Dubstep is characterized by heavily distorted and resonated basslines, and hard half-step drum patterns. The original version of strobe uses complexed synth lead melodies and a 4/4 dance drum pattern. Dubstep has more in common with hip-hop and dub-reggae which is actually where the structure evolved.
