It's the only way to distract Ganon- and, as you can see, he looks at it like he looks at nothing else and has a "why the hell is he fighting me with a fishing rod?" expression on his face. Before you say Nintendo wouldn't deliberately be quite humorous with such an epic game, think back to after "beating" Armogohma.
