  • Great version, Ron is by far my favorite banjo player, second to Sonny Osborne.

  • the audience was dragging the beat.....ruined it. she didn't want to slow down..but the bass player went to the clapping instead keeping the tempo solid

  • Clapping throws you off when you playing, just like those wooden spoons man I don't like those haha.

  • haha watch ron's foot. when he gets into it speeds up lol.

  • haha watch ron's foot. when he gets into it speeds up lol

  • There are a lot of obnoxious people in audiences who fervently wish to be the center of attention, so they hoot and holler and clap as loud as they can, all the while looking around to make sure they're being observed by other audience members. Screaming at the top of one's lungs isn't "part of bluegrass".

  • Just echoing the comments of another poster...

    "Awsome minus the clapping..."

I enjoy bluegrass, been to many events,... this audience was a bit different..

there's a point at which you chill a bit out if respect for the performers or for others who would actually like to hear the music.

    Just my humble opinion.

  • Great bass

    Audience participation ruined my enjoyment.

  • @bohemian46 Good thing you wasn't there...that's part of bluegrass.

  • @bohemian46 Ain't it funny how that works? The audience participation added to my enjoyment.

  • Awesome minus the clapping and the feedback

  • I love how Ron rolls out the backup.

  • Wonderful! I needed this today very inspiring! Put's me in the mood to pick :)

  • I'm a big fan of Clinch Mtn. Backstep, one of the first I learned, Why would anyone want to post a negative comment on anyones ability( expert or beginner), have we forgot what its like to appreciate how much effort it takes learn to play any instrument. In todays world so many people are turning to other things beside bluegrass we should be praising everyone's ability, Been to a bluegrass festival lately? How many kids do you see? Encourage not discourage people that read these comments!!!!

  • @huntert1225 Theirs alot of kids picking at Bluegrass Festivals.

  • Dont really need a guitar on this song. Ron Block is one of the best banjo pickers on the planet. Sierra Hull is excellent on the mandolin. Clinch Mountain Backstep is one of the best bluegrass songs of all time.

  • Rons my cousin!!!

  • @TruegrassBoy LOL these guys are professional musicians!!! lol youve never heard of Ron Block or sierra hull. man if you listen to bluegrass then youve been hidin under a rock cause ron and sierra are the Best in Bluegrass Today.

  • @TruegrassBoy theyre taking it easy lol

  • @TruegrassBoy are you serious? Obviously you've never heard of Alison Krauss and Union Station or Sierra Hull and Hiway 111. They are professionals. Does truegrassboy refer to cutting grass or bluegrass?

  • @hotrodjohn2 lol

  • @TruegrassBoy Ron And Sierra are about the best in bluegrass today. They played it at this speed because it sounded best AT THIS SPEED. Belive me, they can pick as fast or faster than anybody out there. It dont have to be fast to be good!

  • @flatopboy Though Sierra's mandolin chop keeps Ron's timing along w/Beth on bass.

  • How could somebody actually dislike this. These artists are amazing!

  • That Bass is sounding good Beth! Great music!

  • GOOD GB THE USA

  • Great. I enjoyed that very much!

  • No, Bowtie, it's not. Because it's an interpretation, not a reproduction. Doesn't make it horrible. That's a big part of what makes this music so fun.

  • post us a video of how good you are or shut the hell up, u failure

  • @chad1790 haha ok i will but just to let

you know my youtube name is what i play

a 1962 rb250 blowtie raised head so yeah

id be happy to post a video

  • @62BOWTIE ill be glad to watch it just message me the title when u do. i love to see some good tunes, dont disapoint meh though. 8)

  • RB tearin' it up

  • They are MUCH better than the sound quality. You can't clearly hear all the notes and nuances Sierra is playing --she is gifted--no doubt.

  • I think she's good but my boyfriend thinks she's *okay*

  • hahahahahaha thats a good one. "Ok".

  • @vlwimb84

    You need a different boyfriend.

  • Sierra Hull is the best. SHe is insane!

  • Great music @ a Great place, The Moore Brothers, Jacob & Isaac

  • Dr. Stanley would be proud.

  • are you retarded thats horrible? ralph would be pissed

  • @62BOWTIE Forget Ralph, and open yourself up to a real treat, like this video. Pissing on it doesn't do a thing to better you.

  • @Paahau lol i love how all you new age people think everything needs changed and when ralph done it that was the best period! bluegrass is being ruined by people like you<real bluegrass isn't about playing to the other musicians!

  • @62BOWTIE I understand better where you are coming from now. You're old guard wanting to protect and define what you love against changes. I could see the same reaction from people who really knew opera against a Paul Potts and his fans. They had a strong point, but they were also missing something. Music, like anything alive, is always in a state of change, evolving, & branching out from the original. Sometimes good sometimes not. You're right about Ralph, but still this was some good music.

  • Quelle ambiance ! Ron magnifique et Sierra a bien grandi, j'adore.

  • Awesome!!! love this song!

  • I love this music!

The mandelin, banjo and bass all in one sounds amazing.

Where did she learnd to play the mandelin like that.

    WOW she good!

  • i love this sound!!!

  • Ron Block is just SICK! Great video!

  • I didn't know Opie Taylor could play banjo, it must've rubbed off on him from all those jams with Sheriff Andy and the Dillards.

  • Haha. I love Ron, but that is FUNNY!

  • awesome, feet going along with

    this one, great talent

  • fantastic and no guitar.

  • This was an AWESOME video!

    Thanks for sharing this-

    Banjoistically yours,

    Jon Eric

  • wow, thanks, you guys r great

  • Ahhhhhh! No guitar? :) No really, sounds great!

  • Thats lovely - just getting back into pickin after a long layoff and its inspirational. Is she related to Dakota Dave Hull?

  • Is Sierra Hull kin to Ashley Hull? I'd like to see them together!

  • That was awesome!

    Thanks for sharing.

    Banjoistically yours,

    Jon Eric

  • Beth is awesome! I've seen her play at several shows in Mark Newton's band. Great vocalist as well!

  • just too empty without a guitar in there

  • NO WAY this is perfect without a guitar! this video is real good

  • This is one of my favorite videos on youtube lol is so good

  • Hey, I was at this show. It was great

  • That a Ralph Stanley tune there boys.

  • yep he wrote it in 1954

  • Don't forget Beth Lawrence on Bass!

  • Got it, thanks!

  • @TheGrannyPam Rock solid bass is key to any tune and she is GRANITE!

  • she is amazing im glad i had a chance to pick with her

  • I love her mandolin chop while Ron is playing his breaks.

  • Yeah she's awesome at that. Mandolin players typically fail to impress me, but Sierra Hull defeinetly stood out in my mind for her excellent ryhthm.

  • I´ve been one day later there at the Feed & Seed when Ron performed a lot more songs with some guys from Mountain Heart (Clay Hess etc). It was incredible good! I taped a lot but unfortunately I promised Ron to put it here (I think he doesn´t like that very much).

  • nice.

  • This instrumental is originally on an Alison Krauss album, Everytime you say goodbye I think it is. Ron was already recording with AKUS back then, and the mandolinist at the time was Adam Steffey, who seems to be a major influence on Sierra's sound in my opinion, so I'm not surprised they've do a version of it. Anyway, all that to say it was great, and I love Sierra's mandolin playing. Looking forward to her Album !

  • The song that you speak of on the album is called Cluck Old Hen, not this one, although they do sound similar

  • Isn't Cluck old hen on a more recent album ? I'm pretty sure this is on everytime you say goodbye, dated around 1995, because ron's picking is very familiar as well as the tune itself. I don't have this particular album with me at the moment so I can't check. As for Ralph Stanley doing it before Alison Krauss, it wouldn't surprise me, as bluegrass artists do have their own "traditional" tunes, played time and time again by different artists...

  • cluck old hen is on the (every time you say goodbye)album.clinch mountian backstep is similar to cluck old hen but they are 2 different tunes.I think both may be by ralph stanley.

  • you sound like you've got bluegrass in your blood heart and soul ms. lovely. I was raised on, mex and american folk music, and 60's, 70's &80's rock. I'm 52 and i've been playen guitarmost them years, and ive recently have fallen in love withblue grass musicsions] oops] they are. I wish i was a fly on the porch of someone who sat ther learned it and played and lived like that. I luv "cluck Old Hen" it seems like an old porch song fromm the mnt. folks the song just klucks to ya ,ya know?

  • this song is originally done by ralph stanley alison krauss had nothin to do with this song it was wrote before she was ever heard of in music.

  • this is an old oldd tune buddy. if im understanding correctly, you think alison krauss wrote this song? nooooo siree [if that is what you're saying of course. ;) ] this is an old back east song.

  • he said stanley wrote the song...purty understandable. Though honestly, I've always heard that it is essentially the old tune "Lost John" with a very slight rhythmic change (I think).

  • Ron's Pickin on that banjo is incredible! So nice to see him play in a small venue and perform for the people that love him so much! Little Seirra is not so little anymore is she. I love it that Ron is from my home state California! Not to many people in california like bluegrass so its nice knowing a great like Ron came from here.

  • Wow Sierra gets taller all the time haha, I remember when the mando looked like a guitar on her, wicked picking.
