I like Federal Signal, they make good tornado sirens (the 2001-AC and Thunderbolt 1003 come to mind but thats off topic). Thats a nice video you've got there of one of their emergancy vehical sirens.
I don't like the siren on the MOW equipment. People associate those sirens with emergency vehicles, and I think they should remain exclusively reserved for emergency vehicle use. It's bad enough that you see the red, white and blue strobing lights on construction and utility trucks nowadays, they used to always only be for police and ambulance, and amber was for construction and utility vehicles. I hate when I'm driving and I see those strobe lights thinking its a cop, and it's just a truck.
@legsbluetrain I have seen trucks with the RWB strobe lights all over the place now, not just in TX. And I'm saying that it should be illegal for anyone but emergency vehicles to use those color strobe lights. Traditionally, the RWB strobe lights were always only used on emergency vehicles, it's only in about the last decade that they've started appearing on non-emergency vehicles like tow trucks and utility trucks. And I'm saying the sirens should also only be for emergency vehicles.
@theup3985 You won't see that in AR,red for fire & EMS,blue for police, yellow for service.Actually you can get by with white also, just can't have red and blue.Green is for emergency management here, sometimes security in other states.Purple is for the funeral escort cars,so is red,the funeral home I deal with has a red light,it resembles the MI state police beacon.Check out my funeral procession videos, you'll see the Caddy with a red light,it's the escort car.
@theup3985 I'd love to know where you see blue lights on utilities. The laws vary from state to state, but the basics are red for fire/EMS, blue for law enforcement, white is miscellaneous (used for any) and amber is public works/utilities/etc. Maybe they want to have the lights so you can tell the difference between a standard truck and one that's hauling a house behind him, perhaps?
@iceman977th I have seen RWB strobe lights on some non-emergency vehicles such as DOT and MOW trucks. I always understood it to be red (or RWB) for fire/EMS, blue (or RWB) for law enforcement, and amber for all others, but now it seems like anybody can use the RWB lights. Maybe it's not legal, but I swear I have seen the RWB or red and blue together on non-emergency vehicles before, and it drives me nuts when I see it thinking it's EMS or law enforcement and it's just some contractor truck.
@iceman977th go to TX or MO,I've seen blue and red on DOT trucks in TX,and on a tow truck in MO,from left to right, red, yellow, yellow, blue.Saw a contractor truck in MO,all blue.
@legsbluetrain Like I said, the laws vary from state to state. In KY, law enforcement is blue, fire/EMS is red, white is misc. amber is public works/utilities, and green is security...
They had to put a siren on the MOW, because there's no room to put a 60 gallon air tank, a hi-output compressor, and a Leslie S5D. Just thinking out loud here.
Now there's something I DID NOT expect! lol Great job! I never would have expected that vehicle to have a police style siren. Is that standard issue or is that MOW vehicle just special?
I find this rather funny :)
