  • Time to search for hmercutio's comment...

  • Respect to Pete but Jason Williams best passer ever

  • The newer NBA fans nowadays are ignorant.

  • I use to watch pistol's halftime HORSE games, man, all I did was practice no look passes.

  • @44thepistol It looks awesome do you think a little layup is cooler then someone shattering and making allot of noise outta the backboar

  • This is the gayest highlight real i've ever seen

  • TRASH

  • this isnt his best stuff

  • Maravich has had much better plays, but this top 10 would kick the ass of LeBum's career top 10 anytime...

  • Like Isiah Thomas said, the greatest showman in NBA history: "Pistol Pete" Maravich.

  • What was so special about number 10? Just a normal contested layup you see several times during an nba game.

  • @peZt93 the special thing about number ten is being a NORMAL lay-up. its rare to see lay ups like that in the NBA this days. todays game is like revolving on flashy dunks, dunks and dunks.

  • Steve Nash does all this almost every night.

  • @DCWkorea he never would have thought of it if it werent for this guy though. when maravich was doing it, no one ever played like that at the time.

  • @DCWkorea Pistol Pete pioneered every night. Easy to be a sheep...Baaahh.

  • While Rubio is fun to watch he is more like a tribute band of Pete. And that is not a bad thing necessarily. But Rubio will never be the scorer that Pete Maravich was, 44.2 points a game for his college career (before the 3 point shot) and 68 points in an NBA game in 1977. Pete's skills are not going to be duplicated any time soon by anybody. But it is interesting to watch them try.

  • @bent139 of course rubio will not be the scorer like pete did in the college cuz rubio is in the nba now. not in college. and rubio still has some improvements needed to do.

  • @44thepistol because dunks are way cooler looking then a little lay-up they don't shatter the backboard =D

  • @Slyush naahh, dunks? i think its overrated man. you dont have to shatter the board just to be cool you know?.

  • @44thepistol Nothing in Rubio's background says he will ever be much of a scorer. Of course as he comes from a club system he has no college background but he didn't even break double digits in scoring in Europe last year.

  • Thumbs up if you came here to compare Pete with Ricky Rubio!

  • @Gonzalodfr What about a young Jason Williams???????

  • I've seen better plays in the ymca.

  • @hmercutio I bet you have- and I'm sure they were against NBA players too- and probably in the early 1960's before anyone else had seen those plays

  • WOW i didn't know this guy ( Im not a big big fan of the sport I don't follow it that much) but he was AMAZING

  • So funny how ppl thought hakeem olajuwon originated the dream shake when pete did the same move at #7

  • meaning, I've seen better plays from pistol and those are kinda good.

  • I've seen better plays, but still kinda good.

  • clyde the glide drexler was a ridiculous passer too, people forget about him

  • Wasn't #9 goaltending?

  • @LilDeal113 No it was just an airball

  • Back when basketball was basketball

  • Now I see where larry bird got his passing techniques from

  • @Bigl30001 and ricky rubio?

  • @coreyagraph how can you even compare larry legend's passing to some ricky rubio...

rubio is ok, but he's far from being in larry's category...

  • @jingeshan24

I mean Larry as a total player is far and away better than Rubio but Rubio does have awesome passing ability, still, not really comparable to Larry Legend's, just think he deserves some credit

  • #7 the dream shake before the dream was around?

  • this is stupid these arent any of his top plays besides number 2

  • #8 seriously looked like the ball teleported. Geaux tigers!

  • Pete's underhand passes are so unique. Tell me (show me) of any others you have ever seen. His are 2/3rds to 3/4er court passes. Pete was an Original.

  • skill

  • 1:25 SICK, SICK, SICK, SICK

  • PISTOL PETE HAS MORE HANGTIME THM BIRD AND DIRK

  • THEY BETTER PUT PIDTOL PETE ON NBA JAM

  • this isn't even close to his top 10 but it was an ok vid

  • @williwo you're right he did it first so you have to give credit where credit is due

  • those underhand fast break tosses are so sick!

  • Dont mean to sound stupid but was there no 3pt line in the NCAA then?

  • He was the magic johnson of his time

  • @Fenny3076 Correction: Magic was the Pistol Pete of his time

  • pistol pete is not the best player alot of people think he is but its really larry bird look up him hes great i think hes better than pistol pete hes in the related vids

  • NBA STREET Vol.2!

  • To mrmrjld...hot dog moves were just that because Pete was so far ahead of his time. Its not his fault that the rest of the players couldnt play at his level.I guess when he scored 68 against the Knicks he was just showing off.Larry Bird couldnt keep up with Pete even to save his ass.Oh and im not one of the kids.I watched Pete play and he was every bit the best White player ever.

  • @dantless If you dont think Bird could keep up with Pistol to "save his ass"....you clearly havnt watched much of Larry Bird. Bird himself was an insanely good and clever passer. Many times pulling off Pistol Pete-type moves. The 2 played with each other for 1 year, BTW. But everybody should agree on this. They are the 2 best White players ever. Bird is the Smartest and most clever player of all time.....Pistol is the game's best passer and ball-handler. We'll leave it at that.

  • @45arther so I guess the title all time leading scorer of the ncaa means nothing right?

  • To clever player

  • Some of these are definitely awesome, but #10 was just an unremarkable left-handed layup. What gives?

  • he even used the dream shake before hakeem... :D

  • @AnotherStatsGuy; When the"Ice Man" GGervin was on the verge of losing his home, someone in the league paid it anonymously. When the Lakers acquired Goodrich that move led to that 33game winning streak and the future prototype dominating team, 2 off. high scoring pt.guards with the big center. I remember seeing Woolridge with his severe hang time stuff Olajuuan's dunk attempt. at 6'9". Thanks for mentioning these names.

  • WOW pistol did the dream shake before Hakeem the dream

  • Pete didn't invent flash, he just made it into a science.

  • who could dislike this

  • No. 2 Is Hard To. It Was Mad Quick!

  • Imagine these combos: they all happened (albeit not 4 very long) or could have happened (due to team's draft positions)

    Dr. J/Gervin

    Dr. J/ Pete

Magic/ Pete (the Jazz traded a 1979 pick that the Lakers used 4 Magic when they signed Gail Goodrich)

Any combo of Michael/Clyde/Magic/Gervin (even all 4)

    1983-Bulls pass up on Drexler

1979-Lakers/Bulls hve coin flip 4 the 1st pick 4 Magic

    Gervin's last season of 1984 w/ Bulls

Add Artis Gilmore & Orlando Woolridge 4 the Bulls & everybody else ...!

  • As a kid of the sixties I have seen prototypes of various players make an impact in the league. For example, Cousy, Maravich, West and Bird to name a few, relied on their fundamentals,god-given talent and court "savvy" but there came an added dimensional edge to the game, and it's called "hang-time". If you combine this with size, strength, quickness and skill you are able to create shots in opportunities whereas never before. We stop judging at this point and politely refer to this as our era.

  • Pistol Pete was so great, a real globetrotter. The Atlanta Hawks had a real enthusiastic home -court announcer that could really motivate the crowd. "Basket by jumpin' Joe Caldwell" or Looouuu Hudson!" Maravich had amazing stats that he amassed from his sixth-sense court awareness, anticipation, quickness, deception and of course, incomparable skill.

  • o there are two songs...anybody knows both?:)

  • please whats the name of the song..?

  • O he nasty

  • Wtf?!?! Half court behind the back bullet pass! Looooooool pete you was something else!

  • A shame it's such terrible footage. The pistol deserves better.

  • 2nd greatest white guy to ever put on a basketball uniform (after larry bird).

  • @slydawg221 what about jerry west ???

  • @9trebaby in my opinion west is 3rd.

  • @slydawg221

I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH YOU ON THAT MY FREIND.. I HAVE HIM AS THE GREATEST WHITE PLAYER TO EVER PUT ON A UNIFORM.. I KNOW THAT THE PISTOL DOESN'T HAVE THE RINGS LIKE BIRD, BUT HE WOULD MAKE BIRD LOOK LIKE A FOOL ONE ON ONE.. I PUT THE PISTOL NUMBER 2 ON THE ALL TIME BASKETBALL PLAYERS EVER.

    1A. MICHEAL JORDAN

    1B. MAGIC JOHNSON

    2. PISTOL PETE MARAVICH

  • @MrMrjld123 you dinb't know anything at all about basketball. You think Pete was the best white player ever. Freaking kids. The guy rarely even made all star teams. He had no value to a basketball team. You are actually putting him with Magic and Jordan. You actually hve him over Bird, Kareem,Russell,Wilt, and West. Oh boy..I guess some hot dog moves really impresses some people.

  • @45arther "He had no value to a basketball team. " with all due respect sir....but ANYBODY who would say something so utterly Foolish and Retarded, clearly doesnt know much about Basketball. We're talking about the BEST Ball-handler in the history of the game. PERIOD. End of story. Dont believe me? Ask John Havlicek. Ask Magic Johnson. Ask Walt Frazier. and BTW, Pistol never played on a great team like the players you mentioned. He was a one-man wrecking crew that played on shitty teams.

  • @williwo you guys keep making the ridiculous claim that he was the best ball handler ever, do you even know what that means. i don't give a crap how many times he can dribble between his legs when its not needed, what was his turnover to assist ratio? Thats determines a great ball handler. his was awful. and if he had value to a team, then prove it in the win column. how hard is this to understand.

  • @arther1045 Why the Hell would you point to his win column when he played on a shitty team during his whole career? DUH. But hey, I guess you know more about Basketball than the Great John Havlicek, who easily called Maravich the "Best ball-handler ever." Keep dreaming sir

  • @MrMrjld123 With all due respect.....theres no way I could put Magic Johnson over Larry Bird. Bird was the Smartest player to ever play the game. He had the Games Greatest IQ.

    1. Michael Jordan

    2. Larry Bird

    3A. Pistol Pete

3B Tie between Magic and Dr. J

  • @williwo No way Wilt chamberlain is number 2 he 100 in an NBA game!!!

  • @MrMrjld123 Also, Pistol IS the best ball-handler ever. He could make ANYONE look like a Fool, including Jordan. in terms of Bird, You can beat Bird, you can make him look Foolish at times...but he would just turn around and make you look like a Fool right afterwards. Saying that he would make Bird look like a fool, but not Magic, is just Ridiculous. Pistol had the capability of making ANY defender look like a fool. Jordan, Bird, Magic....it doesnt matter

  • It is great that all of his team mates seem to be waiting for a crazy pass. If he passed me the ball it would just hit me in the face and go out of bounds.

  • He sureloved that underhanded long pass;never seen anyone ELSE do that; You can see inspiration for Bird and Rondo here..

  • Can't wait for 2k12 thanks to all the people that requested for Pistol Pete also i was one of them

  • I'm laughing at some of you guys saying 'these passes wouldn't be that great today'. These plays aren't as spectacular today because Pete PIONEERED them THAT LONG AGO. It'd be like seeing Elvis for the first time.

  • I can wait for NBA 2K12

  • in the nba today they would be basic normal passes but they're still great

  • i mean hes serbian. do i have to say more?

  • Pete could have been a great Quarterback!!

  • @tuklaping

    why?

  • Some of these are good, but this is not his top 10 plays. #10? What was that? Pete had much better highlights than this.

  • That underhand pass is ridiculous.

  • Pete was the original show man of basketball n if him or Dr.J didn't play then u wouldn't see more then half the moves u see today. N who ever disliked this vid is stupid n they really dnt know how good he really was. This vid is only a sample. He did alot more.

  • @ericfogle1 your a fucking idiot... Pistol Pete was easily the best player in college basketball and arguably the best player in the NBA, there will never be another Pete Maravich, so go play some more NBA2k11 and stop commenting on a video your jealous of... Thank you for your time

  • @Jgreer23 Good player yes but stfu best player in nba. You out of your mind

  • @Jgreer23 He's the best player fuck you. The man was completely selfish cared about scoring. Your basically saying hes better then Jordan, bird, Bryant etc. You no what me and Maravich have in common? We both don't have rings

  • @albokilla1 Pete Maravich would beat Kobe Bryant 1 on 1.....you can take that to the bank

  • @williwo LOL never, you probably forgot Kobe is a great defender. Kobe's foot work would make Maravich break his angles. Learn basketball kid

  • @albokilla1 LOL....nice try KID. But I know plenty about Basketball.....and could easily name every champion for every year going back to 1956. Kobe has never defended anyone with Maravich's level of ball-handling skill. Simply put, Kobe would not be USED to guarding a Ball-handler of such legendary skill, and constant barrage of unguardable tricks. The highest level he has guarded would be someone like Steve Nash, whos good, but no Pistol Pete. Please go educate yourself.

  • @albokilla1 Kobe would fall flat on his face trying to steal the ball. Pete would just toy with him, like he did to everyone. We're talking about a guy who would often dribble a basketball while doing other tasks when he was growing up. Dribbling a basketball was as common to him as eating and sleeping. "Pistol Pete is the best ball-handler of all time."-John Havlicek. Sorry but you're comparing a Great defender with the GREATEST Ball-handler in NBA history

  • @williwo That would explain the amount of rings he has. Such a great player could't win championships. Also i highly doubt he is the best ball handler of all time. Basketball has evolved every decade. They said Bob Cousy was the greatest ball handler of all time but if he dribbled like that in today's NBA the ball would be stolen from him easily. So before you say go educate yourself you need to educate yourself because you clearly do not know what your talking about.

  • @albokilla1 Try not to express your opinion…you show how stupid and ignorant people can be…

  • @bserban1 Ok buddy. Its funny my comment shows fact but apparently to your standards its ignorance.

  • @albokilla1 seriously, you have any idea what your talking about? I'm a fan of Kobe but the Pete would rape Kobe in a 1 on1 match.

  • @albokilla1 You're one of those Idiots that thinks everybody who plays today is better than everyone who played 30 years ago. Sorry, but most people know thats a stupid argument. You're in the minority there. Thats like saying Obama or Bush is a better President than Washington, just because they're modern Presidents and the times are more advanced. A very foolish and arrogant stance to take

  • @williwo That is completely irrelevant to the topic. That's like comparing Global warming and football. Just to let you know genius it has evolved. Just because you love Pistol Pete even though he was a selfish player does not mean he's great. . Even though every game i have watched has been him forcing shots. Also the people that are shutting me down are people like you who are ignorant and idiotic. You probably never even played on a team. Great player huh? Not even in top twenty.

  • @albokilla1 Yeah....well I played for 9 years and won a Championship. So yeah. Dont you look like the clever one now, Haha. As for Cousy, they said those things about him BEFORE he even started playing in the NBA. "If he tries that fancy Dan stuff in this league, they'll cram the ball down his throat." Yea, look how that turned out. People dont handle the ball like Cousy today because they're NOT AS SKILLED. Its as simple as that. A guy like Cousy would PLAY with today's defense.

  • @williwo You honestly are an imbecile. You have no argument that justified what i said. I clearly won the argument. I cant argue with someone that can not face FACTS. It's like arguing with a five year.

  • @albokilla1 dude, just leave. You're a stuck up Punk that has no concept of Basketball, and everyone else on here knows it. You're wasting your time.

  • @williwo This is when you know you one an argument. They go & say offensive things. Instead of resorting to the argument they change the direction and talk about something that is completely irrelevant to the topic. I will stop writing comments my work here is done.

  • @albokilla1 HAHA....YOU were the one who started saying offensive things Pal. You called me an "Imbecile" and then I called you a Punk. ONCE AGAIN, you display your ignorance. You're right, you shouldn't respond again. Because you keep needlessly displaying your foolishness to everyone else. You Lose

  • @albokilla1 The people shooting you down are people who actually possess COMMON SENSE. Which is obviously something that you don't relate to very well.

  • @williwo Also look at Bob Cousy. If he dribbled like that in today's game the ball would be stolen every time. People do not control the ball like Bob Cousy did. You know why because basketball has evolved.

  • @albokilla1 "if he dribbled like that in today's NBA the ball would be stolen from him easily." Prove it Numb-nuts. Oh I suppose Derrick Fisher is a greater talent than Bob Cousy now huh, Lol. You havnt a CLUE of what you're talking about. Secondly, You dont judge individual greatness on Rings. Thats the workf of a GREAT TEAM....which Pistol Pete was never on. So nice try, but once again, your argument fails. I see other people are also shooting down your Idiocy on here.

  • @albokilla1 Kobe? Bryant?

  • @albokilla1 i agree that pete is n't the best ever but was trully great player.as concerns did n't win a ring i could tell u many great who did n't...k.malone,baylor,barkley,stockton,wilkins....lebron have n't yet!pete never was in a great team,do n't forget even mj did n't win until pippen join him.as concerns b.cousy mostly play in 50's and pete play in 70's..that means 20 years.but let me tell u something if cousy play today, would 've be much better ball handler and with his IQ would be great

  • @AdreasTheGreat i have never said that he is not a great player just not the greatest, but i have to say you can not defend Stockton or Malone. They both couldn't win a championship when the pick and role was unstoppable!!!!!!

  • @albokilla1 actually THEIR pick and role was unstoppable cause was perfect!there were n't the only and either the first who did it,actually i remeber cousy and russell in 60's did many times to!i only say that winning a champion is very important but do n't show how great a player is,sanders took 8,horry 7...both more than mj!

  • "@ericfogle1 i think your childhood is a very terrible one because you cant appreciate sunthing simple. your just a stupid mothafucka dude. maybe your just jealous of pete because he mad it into the nba and you didnt. i bet that you cant even pass the ball and play basketball. im only 17 but i know when a man puts lame comments on a video about how lame it is, is the one who really doesnt know BASKETBALL.

  • the 13 dislikers are posers

  • without this guy and dr.j nba would suck

  • 13 people don't appreciate the origin of "Showtime"

  • 0:53 "The Rondo" Is invented...

  • Half of those clips were from one game.

  • And he's of Serbian descent. Fuck yeah!

  • there's one pass i saw on a highlight reel on youtube, which utterly baffled me. i can't find it now, does any one have any ideas?

  • pistol pete best pass ever nuff said :) ┌∩┐(>_<)┌∩┐

  • Passing is a dying art in basketball. Who can do crap like that these days? D-will? Steve Nash? Rondo...maybe. I need to see a better highlight reel of Pistol Pete. What I saw here I feel is just the tip of the iceberg.

  • pistol pete great player he never won nba title but this moves is magic , great player. no 2 is super.

  • This is his worst plays!! His best plays were his scoring plays

  • to all who don't recognize talent of pete maravich, yeah right, just replace jazz by gangsta rap, and you will see, much more impressive.

  • so underrated

  • Awesome

  • Where's the Manu Ginobili fake pass?! Weak...

  • agree with those who think this is just "10 Plays". the man was a creative genius, yet number 10 is just a layup, and number 8 a nice but fairly ordinary pick and roll. 7 looks like a travel but we'll forgive him. 5 is amazing. 2 is so hard it should have been 1. Sick.

  • Uh, 9 of 10 of these "top" plays occurred in two games in Pete's rookie season. They're all great, but by now means the top plays of Pete's career.

  • i like #5

  • pete got ankle breaked at 7

  • @double2656 yea then pete embarrassed that dude

  • he obviosly played rugby

  • awesome

  • awesome

  • i saw a dream shake

  • THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO SHOULD BE DISLIKING THIS VIDEO IS THE PEOPLE HE SHITTED ON ON THE COURT. COME TO THINK OF IT...THEY SHOULD BE DEAD BY NOW.

  • haha - this is so LAME. Every one of these plays happens every minute in ANY NBA game today. I didnt see one thing worth talking about ....

  • @ericfogle1 Yeah I was just thinking that same shit.lol

  • @ericfogle1 Back in the day, this shit was AMAZING! The NBA evolved!

  • @ericfogle1 because you're too retarded to understand the significance of these pays, dumbass. players wouldn't be doing this shit today if it weren't for maravich.

  • @dchockeygoali07 you are an idiot and probably fail at everything that you've done and have tried to do.... which is why you think this video is good. Losers tend to gravitate to other Losers. well done. I win.

  • @ericfogle1 it's sad you're 30 years old and still know absolutely nothing about sports. if you don't recognize the legacy of a man who averaged 44 points per game, in college, before the 3 point line was around, you're an absolute fool.

and i fail at everything i've done in my life, just because you got embarrassed by a youtube comment? yeah, that sure makes sense...

    looks like "I win."

  • @dchockeygoali07 I won. Case closed.

  • @ericfogle1 if that's all you can say, obviously, you lose at everything.

go troll somewhere else, because you're doing a horrible job of it on here.

  • he was flash before flash was invented

  • rondo got his move from 0:53

  • @harrisanddave and hakeem Olajuwon

  • @harrisanddave rondo does not even measure to his talent that is a bad comparison

  • @Orlmagicfan4life He wasn't comparing their talent. Rondo just did the same exact move at :53 that Pistol did.

  • Someone said Jason Williams a better passer than Pete? Was Jason Williams 6'6" tall?

  • lol imagine pistol and magic running a fast break with Jordan and dominique wilkins to finish

  • R.I.P. Pete

  • He was the best in his time, don't say he would be the greatest player nowadays... Jason Williams had great handles, and better passing than him, but still he was not the best player in his time too, considering only the first 10 years, the last two ones were bs...

  • this guy sucks ballz

he played in a hell on athletic era with crappy players

  • @MrEdHizay You honestly have no idea what you're talking about. If he had grown up playing against today's talent and had today's training techniques, you'd better believe he'd be one of the best today.

  • 1:46 is the sickest full-court assist I've ever seen. That's like a Rick Barry foul shot, but an assist!

  • I saw him, any of you asshole want to say shit, you are as stupid as the president. Run your mouth, do not ever talk basketball, ever, unless you want to be an ass

  • Now this is before Jason Williams

  • 0:17 nice goaltend

  • I see where the "dream shake" came from lol. number 5

  • :57 i knew rondo wasnt the first to give a fake layup like that, but DAMN i had no idea that move was THIS OLD!! GO PETE!!

  • @sshaxy same here

  • i've seen better plays by pistol pete then this top 10

  • @kmerf Looks like 5 of the 10 came from one game against the Cavs.

  • amazing.

  • he was so good.. but #6 sucked

  • 0:48 Did he just fake that he got anklebroke? GENIUS!!!
