I live in Windcrest/San Antonio and last year while I was eating lunch at school the tornado sirens were going off repeatedly but the sky was clear so no one reacted and everyone stayed outside. But that same week there was horrible storms power was out everywhere and they sent everyone home from work early and there was trees down everywhere including on top of my house.

I live within a block of a school and within a stone's throw of a fire station and am a stay at home mom, so you think if there were sirens, I'd have heard them. Another reason is most areas have limestone under the soil which would be costly to dig a hold deep enough for a basement.

A bunch of structural damage to fences, roofs, street signs, stop lights in my area due to high winds. Further west where there was the confirmed tornado there was a little bit more damage.

The other day there was a storm much more severe, golf ball sized hail damaged my roof, rain actually hurt when it hit i got a bruise from it the wind was almost hitting 150 and the lightning and thunder didnt even stop luckily only few funnel clouds were spotted and were out in fields.
i can't believe it took them that long to go off... transformers exploding and winds comin from all directions... then they go off!! i think the sirens add to the atmosphere of tornados.. makes it seem that much more eerie

i live in iowa and a ef1 tornado touched down on the north corner of my town, i didnt here the sirens at all during the storm, the next day it started clouding up and for some stupid reason the city decided to do theyre 9 o clock sirens test. some people are just morons
@MMWarrior23 yes, I'm in the DFW area, and there was a horrible storm that no one could get video of. Down the street where my fiance works, a tornado formed in his parking lot, he couldn't get video b/c of the winds, and I heard there were 6 tornadoes (one being behind my apartments) that touched and tons of other rotations...tornado sirens were going off every 5 mins or so for 2 hours, with softball sized hail. :\ I haven't been able to find any video, just my luck. :\
@kyzziistar I actually did get video, if you go to my videos, it'll be the one names Hail Storm, wasn't able to get any pictures/video of the tornadoes because I couldn't get in any type of position. This video is just east of Grapevine and the two main rotation areas went north and south of my location by a few miles. The video is some of the hail affiliated with the storm. About 2" hail is what fell where I was at, the more severe part of the hail core went south by a mile or so.
@free2flyism Because I have a passions for these storms, haha. The tornado wasn't on the ground at this time, it touched down further west of my location but the storm still had the possibility of producing one...why the sirens went off.
@tornadogirl10 That's actually a fairly small school for the area, there are like a dozen elementary schools about this size in Mckinney, with several middle schools a little bit bigger, then a few high schools that about about 1000 kids each. But Mckinney also has like 135,000 people living here. haha
That was not a "Transformer" blow it was a "Power Flash" from high winds hitting the power lines.If it was a trasnformer blow it would be blue flashes in the same spot one after another for a while.
@TheCSXfan12 Hate to burst your significantly large bubble, but there actually aren't any power lines within several miles in that direction (all underground due to neighborhoods), there is however a large electrical area (not sure what they are called) about a mile away that had received quite a bit of damage, that's what you are seeing.
@007007mick I'm assuming you mean for storm chasing? I do when under the right conditions. I use to go out quite a bit but with gas being so high at the moment, I only tend to go out on more severe days and only to Oklahoma area (possibly to the Kansas border if the weather is right).
I don't know about you. But I live in Collin County, and our Sirens were NOT like that. Sirens in Texas do not speak to you and tell you to get under shelter. Esepcially those in Collin and Denton County. This siren was most likely fake. :/

Well,The siren went off just as I passed by it and made me jump pale white! I ran home fast as I could with 2 miles to go and the clouds were closing in. Scariest run of my life.

That's the weirdest Tornado siren I ever heard. I thought it was a Bugs Bunny Cartoon. But yours gets some major cool points because of that creepy voice indicating a tornado warning. That was 2 cool! Never heard that before. Here in MS they sound like WW2 Air Raid Sirens...no creepy voice.

Watching a storm form is so fascinating... Then it turns out to be harmful in which you run as if your life depends on it, because it does. I live in California, the last time we had a tornado warning and an actual tornado was May in like '08 or '09, I think. And a couple months back we had a tornado watch, but nothing ever developed, the clouds were pretty light and kept moving right over us, so yup. I've never seen a tornado personally, but we have had pretty bad storms before.

That was not a "Transformer" blow it was a "Power Flash" from high winds hitting the power lines.If it was a trasnformer blow it would be blue flashes in the same spot one after another for a while.

@TheCSXfan12 Hate to burst your significantly large bubble, but there actually aren't any power lines within several miles in that direction (all underground due to neighborhoods), there is however a large electrical area (not sure what they are called) about a mile away that had received quite a bit of damage, that's what you are seeing.

@007007mick I'm assuming you mean for storm chasing? I do when under the right conditions. I use to go out quite a bit but with gas being so high at the moment, I only tend to go out on more severe days and only to Oklahoma area (possibly to the Kansas border if the weather is right).

I don't know about you. But I live in Collin County, and our Sirens were NOT like that. Sirens in Texas do not speak to you and tell you to get under shelter. Esepcially those in Collin and Denton County. This siren was most likely fake. :/

@tornadogirl10 I certainly felt a rush one evening a few weeks ago. I was on another one of my daily jogs when the sky was dark orange with mammatus everywhere. No one was around lol so passing cars thought I was dumb and oblivious telling me if I wanted a ride. I shrugged it off as another part of Texas life. Well,The siren went off just as I passed by it and made me jump pale white! I ran home fast as I could with 2 miles to go and the clouds were closing in. Scariest run of my life.

That's the weirdest Tornado siren I ever heard. I thought it was a Bugs Bunny Cartoon. But yours gets some major cool points because of that creepy voice indicating a tornado warning. That was 2 cool! Never heard that before. Here in MS they sound like WW2 Air Raid Sirens...no creepy voice.

How in the hell is that a Tornado Siren. I worry about the company that is producing sirens that sound like that. It almost sounds like EMS or Fire and Rescue vehicles.

Watching a storm form is so fascinating... Then it turns out to be harmful in which you run as if your life depends on it, because it does. I live in California, the last time we had a tornado warning and an actual tornado was May in like '08 or '09, I think. And a couple months back we had a tornado watch, but nothing ever developed, the clouds were pretty light and kept moving right over us, so yup. I've never seen a tornado personally, but we have had pretty bad storms before.
