  • Does anyone else feel that the system just doesn't work? I am unashamedly leftist in my outlook, but how can anyone argue that this system of governance and economy is actually sustainable. It is fixated with year on year growth(profits). We will in all likelihood end with Fine Gael forming some part of the next government and insisting on privatizing key public assets. This is just an endorsement of a failed system.

  • The Sky reporters later claimed that the Irish attitude to the IMF bailout was being represented by the fact that they were interviewing a member of an opposition party. However the man that they were interviewing was Kieran O'Donnell TD from the Fine Gael party who are supporters of the IMF bailout!

Typical Sky wankers, they only let you see the opinions of the people that they agree with.

  • She deserves a medal, the country needs people like her while everyone else is engrossed with x-factor, the cant see whats happening around them

    WELL DONE MISS!

AND THANKYOU ON BEHALF OF ABOUT 60% OF US WHO CAN SEE PAST THE IMF and what they will do to this country in 5 years

  • How sad , rip

  • go on Kieran!! it does show a strength of feeling in dublin alright!!

  • wow play play to o'donnell for keeping his nerve with the anti-IMF behind you

  • fuck sky news, scumbags

  • good on ya. sky news is a muppet mouthpiece for the bankers. Same here with the bbc.

  • She will prob be fined For Littering now??

  • @Brendan5656 LOL.yeah that wouldnt surprise me in the least :)

  • @vinnyflintoff: i quite agree with your comments; the light touch regs on the banks drove the situation where this country was flooded with cheap credit; the minister of finance at the time, Brian Cowen, should not only regulated the banks, (the financial regulator has to answer to it too) and should also have realised that such cheap credit was dangerous - but he didn't - he doesn't have a financial background - that's why i don't trust him to negotiate for us now - he hasn't a clue!

  • well done A Bean Uasail,

    ZANU-FF

  • @RightWingTV The young lady in question is a leftist activist so I think she'd probably tell you to stick your Tea party up your arse! Where do ignorant US rightwingers get off on telling us how to run our country. Your beloved GW Bush screwed up the economy in yours with massive deficits caused by the illegal Iraq war and massive tax cuts for the undeserving rich. Go and play with your Sarah Palin dolly!

  • As a 19 year old I feel that things won't get better because everyone Is too busy moaning about what went wrong

How about ye get off your asses and do something instead of continuing being lazy and thinking someone will fix this mess the only ones who can fix this is us

  • @golfnet And at 19 years of age what exactly do you contribute to society that gives you the right to tell us what to do? It wasn't Irish citizens who caused this it was a combination of the Government, the banks, the property bubble and international markets. But what would a 19 year halfwit know about anything really...

  • @Kelbert88 it's not as if any older people in Ireland have done anything clever with regard to this economic mess. So why shouldn't a 19 y-o contribute?

  • @arff2003 I'm only 3 years older then yourself but at least I have the sense not to criticise the older generation of taxpayers who have carried this country on their backs for years only to see it all fall apart because of recklessness, greed and incompetence. The likes of you and me have no future in this country mate so prepare yourself for emigration. As soon as I get my degree I'm out of this kip for good

  • @Kelbert88 And where are you going to go?

  • Kitty ! ! !

  • WELL DONE to this lady - I so wish I was there!!!! Everything Brian Cowen says these days is a lie - he cannot be trusted to negotiate for this country. He messed up as finance minister and admitted it - so why should we trust him to negotiate for us now? The men of 1916 must be SPINNING in their graves.

    God help us all!!

It's time for a general election.

  • @mssheilamurphy I think it has more to do with the fact that the irish banks lent and borrowed money from other european banks to irish citizens with poor credit & even the irish government's sovereign debt rose quite significantly. Basically the markets want their money back. Irish banks & the Govt should have never borrowed money they couldn't pay back. The biggest mistake cowen made was to guarantee all private debt by the Govt.

  • @mssheilamurphy If ireland wasnt in the euro, it could have easily devalued its currency and hence lowered the debt. and still keep its national sovereignty well and truly intact. But unfortunately your in a unique situation where your in the euro, but you cant devalue your own currency. So your stuck, and unfortunately you have no choice but to hand over economic sovereignty. This isnt just brian cowen's fault, most irish people supported the euro project. so even they deserve the blame..Sorry

  • @vinnyflintoff : You got it in reverse ! If you devalue a country's currency, you INCREASE your debt. The debt would not be held in your own currency, but in whomever's currency you borrowed. Therefore if I borrow $100bn which converts to IEP£50bn. I then devalue my currency. My $100bn debt now becomes a IEP£80bn or 90bn.

  • @vinnyflintoff Also sovereignty of currency is fictitious for small countries - you are at the whim of what international currency markets (i.e. the same criminals who got us into this mess) are willing to pay for your currency. In Irelands currency crisis in 1991 (in the few small intervening years between 1986 and 1999 when our currency was independent), we tried to control the exchange rates and failed.

  • Excellent.
