  • Congratulation!

  • epic turnaround of the guitar at 0:02

  • best interpretation on youtube

  • Wonderful.

  • Cheers Cobbler and for the sub.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Well I have the same guitar and model so yes.

AND playing this very song for my college auditions!

  • it's theraputic playing that - isn't it

  • Yes...could you tell that easily?

    Cheers,

    Paul

  • Beatiful interpretation =]

P.S. Is that an orpheus valley guitar?

  • Cheers.

It is a 1966 Oscar Teller (German Luthier). Got it off e-bay for £150.00!

  • j'adore ce nocturne. Trés belle interprétation.

Par curiosité, qui est-ce qui a confectionné cet instrument ?

  • Je vous remercie des aimables commentaires.

Ma guitare est un Oscar Teller 1967 (luthier allemand).

    Cordialement,

    Paul

  • I really enjoyed this Nocturne, I will have to look for more by Mertz.

By the way, I like your microphone stand but mine is a bit higher tech. My hiking boot puts my microphone at a good angle and aboot the right height.

    Tim

  • Cheers Tim.

We don't need a mic stand do we, Sir? Improvisation is the order of the day.

I bet you watched Blue Peter too!

    Regards,

    Paul

  • I hear mic stands fall over. Each hiking boot has to withstand 100 lbs so no problem with a mic!

I don't know Blue Peter, who/what is Blue Peter? Perhaps something up my alley.

    Anyway, always enjoy your playing.

    Regards,

    Tim

  • hi gangly1

I really enjoy the song. I have learnt it but my tutor says that I cannot show the "heart" from the song.......

    Alex

  • Hi Alex.

Your tutor is, probably, right. You need to nail the piece first and then get the emotion into it when you are not worried about what your fingers are going to have to do next.

I have brim loads of emotion, but no skill!!

You obviously have the skill and the emotion will come in due course.

I would swap places with you tomorrow!!

    Regards,

    Paul

  • accord arpegés .. une idée

  • Man that is great calm expression. Never heard this song before. Nice recording too ★★★★★^^

  • Cheers Blues.

You think this is calm expression??

Have a look at jnclassicalguitarist playing this.

She oozes the piece from her pores!!

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Dear friend

I watched it before and favourited. Real calm and grace interpreation.

    My best BJC

  • well played. I play this piece also, and also start with the E on the second string. You can end the piece in the last bars with 4 on c and 3 on g.

  • Thanks Daan01.

My rest stroke stinks on this!!

Self-taught and losing a never ending battle to improve without tuition, so your advice is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Beautiful piece. I did not know the existance of this Mertz's nocturne. Very well played. I have enjoyed your performance.

  • Thanks Lute.

jnclassicalguitarist plays this too, in related vids to the right. I think she has far nicer phrasing in the return to the main theme.

    Regards,

    paul

  • I discovered this piece a few days ago. You play it beautifully!

  • Thank you Mathias.

  • You made a nice job of this lovely piece. I'm using it as a study model myself as I've just located the score on the Dos Amigo' s site. Thanks for playing.

  • Cheers Dave.

Please post when done. I never tire of hearing this beautiful piece.

    Best Regards,

    Paul

    Paul

  • I loved it - your expression was just right. I was working on fingals cave a while back which is another beautiful one

  • Cheers Tonyyyy.

    Please post it.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • None taken my friend. All playing suggestions are gratefully accepted.

As for the sound, it is a little bit of echo, not delay, and yes I could avoid it, but the room is so acoustically dull I prefer not to do so.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • I like the balance between solo and accompaiment-voices. But the sound's delay-effect is crappy. Can you avoid it? And, some extent of vibrato would be nice on those romantic gems.

    No offence.

  • Bravo, molto ben suonato e con sentimento.

    Complimenti.

  • La ringrazio molto, per le sue cortesi osservazioni mio amico.

    Paulo.

  • Thank you for sharing . Beautiful!

  • Very beautiful ! You play with real feelings Paul. 5 *****

  • Cheers Fabjan. Still got a twangy rest stroke though. It will come one day.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Oh Paul, this is so beautiful! Both the piece and your playing of it. This may be my favorite of your postings, but you don't make it easy to pick a favorite. You've been quite productive lately - lucky us!

    Best,

    Paul

  • Cheers Paul.

Productive with quantity, yet lacking in quality!!

    I will get there eventually!

    Best Regards my friend,

    Paul

  • Thanks Jo.

In which English class did they teach you the word Gosh?

    Amazing.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Nice!

    Gosh, I love Mertz!

    Best,

    Jo

  • love your new video!

    sounds nice.

    5/5

  • Cheers Jesse. The emphasised rest strokes still sound harsh. Trying to sort my nails out, but having no luck yet.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Ahhh, so nice.

    Linda

  • The piece has that "Aaah" feeling to it doesn't it? Can't help the untimely head-bobbing when playing this!!

Proper big girl's blouse I am.

Only a bit of Guinness in the tummy too.

    Take Care,

    Paul

  • Congratulations. Beatiful as always.

    Jorge

  • Cheers Jorge.

I like it very much!! Mertz has a lot of beautiful pieces! It's really lovley! A few weeks ago I play No.1 thats nice too!

    Sarah :-)

  • Hello Sarah!!

I am very well and hope you are too.

I never heard Mertz's pieces until about 6 months ago. I agree that they are beautiful. I am trying to find more.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Hey there Gangly! You play this piece really really beautiful. You've wrote me that you are a self-taught guitarist. (Yep, I say guitarist :))

Now, if you wouldn't have told me, I'd think you had a lot of tution. I really like your playing and your technique produces a clean, lovely sound.

Hope to see a lot more videos from you here on YouTube. :)

  • Thanks a lot Bbm (your name would help)!

I think I will stick to my designation after hearing your Sor.

    Best Regards sir,

    Paul

  • I love this piece! very nicely played. you're a great guitarist! Looking forward to more of yours videos

    Liran

  • Cheers Liran. Thanks for the kind comment, but you are a little misdirected. I am a guitar player...ie. I play at it .....you are a guitarist!!

There is a world of difference!!

    Regards,

    Paul

  • What a brilliant piece wow!! Man you are getting pro by the day Like Mike Said your control is comendable

    Best Regards,

    Himanshu

  • Hi Hims. Thamks for the kind comment.

Got any cricket to watch...or just the disintegration of the game?

    What a mess eh?

Hope it gets sorted and soon.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Yes It's a shame How low can the aussies Go to win , We had the match In our grip 134/6 They knew that There Defeat was Inevitable , Heck they Even set up the 3rd umpire. I am also sad to see that India Is still there in Aus , If i were in Kumble's Shoes I would have brought the team back Home !!!! Bloody Aussie Cheaters ..That racist cheat *********** Steve Bucknor should be kicked out What say ?

  • Paul, I have to say your feel for tempo is among the best I've heard on Youtube. I wish I could control the speed as you do. Watching my own videos it appears someone is off camera with a gun to my head threating to pull the trigger, if I don't hurry up and finish. Well done as usual.

  • Cheers Mike.

I am amazed at the tempo maintenance in this one. I, too, had a gun to my head. Karen was hoping this take would be good enough to post....an episode of a UK soap opera was imminent!!

    Regards,

    Paul
