  • great video! this has got to be the most bang for the buck super car there is. cheers.

  • @krzfly Cheers ! Glad u liked the vid. :o)

  • your Ultima is stunning! I liked the in depth review, but I have a few questions. First of all, I am just about to turn 18, and am getting a job. I plan on purchasing an Ultima.I understand that just the standard car with some extras ( power mirrors, lights, etc) costs around $20-30,000. With that said, about how much did you pay for yours if I might ask. Also, is that the stock engine that can be ordered by Ultima, or is it a high end option? thanks, and have a good one with that beautiful car!

  • @skater4life2360 Hi there ! Thanks for watching and for all your comments. :o) Ultima do sell quite a few kits to the US and they get their engines mostly from Detroit - the small block chevy is an ideal fit ! Yes, get that job and get saving ! You might be able to build one for $ 30k if you source the engine and gearbox yourself. Although I have sold mine now (divorce - bummer eh) I too am saving up (for another one !). Building it was as much fun as driving it !

  • Excelent video!!!!! .....

  • Cheers ! And happy new year to all youtubers out there ! T ;o)

  • Excellent. I remember seeing this car (i think it was this one) at Fighting Torque. There were 1 or 2 other Ultimas there as well (a black one IIRC). Certainly better to look at than the (seemingly underage) dancing girls they had there!

Love the idea of child labour for polishing the wheels :)

I got a passenger ride in a Yellow Can-am model at another event similar to Fighting Torque (but much better) off a friendly chap. Sound inside from the engine on full chat is just awesome.

  • Thanks for watching dude :o)

  • What happens with the body where you've had to trim it? Is there some way to re-coat it (presuming gel coat) in one area or would you have to strip it and have the lot done?

  • Hi ! Yes, the body can be repaired is needed, GRP plus Gelcoat covering. But it's pretty tough and stonechip resistant. i got Ultima to do most of the drilling and flashlines on the body (an option they do and well worth it, but you can do it yourself).

    Thanks for watching !

  • Your probably tiered of people say thanks, But I have to say it anyways.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience.

    I have three questions.

How much and what was the cost break down as simply as you like?

How many man hours, (and Beers) did it take?

Finally, are you still Married? (I've heard stories)

  • Hi there !

Cost was £ 55k, £10 for engine, £ 5 for 'box, £35k for kit and another £ 5k for bits and bobs.

Hours - hmm. About 450. And beers, about 450 too !

Still married ? No. Recently divorced. And the car has now gone I am sad to say. But gonna build another one next year with a little more power ! :o)

    Regards

    Tony

  • So it's true. If we spend a lot of time building a car, my wife might leave. Tempting. LOL

I do hope life is better for everyone.

Looking forward to seeing your next build.

    Cheers

  • Very nice ride, btw, Tony! Good job man! Cheers from The States!

  • Hi there ! Sorry for delay in replying, been moving house. Thanks for the comments. And yes, I so wonder why Ultima don;t make a cover for the front wheels, shouldn't be a big job I guess. Thanks for watching ! Tony

  • OK, the rocks being thrown up from the front tires, it seems like Ultima would use something similar to the hood of a C4 Corvette. For those not familar with this, the front wheels & suspention is uncovered when the hood is open, but it's somewhat boxed in except for the top, which is covered by a piece that bolts to the underside of the hood, creating a closed box around them and a rubber seal in between the 2 parts. I just wonder why they don't make something like that for the ultima's hood?

  • nice! would i have seen your car at stoneliegh?

  • start the car!!!

  • He he :o) You can have a look at my other videos for the V8 soundtrack ! regards, Tony

  • I watched a few of your videos and it looks and sounds awesome! But a question about leg room, how is it? Whats probably the max height a person could be to fit in this(ft plz :-D)?

  • Hi. Height max is about 6 ft 2 inches, but anyone over 6 foot would struggle to wear a helmet and drive it (e.g. for track days). Ultima do a lowered floopan and special seat for tall guys but my guess it will only give you another inch or so. That said, I do know a chap who is 6 foot 3 who fits in no problem, but he has long legs and a shorter body.

Remember, there is always the open top "CanAm" model - height no issue there !

    Thanks for watching !

    Tony

  • very nice car

i am thinking of getting one - depending on finance of course ;o) did you go into hinkley and order yours from the factory itself?

also, honestly how hard is it to build. i am quite well trained in construction, but am wary thats it a WHOLE car that you are building. how long did it take you to build??

thanks, and very nice video btw

  • Hiya !

If you are serious, call Richard or Ted (mention Tony said to call) and they will give you a tour and a test drive. I guarantee you will buy one after that ! (and no, I am not on commission !!).

I couldn't change a plug but it really is easy to build - everything fits together perfectly. You'll have no problems if you know construction !!

    Regards

  • Definately the best looking kit car in the world, nice job. Great narration too!

    Thanks

  • Cheers !

  • there is only 1 little problem nowhere 2 put your stuff or is there plenty of room in the cab? but other than that keep the videos coming!

  • There are two cubby holes in the side pods that can hold quite a lot of shopping - I managed to get 24 cans of stella in one and with the air con pipe running through the pod the cans were cold by the time I was home !

  • those racing seats look really uncomfortable

  • No, they are great. They have inflatable lumbar supports. :o)

  • nice car I really want to build one is it possible to but parts in stages because of funds ..you know .

ps i really like your car i think you've done a great job and i like it that you didn't put a wing on it ...i like it more without it but ? does it make a huge difference with the wing? high speeds?....

  • Hi there, and thanks for the comments :o)

Yes, you can buy the car in stages and most people to (me included) to save on space and spread the cost. Stages 1 to 3 are enough to start with as the panelling takes a while.

I agree about the wing, it's a cleaner look without the wing but there is a lot less downforce at higher speeds. That said, I've had no wories, even when on the brakes after a high speed run.

    Regards

    Tony

  • Great work Tony!

Congratulations to that stunning car. Very informative video showing may little interesting details about the car.

I start liking it more and more...

    Claus

  • Thanks for the comments ! Are you thinking of building one ? They are a GREAT car and the kit is absolutely superb. If you are ever in the vacinity of Telford then email me and I'll take you out for a run :o)

On an unrelated note, are you also involved in pensions ? Section 179 and all that ?

    Regards

    Tony.

  • I have been looking into the Ultima kit for a few months. It seems like an excellent product with alot of support from other builders. I will not be making a decision for a while still. Waiting on funds.

Thanks for the offer to see your GTR. Unfortunately, I will not be in your area. I live in the US (Chicago). That is the helpful attitude of Ultima owners that make a purchase that much more appealing.

Section179? In the US it has to do with depreciation for income taxes - my day job.

  • Thanks for posting the video. Your Ultima seems to be a good example of what one would be like if built to the factory specs. I have not seen one of these in person, but I found this quite helpful when considering buying one of the kits. Nice job.
