@Upnorth789 The general rule that works 90% of the time is that Canada/Greenland = Inuit. Alaska/Russia = Eskimo, with some areas in North Alaska being Inuit as well. Also there are North American circumpolar peoples that are separate and shouldn't be referred to as either, such as the Aleuts and Chukchi in the Alaska/Russia Region.
@DarkSkysify Yes, there is a large population in Canada and Greenland. In fact, they were given their own territory of Canada called Nunavut which was secede from Northwest Territories, while Greenland has semi-autonomous rule. While the Inupiat in Alaska (US) / Yukon (CA) would technically be Inuit, Yupik and Inupiat are legally and usually preferably referred to as Eskimo. Same with Russian Yupiks. While genetically related, the easy rule to follow is CAN/GRE = Inuit , US/RUS = Eskimo.
@bashildy thats great to know, yea they should be given a great land, im part Yakutian from sakha far east russia, and proud to be one, we also have a great big land in yakutsk, and they have similar ways of living like eskimos of alaska, except our origin is from genghis khan, mongols
@DarkSkysify Ah, thanks for your reply. I know very little about Far East Russia. Are you living in the Sakha Republic ( or do they call it Yakutia now )?, I know there was redistricting after the Soviet collapse but the region doesn't get any coverage here. I really only know a little about Alaska and Nunavut, and even less with Russia, Yukon/Northwest Territories Canada, and Greenland. Whats the primary language used, and are there any great foods? Do you hunt at all?
@bashildy Yup'iks and Inupiaqs are very different in language. I am both, and my mother and father cannot understand each other at all. Kinda like speaking Japanese and Chinese to one another. Some people here dont like being called Eskimo. But most people dont understand what a Yup'ik or Inupiaq is so I just say Eskimo to simplify it. But according to "Brother Bear" canadian inuits have totems and speak Yup'ik, lmao. Just thought that was funny.
@Jenniebeans1 no im not fuckkinggggggggggggggggggggggggg kidding , why in the hell do you message me like that, be nice girl, im only asking, im from yakutsk and i give respect to these snow tribe
@stewiedg97 No need to be antagonistic. DarkSkysify is from Sakha which I doubt most people here know about their culture and heritage. I uploaded my videos of Iglulik in order to inform people, under the assumption that many would not even know their culture existed let alone the beautiful nuances of their arts.
we are soooooo lucky as Canadians to have so much underlying Canadian culture espically with our first nations and inuit......then add on our immigated nations....I am so proud to call myself Canadain, and i am so thankful to Alice for those loevly 1 minute piece....one day i will get up to Nunavut..
After seeing the movie "snow walker" I totally want to hook up with an eskimo/Inuit girl

@bashildy sure, but my point was, many Inuit (in Canada) refer to themselves as Eskimos, its not always an offensive term to them.
