When you said "welcoming community" I remeber that today a friend told me that he just install his first linux distribution on a pc (a modification of Ubuntu for Ace One). I just welcoming he with a hug and a "welcome to free software community", and he smile and thanks me.
That's why I use linux: I am free to welcome my very own friends to my community. I am free to know, to think and, the most important, to be.
Yeah, I am totally with you on that. That's also one of the reasons, I still use other OSs. Emulation isn't the real deal. Native games is what we need.
@FusionNinjin Linux isn't an operating system; it's a kernel. The operating system is referred to as a "distribution" that uses the Linux kernel, such as Ubuntu, Fedora, et cetera.
@FusionNinjin I dont know about that. commercial games are okay, I just find them rather boaring. and to add insult to injury i dont feel like purchasing a piece of software and finding it to be a real turd or having to pay for DLC or for the privilege to play with others on-line, let alone be shackled by oppressive DRM/content management like STEAM. Its a novel idea concerning the steam service. but give me a break.
WOW nice. I am trying to get into linux. I just installed Yellow Dog Linux 6.1 on my PlayStation 3 and now i am trying to figure it out. I really could use some help with installing Flash. Edgy, do u feel like traveling to the USA for a day haha
I have installed linux on my PS3 (I also have it on my deskop and laptop) and the PS3 is a horrible place to begin using linux for 3 major reasons:
1. it is powerpc based most computers have an intel based processor and some things wont work on powerpc, like (adobe) flash, gnach works but only slightly
2. it has 256 megs of ram this means heavy applications bog everything down.
3. it has no gfx accelration, sony blocked access to the graphics card
Linux is frustrating >:(

Well said.

The biggest reason i use Linux is that I'm not prepared to pay for my OS, and I'm not prepared to support pirate software.
Having a OS free of charge that still gives me all i want and need to for my everyday life is the reason i use Linux.
And on another lvl, i kinda like the rather anarcistic structure of the open source world. Take what you want and do what you want, and share.

Plenty of games are native to Linux, ID makes many good games for Windows then ports them to Linux.

I was once a Windows user. Now I use Ubuntu Linux 100% of the time. It is a truly magnificent OS.
