i could nt delete the masking layer, it says 'Could not clear because the pixels in a group cannot be edited without merging the group' anyone knw hw to over come?
@jimjones2012 As the overlay suggests, try pressing 'X' to flip the background and foreground colours. If that doesn't work, make sure you're pressing the right delete key. On my extended keyboard there are two: the delete/backspace key and the delete and insert keys that are part of the number pad. You want to press the 'delete/backspace' key. Good luck!
LOVE THIS! This is EXACTLY what I have needed for YEARS. I have finally been putting together some nice-looking covers thanks to this. REALLY appreciate the time you took to do this, sir!
@mes75 If you want to see a horror film that doesn't suck, I'd like to recommend the recent low-budget Australian film The Tunnel which is available as a free download on the internet. The producers are raising capital for the film by selling 'frames' for a dollar. Cool concept and a nice alternative to traditional cinema releases!
love this tutorial!! i have an assessment due this coming week and I have no clue!! how to design a dvd cover! you've helped sooo much!! thank you for putting this up.
Hey, after i do the rectangular selection for the Front and Spine layer, I click del but the layer doesnt have half white half black. It just stay the same, is there any other way i could turn the layer mask to half white half black ?
@clownjoke That's the idea. I've had no difficulty with the slip cases that we buy. Make sure there's no scaling in the printing process. If you want to double check, take the paper slip out of the case you've bought and measure it. You can always adjust the canvas size later if necessary.
Thanks for the step by step. Now i am stuck with the next part!! I don't know what's next to continue with completing the Horror Dvd Cover!!! any suggestion where and how you name your next video to complete the tutorial....
I have been looking endless nights for how to make a DVD cover for my French Project, and I was about to give up, when I saw one video in my recommended box, and I saw this. If I met you, I would by you the most expensive Champagne bottle EVER!!! Thank you so much!
This is an AMAZING tutorial, although I have a comment. When you say to press delete,( 6:56 ) and you have the caption to press "x" to flip, you don't have to do that. You just have to make sure you have the "paper clip" symbol to the near left of it not showing. That worked for me. I will continue through the whole series of these tutorials now. Thanks SO much, and I subscribed.
Which Adobe Photoshop i need for DVD covers? Photoshop Album Starter Edition,Adobe Photoshop Elements 8,Adobe Photoshop Lightroom® 2 or Adobe Photoshop CS5? please help :C

right, no idea what i did differently, but made it work that time- thanks for the video post, i can't express how much I hate photoshop and you're really helping make this dvd job possible. I want to live in FCP alone!
All is revealed later in the tutorial! For this projects, I used Trajan Pro on the cover, Helvetica Neue for the skinny text on the back and some kind of serif font for the back.
Thanks for the comment! I worked harder on this one, recording the screen in HD and zooming in where appropriate, also has tip overlays appearing on the screen which I thought would help a bit.
movie editor?
SDCdavidSDC 2 weeks ago
@SDCdavidSDC Final Cut. But I'm sure similar editors, like Premiere, would do just fine, too.
ibrett78 2 weeks ago
@SDCdavidSDC Oh, and in some of my more recent videos, I use After Effects to do particular things, too. Motion graphics and the like.

Hi, are the dimensions for creating a regular DVD Cover the same as the dimensions for a Blu-ray DVD cover?

@graeme6630 No, I give the dimensions for both of them towards the beginning of the video.

@n1les Photoshop CS3, CS4 or (if it's out yet) CS5 is what you need.
Photoshop Album Start Edition and LIghtroom are for managing your photo collections and doing basic image manipulation.
Forget Photoshop Elements, it's just rubbish.
