  • Man I love this! The "Stages" live recorded version is one of my top 5 favorite songs ever (I wish Mick Ronson was added tho') What a blast to SEE it now

  • underated

  • Is it safe to say that Belew is the most uneratid guitarist of all time?

  • @MsDink72 Either him or Stephen Stills.

  • Leve it to Bowie to put Adrian Belew in the band KUDOS!! WOW f--cking awesome guitar!!!! WTF!! Yea!!

  • Is it just me or does this whole concert just feel.......awkward. It's like they had a long layover at an airport so Bowie just grabbed some fellow musicians and started playing in the canteen. Odd.

  • carlos looks coked out (so much so, he couldn't even button his shirt up right)

  • Lame ...

  • @rosscreuswell ...also Bowies' reaction is classic when the drummer goes off like this!

  • I saw this in concert in 78. It was do loud If felt like I was floating in the air

  • I wish I could play bass like that, just for one day

  • A room full of blown minds no doubt.

  • Belew and Fripp have the same thing in common, they are both prog... guitarist,,,and for those days it was and still is amazzzzing....and i played by ear to do prog,,,starting 1980...

  • i love this song this is 5 version i've listened too

  • IS that Roger Powell playing keyboards?

  • @kiernanholland indeed it is Mr Powell of Utopia fame

  • heroes was made for more than a 24th place of the most heared songs in the uk on the 77. is one of the greatest an underrated songs in music history.

  • Bowie has never had a live version that could touch the performance by this ensemble!

  • @leonakita wrong. beautiful song. well done, but NOT the best ever , that he has done.

  • @teckertime wrong?...how so?

  • Bowie's fascination with Nazi -ism very apparent in his very germanic look here

  • @leonakita

you are stupid! Bowie is English and Mod!

  • @donatellaleoni i know what he is asswipe, but this was his Berlin period..look at him , everything from his hair to his toes reeks GERMAN!

  • @donatellaleoni

I am in Italy at that time I have not quite grasped this, Bowie at the time also wanted to go for androgyny and homosexual. And 'more concrete that his look is referring to this

  • A great version.

  • and they sound like U2...before U2

  • why the violin? sounds like crap

  • @yuriha1977 Hey! That's Daryl Way from Curved Air! Where would prog be without electric violins? Get with the drones ya goose! Pagan Peace \m/

  • @rodneyhatch56 That's Simon House from Hawkwind/High Tide.

  • Absolutely brilliant !!

  • I love YouTube for this. Thanks for posting this izbro.

  • Tony Thompson on drums?

  • very nontrivial and it`s just a miracle! glad to discover a new verge of my favourite for so-long-time Artist) thank you!

  • THE PLACE LOOKS LIKE A LOCAL-BAR WHERE EVERYBODYS HAVING A BLAST!!!

  • and many more my friend bratfett...

  • I don't see Herbie Hancock in this video. That is Carlos Alomar on backing guitar you are mistaking for Herbie perhaps, just sayin'.

  • and Herbie Hancock wow

  • Amazing. This song takes on a life of its own with this group of musicians. Is anyone today performing with this kind of dedication?

  • Wow, Belew is playing Robert Fripp's part, three years before they would be in a band together.

  • coke

  • glad I was born in 1962 and get this all over me. Belew is gorgeous. Bowie is oke. More talking heads and zappz. No more heroes anymore no more china girls.

  • Si el lo dice así es..te kiero yte admiro Alfonsito....necesito verte en acción!!

  • Al bizcocho de Alfonso Andre (jaguares) le gusto mucho este video (sublime) dijo el....y

  • very nice, a piece of rock history. Thanks for posting.

  • Most studio like version I have ever seen performed live, with little ad-libbing. Musikladen is the bomb! Despite the absence of Brian Eno and Robert Fripp, the band manages to perform it very close to album cut accuracy with the not too shabby Roger Powell on synth/keys ( UTOPIA/RUNDGREN) and Adrian Belew (ZAPPA) on guitar. Simon House, on violin, helps ensure the ambient drone doesn't disipate, and as pointed out, David's vocals soar and are some of his best, live, I ever heard.

  • @leonakita

Cold War heroes. Who's roles are forgotten, even by themselves.

  • @pinz2022 Unhappy?

  • @kastenzoglo

Call me pretentious, but I was speaking for all post-war Europe. Especially Germany.

  • Sorry stratcat, but that's not Edwards and Thompson on bass/drums. It's George Murray and Dennis Davis.

  • I've watched this series of videos and it's fantastic stuff ! The funny thing is that quite a few of the comments mention Adrian Belew and no one seems to have noticed Bernard Edwards on bass and Tony Thompson on drums...the rhythm section of "Chic" (Good times, We are family, le' freak etc..)

  • what a fucking tour

  • the plankspanker is Carlos Alamar

  • belew is comming to my country in three weeks

  • Bowie's vocals are the best I've ever heard from him and Belew's guitar work is excellent as ever- what a treat. Thank-you

  • One of the best versions of this song recorded. Tight band and great guitar - whos the plank spanker?? Cheers mate

  • And thet there Belew feller is kickin' purty good too. :>

  • He plays it even better these days. He can sing it pretty well too. I've only heard two guitarists play this song properly, Belew and Fripp.

  • @rhizomatical imagine what a band with those two on guitar would sound like!!!

  • Stunning vocals from Bowie.
