is probably almost one of the most prolific training techniques used in Europe and, however it is ignorantly so, all over the world. People who use it just because their trainer said so or because certain riders with "talent" who work in the sport do it and do it without questioning why.

At least Lassie actually did her research and made her mind up about why she doesnt like it based on a lot of reading and..

  • @Gabbagail1 observation. As opposed to deciding she simply doesnt have an opinion or thinks its fine just because these people have more "talent" and work in the sport that "you all cant even wrap your tiny brains around".

What a small minded comment. Can people not have an opnion simply because they have only observed and not been intimately involved in it? I spent some time observing the machine that i the european sport horse industry and its not what I would call art. Its business..

  • @Gabbagail1 its money and horses are the vehicle these people require to survive and flourish in a monetary sense. Its HUGE.

However, as you will no doubt point out, thats just my opnion and what do I know because I dont work in the sport and cant wrap my tiny brain around it?

People seeing something that they have the audacity to question, taking it upon themselves to research it and observe it and come to their own conclusion is what I would call taking the initiative. As opposed..

  • @Gabbagail1 to copying some one and following blindly because the "good riders" do it.

    As opposed to being Sheeple.

  • these horses are so tallented! I am so sorry for them... they do not deserve riders and training methods like this.. so many kilos in their mouths.. :((

  • Why cant you name and shame these riders in the vid, and name and shame the judges who mark them up . For gods sake !!! get this cruelty banned

  • five riders, and all five hyperflexe their horses to breaking point. this brain desease seems to be spreading.

the rider in the beige shirt was hurting the horse so badly, that even outsiders could tell it's wrong doing.

dear eponatv, keep up the fight!!!
