@blozier2006 There was a poster here on YouTube named EONSFTFAN, and they uploaded that very opening w/ McCullough announcing. Unfortunately, they took it down b/c others were ripping it and uploading videos from his account onto their own.
GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "My mother, the late Ruth May of Winchester, Ky never missed an episode of ATWT! I fondly remember getting her and my dad tickets to see Eileen Fulton's cabaret act when she came to Orlando. My dad war recuperating from cancer surgery in 1980 when I interviewed Colleen Zenk ('Barbara') on my Orlando TV show and Colleen turned to the camera to wish Sam a speedy recovery. In 2007 Colleen was diagnosed with oral cancer. Thankfully, she is in remission."

This is the 1st ATWT opening I remember bc i was born in 1985 & it is still my fav even after comparing all the openings here on youtube....i miss both atwt & gl! :(
This was the "space age" ATWT opening. though it sounded silly at the time, I loved it, and now that it's 20 yrs old, I MISS th excellent show it was with. Oh, how sad....
i watched the last ATWT last friday. still crying. i hope the idiot that pulled the plug on ATWT finds his/her ass on the unemployment line very soon!
Ok, so I liked this intro too. lol. in fact, as a typical Teenager without a car. i.e. Freshman, Sophmore... This is what I cut class for back in Michigan. I used to listen to the Cult during the commercials. lol. Ah, but then my car came. Girls, came and that was all she wrote. Now, I'm a just hot shot Venture capitalist in Southern California. who would have figured?
When I was growing up Id always hear the show coming on and sometimes sit and watch, but since I was 18 Id been watching the show more. I havent missed hardly and episode since the new Lily came in, so I been into it for a while now. ATWT and Guiding Light were alot more realistic like real life situations they showed, which is why I like it so much. Y&R and B&B are not as realistic, more like a fantasy world of clothes, jewel, and models I dont care for. Ill miss ATWT D:
@redneon06 I agree with you. Even though I didn't watch them much in the last few years they were better than Y&R and B&B. Now the only one left that I watch is Y&R on soapnet. For awhile I watched AMC (it came on after Y&R) that show is worse than B&B. Its sad that ATWT and GL are gone and there are soaps that I think are inferiorare still on. Just my opinion.
@hazyeyes44 Thank you for saying it so I don't have to. When this show strayed to far away from the vets and families that WERE this show and replaced them with boring 18 year olds, the viewers left by the droves, and eventually the show was cancelled also. I never could understand why/how the producers couldn't see this and do an about face. It was always so obvious to us long term viewers.
As The World Turns is going off the air? Please tell me I misread these comments, it's bad enough they took Guiding Light off, but it needed to be, but ATWT's is doing great, great story lines, what's up?
bring back martha byrne to finish off the run. come on chris goutman tell your headwriters david and jean to end the show with some class storytelling. give helen wagner some air time and lisa maybe bring back john to end up with lucinda do something classy like use some of the old openings to finish out the series swap them every month
@REDLAKEFALLS1: Amen, you tell them Martha Byrne's talent was completely wasted on General Hospital the year. They should change the opening to the one they had in 1999 with the spinning globe or the one in 1997 cause a classic opening like that never dies...other characters need to come back are Tom Wiggin(Kirk Anderson, he stole the show every scene with Lucinda) Scott Bryce(original Craig), Lisa Brown(Iva Snyder), Kristina Sisco(Abigail), Mary Beth Evans(Sierra), Peyton List(Lucy), etc.
I'm with you there Chicago10281, I've watched the show since February 1997, I've seen Jack, Molly, Jake McKinnon first appear, (I seen Shawn Christian as the original Mike Kasnoff, Connor Walsh, etc. Martha Byrne shouldn't have left, also Scott Bryce(the best Craig), Lisa Brown(Iva) I liked Rose D'Angelo killing her off was a mistake the same with Jake McKinnon, Brad Snyder. Also I loved crazy Julia Lindsey(classic). I don't know why CBS has to cancel a great show like ATWT.
It's all about ratings! Not too many people watch the show because they work or have other things to do! This show is an institution since 1956 and is one of the best! Did you ever watch the other CBS P&G cancelled soap "Guiding Light"?
Yea so true it's all about the ratings, and I did watch Guiding Light from 2003-2006, I lost interest when Danny, Michelle, Ed Bauer left in that time period, replacing Laura Wright with Nicole Forester(gag me) and killing off Ross Marler was enough for me to tune out, then the crappy camera work started by having a realistic Springfield, when the characters came back I thought the viewers would to, and not that many people watched the final episode, it was all for nothing in bringing them back.
@NEXTGENSKYN, I'm with you there I've been watching it since 1997, and seen some of the best moments, the Spa in Switzerland, Barbara being burned beyond belief in 2001(great moment for Colleen Zenk Pinter, who was blown away literally by the show's cancellation)
Aaahh yes, too difficult to believe that As The World Turns is going to be cancelled. I stopped watching in 1981. But still . . . if Procter & Gamble wants to make money, then release in their vaults every remaining episode, well the ones that weren't erased, of every surviving soap episode that's available on DVD. They will make bank. Or, air all available episodes as repeats. Re-air The Edge Of Night, Guiding Light, Another World, Search For Tomorrow.
Well, as of next September the world officially stops turning..i wish CBS would bring back The Edge Of Night in it's place as both soaps did premiere on the same day in 1956.
I feel that daytime soap operas are on life support now. We've had Guiding Light go off the air this year, Passions in 2007, rumors of Days Of Our Lives being cancelled for years now. Hopefully CBS will replace it with more game shows! (Let's Make A Deal replaced Guiding Light, for instance.)
I hope before ATWT is off the air CBS should bring back the classic game show Truth or Consequences. I hate to see As the World Turns go, RIP Procter and Gamble Productions.
Well, the ABC soaps, The Young and the Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful don't need to worry; they're all doing very, very well in the ratings with CBS being #1 in daytime for 20 years now.
it looks like we didn't see it coming, but here it is. we lost the guiding light, and now we are going to lose as the world turns. to me, it's like i've lost a best friend on television, even though i'm 27 years old.
I know it's a crock of shit, but CBS just made the announcement today. Let's just hope Helen Wagner makes it to the final episode. Doug Marland's death caused the downfall. I'm sorry it had to be that way, but that is CBS fault.
It's a shame As The World Turns is getting canceled. That's right, I just heard. It is apparently having it's final episode in September 2010. I guess with Helen Wagner and the other actors getting too old and fewer viewers, it's time to say goodbye. I can't believe it.
i kind of wonder; why are soaps like As The World Turns and Guiding Light getting off air when Y&R and B&B are doing so well. Does it have to do with the story or cast?
This was the opening when I first started watching ATWT as a kid, it always gave me chills with the organ music and globe spinning. It's still one of my favorite openings.
I 100% agree. This was the best opening with that cosmic sound and the world spinning. If I was in charge of the show, bringing this back would be the first thing I would do!
While Kirk Anderson was a character on ATWT his real-life wedding announcement appeared in the Washington Post because his mother lived nearby in Alexandria, VA. A year or two later after Easter Sunday Mass in Old Town Alexandria, I noticed a very tall man pushing a baby in a stroller. I did a double-take when I realized it was Kirk Anderson! My husband was driving and said we should leave him alone on a holiday and wouldn't drive over to him so I missed my chance to meet an ATWT actor.
I still remember the "Organ Prelude" to "As The World Turns". "Procter & Gamble" benefited from the Original Version of "As The World Turns". Who played that "Organ Music" to this show?
I remember Dan Region! Didn't he 'invite us to tune in tomorrow', or Monday, for another "full hour, of As The World Turns"? Hearing it, now, I do like this opening. At the time, however, I thought it was sad/lame/ridiculous/boring! HA
God, I can remember when my grandma would watch this and this opening. That's my favorite, brings back soooo many memories. Now I noticked they changed the opening again, saw it today. Ah, well.
Hey, my grandma used to watch this too! lol. This was like the only intro I really ever saw because she died in 1992 when I was 4 yet I still remember it, but for some reason I don't remember the song being like that. I thought the song was slower but then again I was only 4.
I JUST joined YouTube and am boo-hooing over all of the memories that are coming back to me. I am an "old-timer" and remember the early 60's when my Grandmother and my Mom used to watch it. Of course, it was in black and white, with just the earth spinning around in one place. Has anyone come across the original intro?... This intro is lovely; kindof sounds like the "Edge of Night" later intro?...
The opening from 1981-93. It was a daily staple to see the show start and then have the world spinning into space with that cosmic sound. It is something that was very identifiable with the show. Y&R has kept the same theme from day one and is the #1 show. Other soaps should take note and not keep changing them.
I agree. All the soaps intros seems to be cookie cutter versions of each other. Back then every soap had their own unique opening. I just wish Y&R would tease the viewers with the piano playing (Nadia's theme) right before they get to the opening credits - they don't do that at all anymore.
I can see why at least ONE person on here (haha)wouldn't care for this cut of the lovely 1981-93 opening. This was after P&G decided to stop running sponsor clips in their intros, and I believe ATWT was the last to dispense with them. This condensed version of the the intro ran only less than a year before the new opening visuals with "Jelinda's Theme" debuted on 2/3/93.
LOL I liked them both, don't get me wrong. I just thought it was unique (hey I was 5 at the time) where I could tell the difference bewteen a sponsored eppy and non-sponsored one. They used the short version from 1990-1992. In late 1992, ATWT started using the full theme everyday w/ sponsors until "Jelinda's Theme" made its debut in February of 1993. I guess they wanted to show the whole theme until the new theme debuted.
That's not the reason. P&G was phasing out sponsor plugs during the title sequences, saving them for after the first segment. ATWT was the last of the P&G soaps to do this.
@VaultMasterDBT Oh, no. I know that part. I meant that for a short time in 1992, roughly during the summer of that year, the show was using the whole sponsored version every day until mid-fall. A similar effect was used in 1997, 1998, and 1999 when both ATWT/GL went through brief periods where the episodes were sponsored daily w/o any non-sponsored tags. Just some trivia. Can you tell I am bored? LoL
Memories...wow...I remember hearing this being home from school sick. I miss this as much as I miss my good Guiding Light openings. This theme started in the mid-80s I think...wow.
What episode is this taken from ?, It's somewhere in the 80s or 90s

@VaultMasterDBT Oh, no. I know that part. I meant that for a short time in 1992, roughly during the summer of that year, the show was using the whole sponsored version every day until mid-fall. A similar effect was used in 1997, 1998, and 1999 when both ATWT/GL went through brief periods where the episodes were sponsored daily w/o any non-sponsored tags. Just some trivia. Can you tell I am bored? LoL

Yeah, I'd like to see more recent intros with all the different head shots. Including some that are rarely shown now.

Memories...wow...I remember hearing this being home from school sick. I miss this as much as I miss my good Guiding Light openings. This theme started in the mid-80s I think...wow.
