@talokermasti very sorry to say you're wrong. This is definitely not darbari. I don't know how raag bageshwari is, so i won't be able to comment. But that raag definitely exists!
Lata is the greatest filmi singer of the post-independence era, excluding KL Saigal, Kanan Devi, Amirbai Karnataki, Nurjehan of the pre-independence era.
This song is based on Rag-Bageshwari Kanara, beautifully composed by one of the all time greatest music directors of Bollywood --madan Mohan
and equally beautifully sung by Lata in her typical melodious voice and style (with beautiful murakis, Jhatkas and volume/tonal modulation of Lata typically depicted in this song--one of the all time best songs of Lata) by Lata.
@musiman0124 i went through ur channel U R GREAT U r fond of OLD song which are GEMZ in real sense and i am PAKISTANI and diehard fan MADAN MAHAAAAN 03332604292
Agree with nnmenon. I am also like u and I always give names of Radas wherever possible. There r few more songs in this Raag Kafi e.g. Kase kahoon mainki baat from Dhoo. ka phool by Sudha Malhotra and Ghayal hiraniya mai ban ban dolu from old Munimji and Gori ke mukh Nandlal from Godan Even Priye praneshwari is also in Raag Kafi I believe.
Thank you sir, if all fans like you share their knowledge the pleasure of hearing such pieces will surely be enhanced Now I know my two favourites this piece and Meri Yaad mein are of the same family
You are divinely blessed to have this knowledge ..thank you for sharing it with me..I am slowly picking up reflections of these gems while jewellers like yourgoodself caress and fondle them lovingly in your hands
Thank you for your kind remarks, but there are people here who know much more. I know a little bit here and there.
There used to be a programme at 7.30 am on vividh bharati called sangit sarita which would play a film song, identify its raag and "pakad" and then play some classical piece in it. I picked up most of my stuff there. Do check if it is still on.
Great yaar, really i love the man who uploaded this song...there is no ever singer like Lata. My lot of love for lata and all her companions of that time....
Which is why I wonder about those who say Lata still sings as beautifully as ever - can't the HEAR the sweet, mellow, liquid notes of those songs? I think Aandhi was when she should have stopped.
A group of young singers in Pune sometimes puts up a performance of old film songs. When they did a Madan Mohan show, for this song, the crowd would not let the fabulous young singer go -she had to repeat the song, and they shouted 'once more!" for the initial alaap, again and again. What a tribute to the great Madan Mohan and Lata ji!
What is the name of the film? It is a beautiful song sung by Lataji. UNFORGETTABLE INDEED!
Can you tell me how to upload VHS songs onto YouTube. I had collected lots of Golden Greats while I was in Saudi Arabia during 1982 to 1988 and they are of no use to me. I shall give the VHS casettes free to anyone who promises to upload them onto YouTube.
dilij 1 ji .Thank you so much for this song. The aalap itself is so beautiful it tkes me some time before i can listen to the song itself! So many of us owe so much to quite a few of you who upload such lovely songs.
What a lovely song: the melody, the voice, and the accompaniment come together in such a beautiful manner that you get more listening pleasure each time you play it.
In 1967, her Silver Jubilee Year as a singer in the movie industry, Lataji made public her own choice of her Ten Best. 'Bairan Nee.nd Na Aaye' was one of them. There have been many lists of Lataji's 'Best' subsequently but that Original List is the Gold Standard against which all other choices have to be measured. Many tkx for uploading this gem, dilij1.
magical combination of lata &m.mohan.
i have not seen movie but the song is so perfect.

Actually, this song is based on raag Kafi which also happens to be a thaat, i.e., a few raags are clustered under this.

If we go in further detail 'ghayal hiraniya' from 'munumji' is based on raga Shahana of Kafi thaat.
