Yes, 1987 is not a good year..i think she started to decline in 1987. She only manage semi final in rome world champ - finishing 7th with 11.3 in the semi. She somehow manage to bring up her performance in 1988 clocking 10.89 in GDR champ before olympics but that didnt materialise in the Olympics. And in the olympics, GDR was leading up to the alst runner in 4x100, but Gohr was passed easily by Ashford. I wonder if it would make any difference if Dreschler run the final leg (she's not in relay)
i can not read it anymore. also if she would have been on steroids, she had to train hard to run so fast. it is an error to think only by taking drugs you can run so fast! she would not have been so successful if she had been sitting in a chair and watch tv the whole day!
Well, the drugs obviously helped her and her teammates endure training regimes that would have been simply unbearable for clean athletes, that was part of the cheating game.
The est of the world was doing thhe same thing but in private. People love to throw everything at the GDR and quite frankly its not right. Gohr was a fantastic athlete and worked like everyone else to get to where she was. Competed in every chamionship open to her. Respect. 1975-1988. Not many athletes out there devoted 13 years of the life to athletes. So props.
i agree. to me the world is ALWAYS a level playing field. I just watch the world sport for what it is and enjoy the competition. Sometimes those who claimed to be clean, had torso that makes Ben johnson looks like a schoolboy. I remembered what ive read abt petra schneider after the fall of east german. She said (pertaining to winning the 400 medley) "10m is very far. It cant just only be due to drugs".
I tend to agree but the problem is, where do you draw the line? It's obvious the GDR girls, Griffith-Joyner et al. cheated but how can you proclaim the rest of the field was clean? You disqualify the East Germans, right, but what do you base yourself on to award the remaining medals. Tests? We all know they were laughable in the 1980s.
I am a Japanese.I am glad that you have up load about Marlies Gore's race.I would like to see much more. For example,10.88 & 10.81 for world record, 21.74 for 200m, tv documentary program for Gore Marlies if you have.Gore Marlies is the best 100m women athlete in the world as well as Evelyn Ashford. Thank you.
The best was yet to come. Göhr was european champion at 100m from 1978 to 1986 (Prague78, Athens82 and Stutgart86). Her last time under 11.0 seconds was in the european cup of 1987 (10.95) later she couldnt get the final in the world championships in Rome87 neither the olympics in seoul88. Maybe she might retired in 1987 as her teammate Marita Koch. Anyway shes the female athele with more titles along her career.
Her last time winning a title under 11 seconds was the 1987 Euro Cup, though she ran 10.99 in one of the rounds in Seoul a year later. She missed the Seoul final by 3/100ths in the same semi as Moller who missed it by 2/100ths.
Doped women. Haglund gave later positive test

Gohr was part of the GDR doping programme and all her titles should be returned along with all the other cheats from the GDR.
