i always found this song touching, especiallythe first time's i heard it because i didn;t hear the lyric's good i heard now I have come to cut you down in stead of THEY
Cat was one of the most (pardon the pun) righteous cats who ever came down the pike. Was he the equal of the Beatles as a songwriter? Apples and oranges question. They both wrote in very different styles but he was absolutely great in his prime. No one like him before or after. Kind of like . . . The Beatles. ;-)
I listen to all his music in the 70's and 80's and must say was very relaxing, but lets face it when you listen to the Cat he touches your heart. Lennon, McCartney and the other Beatles the one your listening to at the time is the one that touches your heart. It's not a question of who is best, they are all the best.
Father and son,sad lisa, lady d'arbanville, trouble, peace train ,the first cut is deepest, heaven, miles from nowhere,oh very young,o'caritas.....so many excelent songs composed by cat stevens. No doubt is a very very great songwriter and performer.
I watched this live also...age 15! ... taped this concert with a cassette recorder plugged into my B&W little TV set - still have the tape! This version is perfect - the album version was way over-produced and lost much of the magic... still love his music!
lol...I did...and he's my favorite still today. Well, actually I grew up in the 70's. Can't imagine growing up without hearing his music...my parents loved him.
i hate it when the cameraman does not capture his face on the best parts of the song! like here, they show his hand on the part where he sings "and if my mind breaks up in all so many ways..."
you can see a lot of feelings and emotions on his face when he sings!
I, too watched this concert Live that night, and taped it on cassette. I was 12 years old, and except for seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show some years earlier, this is only other musical event I have ever seen to have that great an effect on my musical experiences. I never thought I would see any of this concert again. Thank you.
I remember watching this as well....I'd actually audio recorded it with my little cassette recorder....I believe that Dr. John covered Cat's Pop Star and Linda Ronstadt covered The First Cut is the Deepest on the show....Brings back memories....What a treasure to have these posted!
as long as there are lips to be kissed, love will never die or say bye as my eye will all ways blink and wink wink and skate my lips over lips to slide my lips against and steal a kiss for it is not a crime . 4 eye am kiss me dove there is no place to hide. kissmass dove kissmet
I knew all his songs backwards and forwards. One of the two times my sister was nice to me she took me to a Cat concert. The other time she took me to see Moody Blues. I used to bongo board to their music.
Cat Stevens was a prolific singer/songwriter,his songs were a match for anything Lennon & McCartney wrote, his back catalogue of wonderful songs are inspiring! and today are reaching new young audience's all the time.
I feel the same as Rolling Stones Mag when they said Cat STevens was quite possibly the greatest to come out of Britain .. I feel that way .. then the Beatles and then Bowie! xoxox
God He let God work thru him to write such orchestrations and and lyrics.. clearly Divine Nature at work here !! Love ya CAt/Yusuf
Why does ABC not release the full vid. of this In Concert? I was there. Yeah, I'm old... I want this as a keeper. What an event this was back then! How did you get this???
P.S. on the 2nd thought... I've just read your comment on Julian's vid, and even he doesn't have The Boy from this gig... looks like it's not available after all.
thanks a lot for all these rare ABC 1973 goodies; one request tho - please post "The Boy with the Moon & Star on his Head" from this gig, I only have it on audio, the only live version available of this great song.
my redwood tree, you sheltered me,
from words I hear, now worlds I see in softly falling leaves
they cut you down, and the forest takes me back...

yes, this cat turned Muslim.. How great thou art I mean good for him old chap.
He threw it all away ! monetary gain for others to reap what he sowed. For this his
wisdom and beliefs.Cat Stevens is the king of trees no One can ever bring him down.
He is my brother and your brother as well. not like those greedy [ A ] AMERICAN I-CAN- politicians who just take it all for themselves-selfish .
Not was prolific singer songwriter poet STILL is the cat
No religion here too many . Music is the way.
