Jeez that looks like a really bad fall......but not as bad as the person that had to be airlifted..horse back riding is sure dangerous but i still love it!
Ralph Hill has not "since recovered". He still cannot talk correctly because of this accident. For you to have that scene in your little video for "entertainment" is just crude and disrespectful. The doctors didn't know that he would ever be able to WALK again- let alone talk, teach, or ride. That's ridiculous..
yeah, i agree, if you and the horse are prepared, you'll be fined. theyre are accidents, but normally the really bad ones are avoided by a well prepared team. there is a point of pushing thats dangerous, pushing you and your horse is good, but not to the point of danger.
i love how spunky these horses are...it takes a horse with spirit for the eventing sports and sometimes i guess we really need to focus on chanelling the energy! beautiful place tho!
it was really bad accident. i dont kno all the details but i think the horse fell on top of the rider after the jump and the rider was really badly injured and the horse i believe had to be put down because of a broken leg or neck.
None of the horses in this video were injured to the point of euthanasia. If you are talking about the fall at 1:25, the horse did fall on the rider but got up and went back to the barn. The rider was critically hurt but has since recovered.
Ralph Hill had an accident at one of the corner jumps. He sustained some serious injuries but has since fully recovered. Last I heard he is back in the saddle.
I've tried showing at poplar place, it's not an easy place to show. My last horse was a national jr show jumper and he couldn't complete a poplar x-c course
we competed at level 5 jumpers and we had problems schooling over their beginner novice jumps, even if we did them one at a time, much less do the whole course. Poplar Place is not an easy place to show
Still, goldenluckycharm is right----cross country is TOTALLY DIFFERENT. it doesnt matter how good ur horse is at statium----ur horse knows tht the jumps will fall apart. XC jumps r solid so they present a completely different challenge 2 the horse. and tryin 2 make a horse do an entire XC course if he never jumped anything solid b4 is insane.
yea, except that we evented at novice level for 2 years before competing in jumpers, and we boarded at a ton of eventing barns and schooled prelim at local shows. We showed at big bear and tyson and foxberry and he never had a problem with a cross country course before Poplar.
i really must apologize. im on poplars website now and there XC is really hard! some of there novice stuff looks like it should b training level! it must have been a great oppertunity 2 go school there.
My trainer is in this...the horse getting stuck half way over. Its a good thing he didn't get hurt worse than some scratches. Go look at the boat though it has some battle wounds.
yeah, it's in Georgia. There's about 40,000 people that event in the U.S. It's mainly popular in the North East and there's quite a few people the event int the South East as well.
on here i see so many affiliated level cross country courses and wish it was more like that here. to practise affiliated hieght jumps many riders have to travel far
It was a rotational fall on a corner jump. Ralph Hill sustained a traumatic brain injury, broken wrist, humerus, and femur. It was a horrific fall but he's recovered very well and has even started riding again.
Great vid. Love the ones of Marjolein and Werner, they look like they're having so much fun. I especially love watching Werner on XC, you can tell it's his love...along with her. LOL
so i guess you think it was funny when ralph hill fell off at the corners and had to be airlifted away? or when darren chiacchia fell off at redhills and collapsed his lungs? and yeah i would say my fall was a little jig, not the 4 foot drop that my horse almost made 6ft... and yes its so funny when the horse runs away, increasing the possiblity of ripping off a shoe or pulling a tendon
@CaitlinBlueSterling clearly you aren't an eventer...if you were you would know that everyone has a bad day and that like mkmallory said when they run away it's not funny at all, its dangerous to the horse and other people around.
The shows at Poplar Place Farm couldn't be done without all their wonderful volunteers who give their time and effort. It's a great way to see all the top riders/horses in the country and the international riders. I was able to watch Karen O'Connor and Teddy when I was the Jump Crew manager.
Thanks. the songs for this video are Close your Eyes and These Dreams. for the other video the are the Pieces and Figure me Out. Yeah they've actually played alongside Saosin before and a few other bands like 30 Seconds to Mars and The Used. They're really awesome so check em out! Thanks again.
Cool.. Thanks! I asked Mary Kate about them and she told me to check them out on MySpace.. They are so awesome! Glad you were able to introduce me to them.. And thats so sweet that they played with Saosin before.. Cool stuff..
ah awesome!!!! love this. :) rocky made it into it to! =D haha, i wish that clip of tully would have made it into here. do you have the seperate file you could send to me through email or something?
Well he sustained a traumatic head injury, a broken wrist, humerus, and compound femur fracture. he was in the hospital for a long time but has recovered although i'm not sure if hes riding or teaching yet. it was a horrific accident and we're just glad he's ok now.
With the head injury I doubt he remebers the accident. And honestly I think the head injury would be the worst of it. I am hoping to go up (I am sadly having to get rid of my horses) and volunteer at the XC course in Tryon NC! I REALLy hope nothing like this ever happens. I wish him luck and again AWESOME vid!
Thanks. I'm sorry to hear about your horses. that must be rough. Volunteering is awesome. We've never really experienced anything too bad except for Ralphs' fall so I'm sure everything will be fine for you so good luck and have fun.
Its not bad or not as bad as I thought I know that there both great horses with a awesome future and though its in a way killing me there also going to make me very proud. I kind of hope thta my first time volunteering is free of anything bad!
