Human beings have a moral responsibility to care for the creatures that share the earth with us, by ensuring they are not tortured, maimed or senselessly killed by the cruel or mentally deranged. Though I could do without the politics, most of the folks that support animal rights have compassion and the foresight that allows them to see that survival of all species, including our own, depends on the more advanced protecting those without the power to protect themselves.

Being part of the human progressive movement only takes kindness and the time to stop and help a fellow living creature that is hurt or in danger.  It also takes teaching children about compassion and kindness. Cruel acts are wired into a young brain and become a "normal" part of behavior without intervention. Cruelly to animals translates to humans and ultimately to themselves. A better world is compassionate, tolerant and educated.
