This country was built around God? Really? Hmmm...let's take a look at our constitution... Nope, no mention of God. Oh, and it explicitly outlaws "religious tests" for people seeking public office. It's true that the first amendment protects freedom of religion--but of course, that includes freedom of nonbelief too. And it say that government must not show preference to any particular faith.

Doesn't sound to me like the country was built on God at all....

I find it strange how civil he seems when he is trying to impress his friends, but he treats so many others with such complete disrespect, like the people that he represents that have grievances with him. Watching this sweet grandpa act... its not who he really is. But then again, that seems to be how all the politicians act. Sweet and comforting when they want people to do what they want, and cruel and heartless when they need to be corrected.

Doesn't say anything about "Congress must forcibly silence the expression of religion in public." It in fact says exactly the opposite - "...no law...prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Funny that the "wall of separation between Church and State" was originally written to reassure Baptists that Connecticut's official State Church wasn't threatened by Federal Law.

House rules give incumbants some unfair advantage in elections, so reps rarely lose their semi-annual reelection. The SF bay area is just about the most progressive and liberal areas in the whole country. Surely they won't make a big deal if he doesn't.

I'm an Aussie and I agree, it's a relief to see sanity making a comeback in the US. Obama's speech on religion makes me think he could be a closet atheist or at worst a deist. Either way he has taken "god's will" out of US foriegn policy and has thouroughly repudiated Bush's "with us or against us" dogma.
