@StopLiesSeeTruth got to correct you there, oxen have working the land since the beginning of agriculture for the last 10,000 years or so, horses have been commonly used for only the last two centuries or so. Regards.
Is this machine made in China and does anybody know how to uses horses to pull a machine. We are running out of oil soon and we'll need to go back to the old ways and actually work for our food instead of relying on Government Handouts and McDonalds.
Great video - wish I had a couple of oxen like these. I have heard that a lot of farmers now, especially in Asia, are reverting back to the traditional method of oxen vs. a tractor as petrol/diesal has become so expensive. However, there needs to be a revival of the old skills and training as many farmers have lost them.
Hitchmaster how about a video of oxen wearing collars to illustrate your point.Humans have used neck yokes on themselves for thousands of years by the way.
I thought I might ask for your help, but I think I'll stick to my friends who return my respect in kind. Keep in mind that people don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care. You are apparently only interested in feeding your ego by belittling others.
Dear Friends, Please keep your comments respectful. Hitchmasters made a legitimate observation of how they look to him. He works horses, so I don't think he is just reacting emotionally.
Not a Petard nor a fool, My observations are with a lot of experience and not from the soap box, a yoke is as caveman as rubbing 2 sticks together, now if I had no other choice and needed fire I would do so but a Match or lighter etc is much more efficient and practical
I get a lot of the "poor horse" comments in an average day. Supprised to hear fo much talk of "happy" when I saw no discomfort or lack of ability on the part of the oxen. Sorry for he PETArd comment.
Well, not being a farmer I seen horses pulling old plows and a old McCormic grain binder being demoed at the local farm fair BUT this is WHEW!!!! Those oxes or whatever are magnificent!!!!
I'm not sure how to tell if an ox is happy, but they are quite willing to work in the yoke. Sometimes they walk quickly to me when I appear with their equipment to go to work. If it was unpleasant, I would think they would avoid me.
Have you ever tried a collar? how can you tell how much more comfortable a collar is unless you have! I have seen many cattle come up to me even when they know its weening time, just for some grain, and you would think knowing whats up they would avoid every one
I have used three different kinds of collars, and none worked nearly as well as the yoke. I'm not claiming that collars are no good, but the yoke is an efficient and comfortable system for working cattle. I never take food into the yard with me, they are coming to me to go to work.
whether you take food to the field or feed in the barn after you catch makes no difference and I think you would say anything to prove your point like even having a collar, we on the other hand have shown the yoke to be uncomfortable compared to the collar anhd you get way more power for effort with a collar plus they can walk with there head up and not in the drit
nice oxen, although i stumbled here by mistake. you see, the vid doesnt have oxen in its name, so people who like oxen and look for videos on them can hardly find this. otherwise nice.
Hi Bluemoondiadochi, oxen appears in the tags along with other key words, so if you search oxen haying it comes right at the top. If you click more info in the information box, it shows the tags.

Then why make the statement.?
Oxen have been used for pulling almost as long as horses,. Across the developing world at the moment there are probably more oxen pulling than horses.
I take exception to the "poor oxen" statement.
The oxen look fine and well cared for to me.
So Dear Friend, I call it as I see it,
