Immigrants do the work that americans won't do for low wages. After a large chicken plant was raided (in georgia, i think it was) the company raised the hourly rate by one dollar and the positions started to be filled by americans.

I also remember reading about a meat processing plant that used to pay americans $20 per hour till the company was bought out and the new owners started using illegal immigrants and the wages dropped to about $8 per hour.

What U.S. policies have adversly affected Mexico? You are just repeating the standard leftist line (ie. that the U.S. is to blame).

Mexico is corrupt because for the past 90 years it has been run by a super corrupt oligarchy.

NAFTA benefitted Mexico far more than the USA. Last year our trade deficit w/ Mexico was 73 billion dollars, that's to Mexico's advantage, not ours. U.S. factories close and move to Mexico, not the other way around.

I think you have to take the analysis down a bit in scale- what does it mean to "benefit Mexico"? The wealth gap increased significantly after NAFTA, both here and abroad. You're right, NAFTA primarily benefits the elite of both countries. But you can't deny the fact that factories close in the U.S. and move to Mexico (never the reverse). And those jobs are considered damn good jobs by Mexican standards. I've been to Mexico 9 times and I talk to the people there.

Mexicans need to join EZLN and help fight NAFTA. Remember, the Mexican gov't pushed hard for NAFTA and signed it, thus Mexicans should take their complaints to Mexico City.

Lots of U.S. companies have closed factories here and moved to Mexico (GM, Ford, to name just two). Those are considered very good jobs in Mexico (ie. working for GM or Ford).

NAFTA did hurt some Mexican farmers but not to the tune of 15 million which is how many Mexican illegals are here. And in this case, Mexicans should complain to THEIR gov't since Carlos Salinas, Prez. of Mexico in '94, pushed hard for NAFTA and signed it.
