My parents dont even want me to get one ferret since I have 3 cats 2 dogs and 3 Degus but they agreed that I could if I paid for it and he would be kept in my room(just when he's caged, he'll be able to run around during the day, they just don't want the cage anywhere else) so I earned the money myself and I'm planning on getting Oscar, he's albino:), from a local rescue group. He's 2 already. My question is, would it be better to get him a friend? My cat dc is 4 but the other 2 are just 6 mont
@Grayce523 Please don't put pets in your room. You WILL get breathing problems because of that, especially if it is a ferret. I would wait till the moment is right, you seem to have many pets atm anyway. concentrate on them until you have room in your own house for more animals. Just my opinion.
LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN IF YOU WERE WASHING HIM BECAUSE HE WAS SMELLY THEN THE BATHS ARE THE ONES MAKING THEM SMELLY SO DON'T BATH THEM UNTILL THERE LIKE VERY DIRTY
@tongogta uh,where did you get your info?Ferrets can be bathed every other day to once a month,or every to months. Some of them,as seen in this video, enjoy water.Other's do not. They need to be bathed due to a pair of sent glands that CAN NOT and I repeat CAN NOT be removed. And those sit just under their eyes.the pair that can be removed are near their tail.So be for you start capping your letters and saying not to bathe a ferret until they are flea ridden, look them up first!!
@69Mikage I have 2 of them and i have found that bathing them every 2 week is sufficient enough. But they do produce oil for their coats and they shouldnt be bathed to frequently or their oil gland will over produce to keep their coats looking shiny
@69Mikage actually he's right. Bathing your ferret too much (every other day is way too much--once a month would be plenty unless they get poop in their fur or something) will cause their oil glands to go into overdrive which will actually result in them smelling worse. Same could be said for dogs.
the way I give them shower (I got 5 of them) is I let them free to run and play in my 2000 SQ FT house (it's ferrets proof) from their own room, and take them one by one and put them in the sink. I wash them with ferrets soap and... clean their ears with ear-picks. I am sure you know it already, but as soon as I take them out of the sink - they are running and hopping and playing and making those cute notes... oh my. Soooo cute. :) Beautiful video... and gorgeous friends you have out there.
My ferret hates bath times but loves swimming in pools (weird i know) All of these people saying that you shouldn't bath your ferret are wrong. If you research ferrets then you will find that they need bathing occasionally, you can use special ferret shampoo too. unless you wash them too much, the shampoo doesn't effect their skin.
@Cottontail6969 you do not know me, or my family, so you have no hard fact that i am spoiled. i told them i didn't want a guinea pig they scare me, but they could buy one if they wanted to. SO i am not spoiled. if i wanted to i could have begged them for that ferret and they wouldhave bought it. but i didn't did i?
@high1but1low babies and adults cost the same, mine cost about 150 each, then there is all of the suplies like a good cage and food and a litter box. they aren't cheap animals

i'm sorry, but i think any animal that stays in your house can be washed. they start to get smelly after a while of not washing, and it's your pet, so it really doesn't matter either way.
@EskimoPagan selfish. then buy an animal that stinks less. but ferrets come from the forrest of germany (their ancestors). and forrest-animals always smell stronger. washing is useless
@EskimoPagan you said it's your right to do with your pet whatever you want, because it's YOUR pet. That is the point. Only because it's YOURS, you don't think about it's feelings? great. now, goodbye, useless to talk to someone like you, who thinks animals are objects which you own
@ScheissEinloggen actually, in english, we like to call that twisting people's words. you're judging this person you know nothing of, and you're judging me, who you also know nothing of. when did i say anything about you or your personal life? i actually didn't, because i don't know you. i said "your" because it is, in fact, YOUR pet. there is no other word in conversational english that i can use in those spots without sounding totally strange. if you don't want to fight, don't start it.
@EskimoPagan QUOTE: "and it's your pet, so it really doesn't matter either way." there is no other way to interpretate this sentence. Or what do you mean by saying this? It's says "It's yours, so you can decide, what you do with it" do say the same things to parents who hit and abuse THEIR children? got it? End of this conversation. Last time :Bye
@ScheissEinloggen because that's totally how i meant it. again, you're twisting my words, and you're putting emphasis on parts that weren't really what i was capitalizing on. letting a ferret wade in shallow water in a tub isn't the same as beating them, so if that's the same in your eyes, you need help. do you go bitch on every video of people washing their ferrets? there's lots of them. lol don't say something that continues an argument and expect me to not respond, because i will.
lol, all those people who are like ''oh noes she used soap' There is something called ferret soap. Or baby shampoo. i asked my animal vet and he told me that it is a good thing to clean your ferret once a month with baby shampoo or ferret soap. They don't lose there smell, but they do get really soft and clean! My ferret loves the shampoo and soap, first thing he does when he's in the bathroom is getting his little bottle of soap!!
@ScheissEinloggen The soap isen't parfumed. And i woudn't wash my ferret if my animal vet told me it was bad for him. But it isn't so i wash him!
And i don't tell you to believe it but he really does like it. When i leave the bathroom door open he even comes to take a look when i'm showering. So he does that on his own free will.
@maralichuz ferrets always want to look what their humans are doing. don't interpretate it as it's wish to take a shower. and only because the vet told you that your ferret will not die from it, it isn't a excuse to do it. my ferrets live in a big cage outside (10 meters x10 meters) and it looks like nature. with woods and so on.
@ScheissEinloggen so my ferrets need the fat/talc in their hair. they live in a group, so they clean each other. they are always frightened when they have to take a shower, so i only do it if i have to (for an operation or whatever).Yes, it isn't bad for they bodies (if they live inside the house) but it's bad for their happiness. so i don't do it. if they smell to much for you, take them in a big cage in your garden. ok, i hope someone could understand my german-english =) bye
@xxfunnyman1xx First, you should get information about the animal you buy. And ferrets don't wash themselfes in nature. so why should they get washed in capture? where it's much cleaner than in nature? don't treat animals like humans. i've you love showers, go wash yourself.
The soap hurts the eyes and mouth and so on. YOU celebrate to wash your ferret, not itself. If it needs a shower, because its full of something, that it shouldn't lick off, ok. But a ferret never loses its strong smell and they clean themselves. First think about the animal. Then at your selfish own pleasure...
Are my 2 the only 2 ferrets who would rather have a shower instead of a bath or being put in the sink to get a wash? I tried to bath my boys in the sink and did they like it? not at all then my mother and sister thought they would be funny and wash them in the shower when they were out playing and its like heaven for my boys in the shower and wouldn't have me shower them as they would rather have my mum and sister do it instead.
I agree my ferret can get VERY dusty/muddy at times. I have to admit that I have to bath him nearly every 2-3 months. NO matter how hard I try to keep him clean. As long as you have a ferret safe shampoo it should be fine. AND buy the way, you are all lucky. Boomer cost me $250 here in Canada. But worth every penny.
Feel like your mother having to teach you manners!! My goodness!! And I'm only..... That's not for you to know. Plus, a little tip, try asking them how they figured these things out. Don't accuse.
@omgitsyoubaby WELL miss smarty pants!! Don't just BARGE in here and diss someone off and call them a fool just because their vet recommended something!! do it the SMART way (and you called HER the fool...), and make a nice conversation about it, and if u think u should, try to nicely and slowly inform the person that they could possibly be doing something wrong. And if the person truly wasn't sure of wat they were doing, recommend other ways of cleaning them, like with a little soft brush. I f
omgitsyoubaby you are stupid not, ILoveMyFerret94 , she got vet help so don't talk shit to people if you don't even know what they are doing or if they checked with a pro or shit why do you care, you ass hole people don't diserve a pet or ( ferret ) so ya SHUT THE HELL UP omgitsyoubaby.
My four month old Charles the albino ferret hates baths and always smells but I don't want to bathe him too much incase I ruin his fur do you have any tips this is my first ferret and we just got a 2 year old husky rescue dog as well who keeps picking Charles up and silent snarling at him :(
What temperture should the bath be at, charles always wants out straight away when I put him in. Any tips on how I can train him as he's only just getting out for walks now but he just tries to clutch onto
@GonG108 u NEED to bathe ur ferret, but I think its ridiculous wen ppl put boots and crap on their dogs or cats, but I am getting a jacket foe my ferrets penny and allie, just for winter. ;)
my ferret really loves his bath too ^_^ but you just got to be careful that you don't bath then too much, or use too much soap in the water. ferret's skin is sensitive whitch is why they usually have that little musk to them, as it comes from their skin glands whitch produce more oils to combat the dry skin they get after they bathe, whitch is also why after a bath their musk might be a little stronger. just sayin cuz some dont know, and i luv yer ferrets! they're so cute! ^_^
really i have seen that many times dogs with boots ( its very obvious that they dont feel very comfortable with it but its soooo cuteeee) , in NY when its winter and you go for a walk with your dog beware not to have the right jacket for him you could get serious problems , not with the police they have other problems but with some very warm hearted person who can get very violent very easy with their bags and so on , lol but thats not funny i mean come on clothes for dogs
jui what are you doing don t you know that it can seriosly harm the ferret when you put soap into the water or shampoo these are animals , it´s realy sceary how the ppl in america try to make humans out of pets , love is a nice thing but think about it if you really love your pet or is it more another desire you try to compensate, pls think about it these are living beings no toys, iam sure you love your ferret but why not read a book how to tread them the best way
Americans who want ferrets should buy them from Britain they only cost about £5-£10 over here about average $7 a ferret i live my ferrets to bits all rescued =D
@Rollingag1421 not sure where to get one online as it depends on country obviously but to answer the second question:
yes and no.
you dont have to keep them in a cage, mine where housepets, they had a cage but only in so far as it was their own personal space, the cage never got locked and they were allowed out all day so they're fine to just leave to run round the house, they normally just go to sleep when you're not there anyway.
that being said, you cant let them go outside by themselves, ferrets tend to wander and can get lost very easily not to mention depending on where you live there might be dangers like dogs and othersuch.
also, you need make sure your house is ferret proof if you let them roam freely, that means nothing they could get inside to hurt themselves whether its a small hole in a wall or even reclining furniture, ferrets get into everything.
From my experience, best way to bath them is with dry pet shampoo. Its basically a white powder which you rub into their fur. Can be a little messy though, with it being a powder and with ferrets being very energetic and wriggly. :p
ferrets are awsome....whenever my ferrets get baths I never leave them in water too long...it would mess with the oils in there skin and fur that they need....cute
I love my ferret but people who just watch videos of them and they want the immediately there handwork I mean stink there cage is hard to clean up and more but there fun it's just you have to be responsible
My ferret is confusing!! When I take him into the bathroom I put him on the floor while the bathtub is filling up and he tried to get in. But when I finally put him in, he tries to get out!!! lol XD
Too cute, it kept hearing the bell and thought "what's up with the cricket?" then I saw the other one and remembered the bell. I have 5 and your are sweet too. :)
Furthermore, if you and others don't like the scent ferrets give off tough. Its part of them, they all have their own unique scent. Its a part of them as much as legs are to dogs, cats and anything else! Don't bother getting a ferret if you don't like it!
you're kidding me right? You HAVE to be kidding me? Not only are you washing them in a bath, you're using bubbles/soaps? You're such a fool, seriously. You obviously don't know how to care for ferrets, why do you own one? Have you not heard of the oils they produce? The soaps destroy that oil leaving their skin open to infections and skin problems. The top layers of fur only should be washed, and their feet (prone to getting mess on them). You shouldnt use any type of "animal safe" soaps, ever.
@omgitsyoubaby chill out! i know what I'm doing, i would never hurt my babies. I got vet recommendation for the shampoo and the bubbles are from the shampoo. I only bathe them if they get messy like once Buttons got into dirt and had dirt all over her body. I know about their oils and how they even smell stronger after a bath but it always calms down after a day or so.
@omgitsyoubaby calm down & breathe. Unless you're trolling you really need to get your facts straight b4 attacking strangers.
1. bathing ferrets is ok. usually 1 to 2 times a year is sufficient.
2. some ferrets like to swim, some don't so filling a tub with a couple inches of water is ok.
3. bubbles are not great for ferrets (because they like to lick them and too much soap CAN make them sick) but as long as they're being watched they'll be ok.
@wahttehfuk It really doesnt look THAT happy, it tries to get out on occasion, furthermore washing ferrets with ANY kind of shampoo, "approved" or not, is bad. The oils that ferrets have on their skin protect it from lice, infections and dirt. There is only a slight smell of honey, but thats really not bad. Infact if you bathe ferrets in water with or without shampoo, their body loses the essential oils and actually produces MORE oil, thus increasing the honey like smell
@ILoveMyFerret94 how do you rescue a ferret for 80 bucks???? because i actualy rescued mine someone left here outside in the winter the wierd thing is that she is full white with no other color
@Megan23242526 I payed £5 for mine from a ferret farm :P He was so adorable!! Best temperment ever for a ferret, except, he was too much of a Houdini and escaped from his cage :( miss him loaads! Have to be so careful with their security lmao x
@Megan23242526 i got mine for a 100 a adult but the bays are like 189 here in wy .....+ i didnt like the babies ...i got with a older very friendly female ...i dint wanted to have the risked my kids getting bit sinds i did got bit by them babies till blood drawn in just 1 bite ...i think where just very aggresive or something i dont know man ..but if u have time and no kids (or lil kids like arround 2 )u teach them not to bite ..
@Megan23242526 In Australia, at a rescue they are $150 each, 260 for a pair. Its not about how much they cost to buy what matter is to ask yourself if you will be able to afford food, kitty litter and time.
@Megan23242526 ADOPT pets! NEVER EVER buy them! Adopting them can be free sometimes, too, like my two were! I got the cage, food, everything, had lots of shampoos and smell-goods that came with it because the owner couldn't keep them anymore. But never ever buy from pet stores of any kind! Look up "puppy mills" (or any animal mill/farm) or ask me more about it. Animals are tortured every day, bred helplessly for money. Never buy! Always adopt!
Yes they really stink if you dont take care of them. If you have farrets they are alot of work, but they are also ALOT of fun if you have not already found out. I wash my farrets once every two weeks, their cage and everything in it once a week, clean their little box at leat once a day. I have them on a sechedule. I had to make one. Now I have had mine for two years...LOVE them. I also have a few other animals, and they all play with each other....Its Awsome!
@PrincessEbony321 the smell only gets stronger for a day or so, as long as you don't put ur nose into their fur you shouldn't notice it, but honestly i love the smell of my ferrets :) each ferret has a unique sent tho.
@PrincessEbony321 i washed mine right away ..she got cleaned up soooo nice noo more yellow fur ...and the stank went away a lot ....and i poopiescoop every day ..and watch pee spots in her cage .....i dont think she stinks at all ......even friends said wow she is not stinky because every body thinks that ..beside i read somewhere that the petstores removes there worst stinky gland or something before they gofor sale ....but that im not sure if its true or not
I dread the days that I have to give my ferret a bath... so he usually only gets one if he gets into something too dirty. He HATES baths. HATE HATE HATE HATES THEM!
@pengi lol Buttons hates them too, when she was really young she would get so scared that she would poop, poor baby, but now she just swims around and tries to get out, raja on the other hand loves em :)
@madmikerex no its not, i asked their vet what i should use and she recommended sensitive skin hypoallergenic shampoo for dogs, cats, or ferrets. So i usually use my dogs but also my cats one. The bubbles isn't just any soup, its for animals and they are fine. i only bathe them if they get into a mess of some sort.
@madmikerex Not if its Ferret bath wash, preferably "No Tears." kind. :] Normal soap can dry out their skin and burn their eyes. Ferret soap is safe if accidentally consumed. :P
@madmikerex depends on what kinda of soap it is. I gave my ferret baths with a certain dog shampoo and it worked pretty well. Just gotta make sure its an alright kind and want dry them out too much.
@Vannius6 Not even that it has to be either Ferret specific shampoo or baby shampoo. Their skin is extremely sensitive and anything to strong can actually endanger them, even w/o contact with their eyes.
I didn't know it was safe for ferrets to be in soap suds for too long(they may try to eat it and get sick?)

ScheissEinloggen 1 month ago
@ScheissEinloggen so my ferrets need the fat/talc in their hair. they live in a group, so they clean each other. they are always frightened when they have to take a shower, so i only do it if i have to (for an operation or whatever).Yes, it isn't bad for they bodies (if they live inside the house) but it's bad for their happiness. so i don't do it. if they smell to much for you, take them in a big cage in your garden. ok, i hope someone could understand my german-english =) bye

Hey! She only thinks about the animals, and takes really good care of them. Every ferret is different and likes different things so stfu!

Hey guys maybe she didn't know? Don't be an ass and call her selfish :p
xxfunnyman1xx 1 month ago 2
@xxfunnyman1xx First, you should get information about the animal you buy. And ferrets don't wash themselfes in nature. so why should they get washed in capture? where it's much cleaner than in nature? don't treat animals like humans. i've you love showers, go wash yourself.
ScheissEinloggen 1 month ago

@GonG108 u NEED to bathe ur ferret, but I think its ridiculous wen ppl put boots and crap on their dogs or cats, but I am getting a jacket foe my ferrets penny and allie, just for winter. ;)
kittyfan01 2 months ago
my ferret really loves his bath too ^_^ but you just got to be careful that you don't bath then too much, or use too much soap in the water. ferret's skin is sensitive whitch is why they usually have that little musk to them, as it comes from their skin glands whitch produce more oils to combat the dry skin they get after they bathe, whitch is also why after a bath their musk might be a little stronger. just sayin cuz some dont know, and i luv yer ferrets! they're so cute! ^_^

jui what are you doing don t you know that it can seriosly harm the ferret when you put soap into the water or shampoo these are animals , it´s realy sceary how the ppl in america try to make humans out of pets , love is a nice thing but think about it if you really love your pet or is it more another desire you try to compensate, pls think about it these are living beings no toys, iam sure you love your ferret but why not read a book how to tread them the best way

were can i get one from online and can they live free like cats
Rollingag1421 2 months ago
@Rollingag1421 not sure where to get one online as it depends on country obviously but to answer the second question:
yes and no.
you dont have to keep them in a cage, mine where housepets, they had a cage but only in so far as it was their own personal space, the cage never got locked and they were allowed out all day so they're fine to just leave to run round the house, they normally just go to sleep when you're not there anyway.
ourorboros2 2 months ago
@Rollingag1421
that being said, you cant let them go outside by themselves, ferrets tend to wander and can get lost very easily not to mention depending on where you live there might be dangers like dogs and othersuch.
also, you need make sure your house is ferret proof if you let them roam freely, that means nothing they could get inside to hurt themselves whether its a small hole in a wall or even reclining furniture, ferrets get into everything.

From my experience, best way to bath them is with dry pet shampoo. Its basically a white powder which you rub into their fur. Can be a little messy though, with it being a powder and with ferrets being very energetic and wriggly. :p

Furthermore, if you and others don't like the scent ferrets give off tough. Its part of them, they all have their own unique scent. Its a part of them as much as legs are to dogs, cats and anything else! Don't bother getting a ferret if you don't like it!
omgitsyoubaby 3 months ago
you're kidding me right? You HAVE to be kidding me? Not only are you washing them in a bath, you're using bubbles/soaps? You're such a fool, seriously. You obviously don't know how to care for ferrets, why do you own one? Have you not heard of the oils they produce? The soaps destroy that oil leaving their skin open to infections and skin problems. The top layers of fur only should be washed, and their feet (prone to getting mess on them). You shouldnt use any type of "animal safe" soaps, ever.
omgitsyoubaby 3 months ago
@omgitsyoubaby chill out! i know what I'm doing, i would never hurt my babies. I got vet recommendation for the shampoo and the bubbles are from the shampoo. I only bathe them if they get messy like once Buttons got into dirt and had dirt all over her body. I know about their oils and how they even smell stronger after a bath but it always calms down after a day or so.
ILoveMyFerret94 3 months ago
@omgitsyoubaby calm down & breathe. Unless you're trolling you really need to get your facts straight b4 attacking strangers.
1. bathing ferrets is ok. usually 1 to 2 times a year is sufficient.
2. some ferrets like to swim, some don't so filling a tub with a couple inches of water is ok.
3. bubbles are not great for ferrets (because they like to lick them and too much soap CAN make them sick) but as long as they're being watched they'll be ok.
bibliophilicwoman 3 months ago
@omgitsyoubaby Damn, way to be a dick. I'm sure that with how happy the darn thing looks, its not suffering at all.
wahttehfuk 2 months ago
@wahttehfuk It really doesnt look THAT happy, it tries to get out on occasion, furthermore washing ferrets with ANY kind of shampoo, "approved" or not, is bad. The oils that ferrets have on their skin protect it from lice, infections and dirt. There is only a slight smell of honey, but thats really not bad. Infact if you bathe ferrets in water with or without shampoo, their body loses the essential oils and actually produces MORE oil, thus increasing the honey like smell

@Megan23242526 In Australia, at a rescue they are $150 each, 260 for a pair. Its not about how much they cost to buy what matter is to ask yourself if you will be able to afford food, kitty litter and time.

arhurlova 2 months ago
@Megan23242526 ADOPT pets! NEVER EVER buy them! Adopting them can be free sometimes, too, like my two were! I got the cage, food, everything, had lots of shampoos and smell-goods that came with it because the owner couldn't keep them anymore. But never ever buy from pet stores of any kind! Look up "puppy mills" (or any animal mill/farm) or ask me more about it. Animals are tortured every day, bred helplessly for money. Never buy! Always adopt!

TasharhB 3 months ago
Yes they really stink if you dont take care of them. If you have farrets they are alot of work, but they are also ALOT of fun if you have not already found out. I wash my farrets once every two weeks, their cage and everything in it once a week, clean their little box at leat once a day. I have them on a sechedule. I had to make one. Now I have had mine for two years...LOVE them. I also have a few other animals, and they all play with each other....Its Awsome!
WarWinner001 3 months ago 6
@WarWinner001 ferrets shouldnt be bathed more than once a month. doing it more strips their coat from natural oils. good sechedule on the rest tho.
ninarodders 2 months ago
@PrincessEbony321 the smell only gets stronger for a day or so, as long as you don't put ur nose into their fur you shouldn't notice it, but honestly i love the smell of my ferrets :) each ferret has a unique sent tho.

@madmikerex They make ferret-safe soap, but you're only supposed to use it once every three months or less
pengi 3 months ago
@pengi Oh, ok
madmikerex 3 months ago
@madmikerex no its not, i asked their vet what i should use and she recommended sensitive skin hypoallergenic shampoo for dogs, cats, or ferrets. So i usually use my dogs but also my cats one. The bubbles isn't just any soup, its for animals and they are fine. i only bathe them if they get into a mess of some sort.
ILoveMyFerret94 3 months ago
@madmikerex, they make special shampoos for them. "tearless". I use baby shampoo.
