I think that lightnings doesn't have many amperes, like 30.000~300.000... I think It is less than 1A.. and I think this voltage is about 100.000.000 MegaVolts or more!!
Scientific study shows lightning bolts can travel at 360,000 MPH, flashing at 11,000,000th of a second.......find me something man made to ever be capable of that speed!! :-)
i was in the grand country inn in branson on the same night that happend altho i didnt know it was storming till i woke up the next morning i couldent even hear that yet i should have rofl :)
Dude dont tell me that was a fire cracker....! I used to be scared of thunder and it still gives me the hybajeebes or however you spell it. But once there was this house across the street from mine, And it got hit by a STRONG bolt of lightning. Strangly the fire didnt react untill the morning but everyone was OK. they had to take down the house.
I lived in St. Louis MO for a couple of years, and live in Florida now. While Missouri doesn't get as many intense, loud thunderstorms like FL, it does have a few a year, where the lightning strikes very close, and the sound is enough to break windows.
I just had one of these experiences last night! went up to my friends house during a storm(wasn't storming where I was) like 2 mins after I got there a big tree 20 feet from his house got struck, all I saw was red and orange and I saw some wood go flying! Must have blown 1/5 of the trunk away there was 4-12 foot peices (logs) of wood all over the place. It definitely was INTENSE!
one time i was up during a sstorm when lightening hit the house across the street from mine, i went fly back because i just freaked out, and hit my head on the table, if only i had my cell phone or camera or something to record it, it was loud as hell!
@marsradio i couldnt but one time during a thunderstorm lightning strick the steel roof of my school i saw falsh and hreard bang in same second and, SON OF A BLIZZARD it was loud and i created a fear of lightning. i came over it and now i video tape lightning, thunder, and my friends!
Because it instantly heats the air right around it to like 50,000 degrees, and then that air cools down just as quickly. That causes a shockwave we hear as thunder.
Lightning struck my porch when I was little, we were in the living room watching TV and I saw it hit, big loud cracking noise you hear in this film only WAAAY louder. I sceamed and shoved my head under my blanket. Wasn't fun...
It was on April 5th, 2006. I'm about 3 miles east of downtown Branson and the Branson Landing. We've had a few other big storms since then, but, this year has been a big DUD so far. Pretty disappointing!

it looks like an explosion on the upper middle of the 2nd lightning..... if it was, wat was it?? a bird??
globalcentral1 4 years ago
Don't think it was an explosion. If you freeze it at the right spot, you can see that the bolt just did a "curly-q" for lack of a better description.

ribbon lightning, it overlaps itself in a loop

I wouldn't hang around with a video camera in the middle of a storm... with no lightning rods around, a flashlight is enough to get you fried.

I love how when lightning strikes it makes a loud boom, but how does it make such a loud sound?
alphashot007 4 years ago
Because it instantly heats the air right around it to like 50,000 degrees, and then that air cools down just as quickly. That causes a shockwave we hear as thunder.
marsradio 4 years ago
because the lightning breaks the speed of sound , so it breaks a hole in the airpressure and the air pressure close it withe a kaboom
