A BEAUTIFUL video to go with a beautiful song. Not trying to ber picky, but in the chorus, you have "If you FINE someone who cares to give..., but it should be "If you FIND someone who cares to give". Not trying to be picky as I said, Just wanted to set the words straight on it. But this is the best of all the videos of this song! THANK YOU!
Wonderful video of a wonderful song.. Reminds me of the joyous years before vietnam. and the good times after..and it always will remind me of my first love..Jeanne
Love CAN make you happy, or it can cripple you. when we met. I KNEW right off SHEWAS THE ONE! She was so beautiful and loved going to church , and just everythng! Then she accidently choked to death the night before I was going to propose.. I went 2 hrs early before people started showing up for the wake, so I could slip the engagement ring I'd boughther, onm her finger. It wasa ful caret ing, and it's bured with her. RIP, my cindy,(CYNTHIA). I'll see you in heaven! you were only 30 RIP my love
Such a beautiful song, and yes love can make you happy. It doesn't always have to be the romantic kind either. You can find love in good friendships also. Brendan, Craig, Paul C, Paul R, Danny, Elijah, Dee, Ruiqiu Ye Liu, Robert and Ariel. I Love You guys and gals
When I was in high school Jack (the guy who wrote this) and a a few other kids all hung together.....great memories...we were all so proud of Jack when this came out!
This song has such a wonderful melody and message. I know it reminds me of someone I met thorough "pen pals" while I was serving in Vietnam during this time. She will always come into my mind when I hear this song.
I want to dedicate this song to you, Erika.. I love you.. and I'm so glad to have you in my life... I look forward to sharing the rest of my life with you
I was 17 when this song came out in 1969, and the love of my life was 15. A year later, I was sent to Vietnam, and she married another man to escape the chaos of her home life She found me on Classmates in August of 2010, after searching for 38 years! Her marriage was profoundly unhappy, and she told me dozens of times by phone, letter, and e-mail, that the worst mistake she ever made was not marrying me! This song reminds me of her. I lost her in her sleep on January 18th, 2011. RIP, my dear!
@sixtiesrockboy Hello. I know I don't need to say anything, but I do appreciate what you shared with all of us. It was sad and yet happy. I know you know how much it meant to her to have found you after all of those years and how happy you being there in her life again made her in her last months on this earth. I'm truly happy you and her found each other again. God bless you and peace, love & happiness to you - Jo..
@ABeautifulWolfie Thanks for your beautiful sentiments, Wolfie! She was the WHOLE package: smart, sexy, beautiful, and funny! She deserved 50 times better! When I came home from Vietnam, I was badly injured, and an emotional basket-case. I never married, but I have wonderful memories, and a very kind but platonic 34-year roommate. Keep the hits coming! Love them!
@sixtiesrockboy I'm in a Simular sistuation now. We were the same ages as you two, went through High School, we got torn apart by " our parents". He married, went to Korea. He is in a horrible marriage, mine is not that great. Were talking, txing. I know now that He always Loved Me & I Love Him.
You know that She always Loved You. Let that be your Comfort.
@desert3347 It's interesting that you put his love in past tense, and yours in present tense! I understand what you're saying, but the aroma of fine brandy from an empty snifter can NEVER replace the brandy! I wish the best for all of you caught in this situation, and hope it works out well for all concerned! We shared a thousand happy memories, and exchanged the countless unsure looks that teenagers exchange, but they are cold comfort to one who walks alone.
@sixtiesrockboy I am agreeing with everytihng you are saying. Our choices effect our entire life wheather good ones or bad ones. I am "conforted" knowing that the only person I ever loved still loves me. He & I might not ever be together but at least I am no longer wondering about our love for each other.
I'm still hoping that you take comfort in things that you now no.
@GerrySastri Thank you for the kind words, my friend. I have her emails, letters, and voice mails. They speak of the deepest and most precious thoughts of a woman in love and the regret that comes when one has the chance to speak but does'nt. Sometimes, the chance never comes again. Regrettably, OUR chance never came again. My brother passed less than a month before her, and although she begged her husband to let her go to his memorial so she could see me, he would'nt let her! TEARS
Oh no. How sad. I had the same thing happen to me with my highschool sweetheart. I don't know where he is to this day. He was moving out of town with his family and was in his senior year of highschool. He told me that if I didn't come and be with him and marrie him like one year later that I would be so unhappy always. It's true. He was right. Perhaphs one day I will find him. I am so sorry for your loss. Was she sick?
@HippieNiecey Thank you for your kind sentiments. Yes, she was VERY sick. But we both hoped and believed that she would have at least one to five years left. It was so sudden, that we never had the chance to reunite and embrace each other. Life and it's unhappiness factor were just too much for her. She closed her eyes one night, and went quietly in her sleep. It was a year ago this month.I told her that if she passed first, she would breathe in all my love with her last breath.
@sixtiesrockboy My sincewest condolences to you. That's the only bad part of marriage 9s when we part this way. If I go FIRST,, I'll WANT MY wife to try to re-catch what we now have, and to be married again. If she does and is happy, that would be a great honor to me, knowing I made her so happy, she HAD to try again!,
@sixtiesrockboy My sincerest condolences to you. I was 47 and met a 30 yr. old girl, a professional hair stylist I just happened to go into her shop to get a fast haircut, and we got to talking and had so much in common, the music we liked , the church we enjoyed going to, ,everything. We fell in love and I was going to propose when she died the night before. I slipped the 1 caret diamond ring Id bought her, on her finger so it would be buried with her. She was so beautiful .
This is my favorite song of all time. I remember the summer of '69 and my first love. All my life I have tried to find someone who I felt the same about. Problem with that....no other woman can ever match up to a memory.
Thank you so much my friend. I have been single for 12 years now and slow to open up my heart again. But Dawn made it so much easier for me. She is one in a million and im crazy about her. We have a million things in common, including a huge and boundless love for music like Mercy's. Again a huge thanks to you and this beautiful video...when we marry, Ill surely let know...You notice I didnt say if we marry...
Dawn and I have decided that if we get married, we want to use this music. She has really changed my life at a time when I thought there was no one in the world that could make me feel young again. Dawn Kinsack has really changed me forever. Thank you Mercy for a wonderful "theme song" for us. And a rousing ovation to Abeautifulwolfie for this touching video and perfect clear audio version. Thanks wolfie.
@uscgccampbell Hello and you're welcome. I am always so very happy when I hear of people finding one another and falling in love especially when one has felt it would never happen. I am very happy for you and Dawn. Thank you for sharing this with me. It means alot to me, and please let me know if you do decide to marry - Jo.
@uscgccampbell I'm happy for you and Dawn. You might check out another video I made to "For Your Precious Love" by Jerry Butler. It's on my other channel I share with my English friend JJsOldiesMusic. That video has alot of love dedications on it which mean alot to me. There is one from a couple who have been married 50 years and they dedicated that song/video to one another. Love is so very beautiful, and now you have one of life's special gifts - Jo.
I never thought that I would hear a song that describes the love that my wife and I had for each other. I have of course heard this song before, my wife and I were married in 1969. I never paid much attention to the words untill now. We had 35 years of marriage together, she died December 31, 2004, breast cancer took her
life and part of my soul. Love starts with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a tear.
@ronnyl2 Hello. Thank you for sharing with us. Hearing about other people's happy marriages always makes me happy. I also feel that happiness as you shared with your wife helps to offset alot of the bad in this world today. Love is a beautiful and powerful emotion. My grandparents and parents all told me to be my partners best friend first, because in marriage, it will be our friendship that will pull us through the rough times. I'm happy you had many years with your wife. Thanks-Jo
@ABeautifulWolfie Hi, Your comments are very true indeed and appreciated. I never thought about this before she died. I should have recorded her on video, talking, just talking would be enough no matter what she said at least I could hear her voice and see her. If I had that I think the pain would be a little less!!
@ronnyl2 I know what you mean. I found videos my parents and granparents had taken of me as a small child and through the years growing up. My mum had packed them away, and when I watched them, I heard their voices and caught glimpses of them. I think those videos helped me to get past the hard grieving and the deep deep pain we feel at our losses for it's like having them with me still in a way.
@ronnyl2 Plus the videos are more special in that, when I have children, I can show them the videos so they can see and watch their grandparents and great-grandparents to know truly a part of their heritage and who they come from. I'm happy they all took that time to film them over the years. Have a great week-end. I will keep you in my prayers - Jo.
I had to search for that song, and found it, it's the firts time that I heard that song and it was the mirror of my life, I was a Vietnam vet not WWII, now I really missed her a lot. I love my family now and life goes on. Congratulation to you and Connie
@gva0917 Hello and thank you for your kind comment. I agree with all you say. I never tire of hearing this song. I am happy you enjoyed it. Take care - Jo
Thank you Connie, because your FORGIVENESS to me has made US possible! We'll take the Miata and have the SUV shipped with all our other belongins and furniture.
WHAT a song! I proposed to Connie and the end of April, 2011,we will move to Carmel ,California to live and be married! This is ALSO the day I proposed to my ex-wife. Just a co-incidence, but a GOOD one, an INSULT TO my ex who has bothered and pestered me ever since I divorced her 19 years ago! NOW, she WILL be leaving me, US alone for the FIRST TIME SINCE I divorced her!!
@ABeautifulWolfie Thanks! We wish you and yours the best also! Connie IS 20 years younger than me, but after16 years while we were apart because my EX made us miserable, now things will be GREAT! She STILL loves me which makes ME the luckiest guy in the world!
@alexp8654 Age is just a number. What matters is whats in one's heart, and you found your happiness. Don't look back anymore but always look forward to what you have now and what the future will be for you both. Much love and happiness to you both - Jo.
@alexp8654 Congratulations on your wedding. Carmel is so beautiful - I haven't been there since moving from Santa Cruz in 1981. Best of luck to you both.
Hi Jo, thanks for your response, there's a sad and beauty part of this: the sad part is that LOVE (Can make you happy) is hardly played on the radio, the beauty part of it is that it is not over played on the radio, that you'll eventualy get tired of it. I still watch your post most of the time because there is a lyric on it which make it more sentimental and touching, then I reminisce our good past. I missed E.J.B., I wish we'll meet again.
ABeautifulWolfie - GREAT VIDEO! Thanks for your efforts and posting! I'm a guy and it really takes me back to a better place and time.
You went to so much effort to make this video and it really shows!!! As I recall Mercy was a band in the Tampa Bay, Florida area. In fact, I think the song may have been recorded in that area.
An incident happened in the Island where I came from, it looks more like the ones in your video, I left my true love to be with someone else in the middle of her 18th birthday party on Nov 29, 1975, came back for her after a couple of years and found out that she was getting married to someone else, I went to her wedding but just sat in my car at the parking lot, then this song played on the radio, I am happily married now but everytime I hear this song I always think...what if???
@manilamaton Hello. Thank you for sharing that. Its a happy/sad story of life, but I think we all have those "what if" moments in our life when we look back or hear a certain song, etc. I'm happy for you that you found love again and are happy and that she did too. That is what is most important in the end.... Take care - Jo.
@ABeautifulWolfie I guess my "what if" song was always "What might have been" by Little Texas. But this song you've posted along with the words and background does Mercy PROUD!
Glad to find this original Sundi version. I'm one of the few who also has the LP Sundi put out with "Love Can Make You Happy" by Mercy and the rest of the songs by a fake group calling themselves "Mercy". After a short court battle, the LP was ordered removed from distribution. As an old DJ I still have my "promo" copy.
@xltrt Hello. Yes I know about my typo. I try to edit for my mistakes/typos, but sometimes I still overlook them. This is the case here, and I only realized it after I posted it on here. I didn't want to take it off and edit it. I thought and hoped people would just hear the beauty of the song and see the beauty of nature and just enjoy that. Anyway, thank you for pointing it out to me and thank you for listeing and watching and enjoying the video inspite of my typo. Have a nice weekend. Jo
@ABeautifulWolfie I'm not sure if your a woman or a man but you do have a beautiful soul and it shows. I'm glad to know romance is still alive and well somewhere out there. I play this for my sweet wife frequently just to see the tears of happiness on her face reflecting mine. Peace and love to you Beautiful Wolfie, Sincerely, wolfie154
@stukin70s Thank you for sharing that with all of us. You are a lucky couple to have one another. Never stop being romantic and showing one another how much you love and care. And by the way, as far as I know I'm a woman.... Peace to you and your wife - Jo

Such a beautiful song. Your right i don't think we always hear
the words of a song until we are in a place that makes us feel
we need some words to get us through a time that is hard for
us to deal with. I totally have been listening to words in songs
a lot more lately. I seem to be at a crossroad in my life and am
hoping i will find the words to help me move on and sometimes
i feel i don't want to move on. I am content but is that enough
to get you through life. I'm not quite sure.

@GerrySastri @sixtiesrockboy-I think the words that are spoken here
that caught me was "He Wouldn't Let Her". That is a man who has no
love for his wife. He had nothing to fear of losing her if this love had
passed on. I can only imagine the state that relationship was in at the
time. To have to ask permission that hurts even me to hear this story.
Makes no sense at all couldn't they both have come together as a couple?
Or was that not an option as maybe he wasn't invited it's sad.

Thanks again and I really enjoyed it!

An incident happened in the Island where I came from, it looks more like the ones in your video, I left my true love to be with someone else in the middle of her 18th birthday party on Nov 29, 1975, came back for her after a couple of years and found out that she was getting married to someone else, I went to her wedding but just sat in my car at the parking lot, then this song played on the radio, I am happily married now but everytime I hear this song I always think...what if???
manilamaton 1 year ago

One of my favorite love songs, just beautiful. Only problem with the video is you have one of the words wrong.
Love can make you happy when you FINE someone who cares t give...
The word should be FIND, not FINE.
Otherwise, great video!
