  • This band OWNS. They are my favorite band period. I don't think that anyone is more talented that I have heard yet. I have heard all the prog bands.

  • troppo tosti.

  • Thanks for this version which is way better than the studio version. Can you load more BBC session Top Gear?? please, theres nothing on youtube.

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth:

"The Box" includes from the Top Gear recording dated 18th November 1968: People You Were Going To / Afterwards / Necromancer.

Also from the Top Gear recording dated 27th January 1970:

    Darkness 11/11

    After The Flood

It Also includes a few songs from various Peel sessions (Refugees - 1971, Cat's Eye / Yellow Fever - 1977, The Sphinx In The Face - 1977), and from the Alan Black session of 1971 (Theme One).

You should try to get a copy - perhaps a Xmas/Birthday present.

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth:

Watch my channel for more PH/VDGG.

I might try to upload "People You Were Going To" from The Box, but the other tracks are already well represented on YT.

I mostly try and upload songs not already on YT, or versions which are particularly interesting, or standout versions that are not easily available.

  • The Keyboardist connect his electric organ to a Fuzzbox! grat trick for the psychedelic-progressive generation (along to process the voice or guitar by a Leslie speaker)

  • @IrelandMorrigan:

  • Great!

  • much better than the studio version

  • fuckin' great :)

I Think I must have been cracy.

  • Dude!

"I am the god of hellfire. And i bring you ..."

Now it's your turn to tell us which band inspired CJS & PH to form VdGG.

Finally: Why in the world should Hammill be ashamed of that song? He doesn't regret "Killer" either. They still even play it.

  • PH and Arthur Brown are friends and have worked together.

  • Sure. The PH - Arthur Brown link is well known. But "worked together"? Ok, i don't know all of those details. About 10 years ago they both contributed to Chris Judge Smith's "Curly's Airships" project. Or did you mean that with "working together"?

  • I saw Arthur Brown (with Kingdom Come) a few times in the early seventies - he was sensational - what a great voice.

  • I recorded this session on my reel to reel back in 68...i havent played it for at least 25 years...if i can locate it and the quality is ok i will try to post it

    Jim

  • Is that Hugh doing the vocal harmonies?

  • Not known, but it could be Chris Judge Smith.

  • I thought it was Jackson

  • It could be, but if CJS was still there he would certainly have added some of the harmonies.

  • Jackson wasn't with the band at this point; he didn't join until "The Least We Can Do ..."

If it is Judge Smith, his voice sounds different than it does on the Firebrand single. I mean, it's actually in tune!

  • thanks for posting, makes my heart happy, to hear the intention and passion of the young VDGG. It all started from these youngsters

  • This is actually not a video of the band performing "Necromancer".

This is just the song with footage from elsewhere.

Furthermore, as anyone who knows anything about the band knows, David Jackson (the sax/flute player) wasn't in the band at this point (he didn't join until after Aerosol Grey Machine).

  • Many thanks for re-iterating two points that I had already made in the video information on the right of the video box.

  • Whoops!

Apologies, as I hadn't seen that before.

  • Wonderful to find VdGG fans suitably courteous - like the members of the band, I believe. Well done!

  • Someone should make the tab of this song, I can't get it anywhere.

  • ???

  • The posting is ok. The song is a classic. And you, mister, fall under the category of W*****R! (Don't worry, I mean winner). Or do I?

  • Nice job. Where is the b/w video of Peter at 1:24 from? It looks quite old - do you have a full clip of it?

  • It's from 1981 - a download from YouTube - do a search for "peter hammill this side of the looking glass live" to see the full clip (in colour). It is quite excellent.

  • I take that back - it is not excellent - it is brilliant. The posting from user 'litzlitz' is the better quality version. Check out my other videos also.
