This song is based on Rag-Bageshwari Kanara, beautifully composed by one of the all time greatest music directors of Bollywood --madan Mohan

and equally beautifully sung by Lata in her typical melodious voice and style (with beautiful murakis, Jhatkas and volume/tonal modulation of Lata typically depicted in this song--one of the all time best songs of Lata) by Lata.

Agree with nnmenon. I am also like u and I always give names of Radas wherever possible. There r few more songs in this Raag Kafi e.g. Kase kahoon mainki baat from Dhoo. ka phool by Sudha Malhotra and Ghayal hiraniya mai ban ban dolu from old Munimji and Gori ke mukh Nandlal from Godan Even Priye praneshwari is also in Raag Kafi I believe.

If we go in further detail 'ghayal hiraniya' from 'munumji' is based on raga  Shahana of Kafi thaat.

No that is based on raag Jaunpuri . It is from a different "That" or family, the Asavari that which includes Darbari kanada (o duniya ke rakhwaale)

Thank you for your kind remarks, but there are people here who know much more. I know a little bit here and there.

There used to be a programme at 7.30 am on vividh bharati called sangit sarita which would play a film song, identify its raag and "pakad" and then play some classical piece in it. I picked up most of my stuff there. Do check if it is still on.

A group of young singers in Pune sometimes puts up a performance of old film songs. When they did a Madan Mohan show, for this song, the crowd would not let the fabulous young singer go -she had to repeat the song, and they shouted 'once more!" for the initial alaap, again and again. What a tribute to the great Madan Mohan and Lata ji!

In 1967, her Silver Jubilee Year as a singer in the movie industry, Lataji made public her own choice of her Ten Best. 'Bairan Nee.nd Na Aaye' was one of them.
