I agree with the previous posters that the new Vostros (both laptops and desktops) are vastly inferior compared to the older ones. Dell made the Vostro line from what used to be great, to horrible now.

The worst laptop I've seen so far - thin and wobbly plastic, everything flexing. Mine had a borked USB port and a bent base. Google "Dell DPC latency" and learn that they have serious design flaws as well, you can't even listen to music with them when the WLAN is on and Dell keeps on lying about that and tells you to turn off the WLAN. The fan is annoying too. Support totally screwed up as well. Not worth the money.

4 USB ports at the front=cables out the side front in the way of mouse

No opening catch.Need both hands to open whilst holding base

No mute control

Keyboard has / & \ on the right & is springy--you thump the keys & waste time re-typing

Finger reader is wrong for business users as they then forget login passwords-so central IT guys who need control access need to reset

Speaker grills are large but the hole is tiny=cheap & tinny sound

CD drive has no emergency pinhole to eject

I have many account and the fact to login everyday is annoying and a waste of time. I believe that you just have to use the fingerprint reader and it's done. Considering i'm not really sure about that ..

Looks way better, but still no dvi or hdmi, they eliminated the s-video, and no more 8600m GT option on the 15" model. Although I'll admit, the 13" model, slot drive, and glossy black are hella sexy. The price also increased a little bit, but I imagine it will come back down. Hmm, I just bought a Vostro 1400, and at first I thought "DAM A 13" MODEL, F#CK!" but after seeing it doesn't have an s-video out, I was kinda glad I got mine when I did.
