  • i wish i was like cookie monster in this video not giving in to temptation

  • Cookie Monster is a Republican.....a Democrat cookie Monster would be Red

  • @gopconservative78

By that reasoning Elmo is a Democrat.

  • @Mrnestorh Elmo is a closet Communist

  • "dangerous narrow mountain pass" - sounds like Afghanistan.

  • Too bad these days cookie monster's parents by order of their attorney would proclaim the cookies be given to cookie monster because it's his right to receive without earning anything. Then he would twitter about it using extremely poor grammar.

  • this was my favorite clip as a kid,

  • You know there'a no connection this reminds me of Gordon Lightfoot's "Canadian RR Trilogy" because in spite being 2 entirely different songs. Because both show down in the middle.

Of course CRT was about biling a rail line across Canada.

    Totally different from this song.

    Odd

  • Sesame Street should just rerun all their old segments. The fact that they're old shouldn't be an issue. Whiz-bang, hyperkinetic animation isn't necessary to entertain children. Heck, kids can't have a ball with a cardboard box.

    Am I making any sense?

  • One of my faves. Cookie Monster taking care of a trainful of cookies seems like a bad idea, but the guy actually resisted. XD Way to go cookie!

  • love that Sesame Street wasn't afraid to use a LONG story-song for children. And now that I'm a mom, I think it's a great way to teach the "through" concept.

  • Because of this song, I promise to continue in my study of science, discovering the knowledgement of the universe. I have discovered the method to seeing the bones in my hand, EVEN THOUGH I AM WEARING OVEN MITTS!

Your video helping me to do this cookie monster! THANK YOU!

  • What year was this shot?

  • this how sesame street should still have segments like this.

  • this is cool.

  • Just Classic! As a kid who had model trains and an adult who still has them, this video brings back a very fond memories!

  • EPIC!!! The avalance scene was impressive when I was a kid. That was big screan quality special effects.

  • I love this song, and haven't heard it since i was 3! thank you so much!!

  • I liked that song. They used a model train & fake snow to make it look like it was in an avalance.

  • What happens if the snow is yellow?

  • Then Cookie Monster would either get sick, poisoned, or die.

  • Moo Cows Yay!!!

  • The optimism is this song just brings me to tears!! 'Through, through through! He'll get the train through!' So inspiring.

  • my dad was weird & would sing the "thru thru thru lets get this train thru" to me lmao

  • Thank you for this trip down memory lane!

  • this is awesome!

  • My nephew Asees Joshua loved this clip. He's fond of trains. Thanks for posting it!

  • And a hug to the singing cattle. MOOO! "HUG!"

  • I just saw the dutch version. Who's the singer of the original? I like it. I had never seen this or the dutch version before. Thanks for posting.

  • I think that's Jerry Nelson, one of the Muppet performers.

  • Thanks. Well he has a good voice for this song.

  • Wow that I think thats in Rockys like Colorado because these moutans are very very diffuclult to reach and lots of snow

  • don't eat the yellow snow!

  • Through, through, through!

    HE GOT THE TRAIN THROUGH!

    Thanks for posting this video.

    Great to see it again!!

  • when I first saw the avalanche, I was scared that Cookie Monster got stuck in the snow. I loved the song and when he ate the snow instead of the cookies.

  • Oh this takes me back

    Thanks for posting!

  • Hey, I just realized this is the same prop train they used in "Beat the Time!"

  • if only they could have kept going like that I would still love it as a teaching tool.

    But Frazzle uggh!

  • it mighty tasty too!

  • Oh, MEMORIES! A lesson in putting the needs of others before one's own desires. Although, with all those cookies, and ice cream, and fudge sauce, I kinda DID expect him to give into his sweet cravings and pig out on cookies a la mode. BTW, I always assumed the party that the cookies and sundae fixings was for was at an orphanage or something.

  • i'm always impressed at old school sesame street's creative genius. get a message, a lesson across in a cool way.

  • Also... resist temptation to do wrong. Especially when there are people counting on you.

  • This video is funny, but it has 2 great messages:

    1. Fulfill the responsibilities you agree to take on

    2. Don't let a problem cause you to fold. If there's a way to beat if, find it. Use whatever talents/skills you have, of neccessary

  • Through, through, through,

    He'll get the train through

    Through, through, through,

    He'll get the trai-ai-ai-ain through.

  • i love da cookie monster

  • I always loved this segment. I always wanted the train that Cookie Monster was riding in. Just goes to show that Cookie DOES have some willpower and is always up for helping the kids. I still get goosebumps when I listen and watch this video. THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT!!! Too bad Sesame Street doesn't do stuff like this anymore.

  • If only our obstacles were to us as snow is to Cookie Monster!

  • if only...

  • IT MIGHTY TASTY TOO!

    classic americana,

filtered thru mid 70's post-hippie conscience

Sesame Street was the last gasp

of all the attempts to reconcile

    democracy with socialism

it made SUCH a strong case for some sort of balance....

    but then came the 80's....

  • You're sure it was the 70's? I first saw this segment about 1985.

  • @Location3 yes it was the 70's,I was born in 1970 and I remember this clip when I was 3 and 4,it was my favorite because I loved(still do) trains,I use to think they were saying train Drew, that Drew was the train's name LOL

  • Thank you for putting this up. I actually got a bit choked up watching this. When Cookie said "Me forget about cookies, and eat the snow instead!" I just goes to show how much Cookie Monster was willing to put the kids before his own needs.

  • @samuraix73 I'm glad I'm not the only one who got choked up.

  • Barney and Shits cannot compare to Sesame Street! Sesame Street is far superior! Sketches like this prove it!

  • The Locomotive in this video is Seen Again in Beat the time.

  • Thanks for the post, I love this!

  • man i wish that there snow in south texas. i,ve only seen snow once.

    :(

  • "..and a tank of chocolate goo..."

    Thanks for the fun memories!!

  • I think this is why I liked to eat snow as a little kid, just had to avoid the yellow snow! LOL

  • LOL!

  • I had this on record and killed the needle playing it over and over.

    "It mighty tastey too!"

    Thanks for posting this!

  • I only saw this once, but I had a CD, and I'd make my mom play it over and over, singing "through, through, through!"

  • Woah, when I first saw this I started to realize that as a kid I was scared of this but I couldn't remember why ... I think it was a combination of the avalanche and cookie monster eating the snow at the end... I think I felt like he was manic or intense or something when he ate it and it scared the crap out of me as a kid!

  • PiLfan thx. This old stuff makes me wanna go back 30+ yrs when shows like this was the most important thing in life

  • nolan

  • I am 35 now, and when I was prolly 4 to 6 years old and living with just my mom, I used to sing this in the tub, lol. This is great!

  • thanks man, i have been looking for this segment for a long time!!!

  • LOL! Cookie Monster took that train in Beat the Time.

  • Wow! Cookie Monster is really using his brain here. =D

  • This song used to make me cry as a kid. I used to watch SS in the mornings always hoping this one would come on. It was a rare one though. Seeing it now after 30 years is very special.

  • My favorite Sesame Street sketch as a kid - thanks for posting!

  • wow... I completely forgot this one... I hope my neice will like it as well...

  • Haha, you are too funny...and today Sesame Street is high arc storytelling with plenty of meaningful street storyplot lines and segments that are not dumbed down for 2 year olds. Yes, it has gotten better with age (*sarcasm*).

  • Ok sorry if this comment came across wrong. I misspelled "wasn't". I meant today's Sesame Street is much worse. Back then it was great.

  • Wow. Segments like this are why Sesame Street was so great. They don't make them like that anymore.

  • what if the snow was yellow

  • I remember this one from when I was a kid too! A Styrofoam avalanche is indeed a rail hazard to be reckoned with--especially in 1/16 scale!

  • Anyone ever notice what a coincidence it was that the avalanche happened just as Cookie's train was coming through? I think this may have been a sabotage attempt by the Food and Drug Administration.

  • Blue grass music with death metal vocal from Cookie Monster. That rox.

  • Great!!! Thanks for the post, I love this!!!!!

  • Big up the Cookie Monster, conquering his addition with will-power alone like that.

  • If only our obstacles were to us as snow is to Cookie Monster!

  • OK, this one caught me by surprise. Joe Raposo wrote this one too. BALLAD OF CASEY MAC PHEE (Legal Title), Raposo Joseph G, BMI Work #1885800. I had NO idea he did this one.

  • Ah the good old days. When Sesame Street wasn't riddled with Elmo.

  • don't eat the yellow snow!

  • Where the Huskies go ;)

  • I have the record to this day with this song on it, Grover and Cookie Monster's "Just The Two of Us" I loved this song and when I saw this on Sesame Street, the next time it snowed, I ate snow like Cookie Monster

  • I had the same record. The good ol' days. Ever had real maple sugar on snow? Come to Vermont and you'll see that it's very popular!

  • I am from Vermont and am quite familiar with "sugar on snow"!

  • Oh, don't get me hungry! That's cool! It's amazing stuff.

  • Thank you very, very much for posting this. My younger brother, who's severely autistic, grew up with this piece on video and loves it, but the tape wore out a few years ago and he's been wanting very much to see it again. If he could, he'd thank you too :)

  • I SWEAR the banjo singer sounds like Arlo Guthrie!

  • Sounds like Arlo Guthrie, but I think it's Jerry Nelson.

  • I think you're right. What a frikkin TALENTED group of people these guys were at CTW... makes me sad for the old days...

  • haha.."a tank of chocolate goo"

  • ohhhhh, remember when kids television wasn't condescending?

  • YES

  • My favorite as a kid. The avalanche is awesome.

  • wow...thank you so much. This was my favorite as a child

  • Never thought about it, but CM talks a lot like Bizarro.

  • LOL this is trip down old memory lane

  • Methink Cookie not work so hard to get apples and oranges through to kids today....Great memories, thanks for posting!

  • This is without a doubt one of the best skits ever made on sesame street.

  • i honestly did not see that coming about cookie monster eating the snow... i really thought he would crack and eat the cookies!

  • remember kids (and monsters) dont eat the yellow snow! (o:

  • yrah the avalanche was a bit scary for me 2 when i young i use to cover my eyes up a top classic ME EAT THE SNOW INSTED =)

  • smart Cookie Monster-eating the snow!

  • I loved trains when I was a kid...so naturally this one was a winner in my eyes. The avalanche was a bit scary, but good ol' Cookie always "got the train through". One question though...how come the brakeman and conductor had to ride in the cattle car with the cows?

  • looking back on it the avalanche was very realistic

  • When I was a kid, I'd run out of the room until the avalanche was over! I agree that it was VERY realistic!

  • Yes! This started my fascination with trains as a little guy!

  • wow! I didn't recognise the name but AI know this skit.

I have to show my folks these!

  • I sure remember this!!! Through Through Through! Good going, Cookie!

  • Great clip. The special effects still look good today.

  • The avalanche was a bit on the scary side, but it was awesome that CM got the train out of the avalanche, cranked her back up, and got going again.

  • That avalanche was definately an excersize in tension.

like that other train one where they try to put the 2 halves of a big tunnel painting together and then the train comes rumbling through the big tunnel painting all slow and ominousand inevitable.

  • THROUGH! THROUGH! THROUGH!!! Love it!!!

  • One of the best clips ever on the show. Cookie Monster rules. He was always my favorite.

  • I used to be afriad of the avlanche was anyone else?

  • I used to change the channel when the avalanche scene came up.

  • Yes!

  • When I first saw it as a kid, the before and after shots of the train looked different enough that I thought the avalanche had knocked the entire train down to a lower level of the mountain.

  • I used to sing along with this one. Kee Hee! YAY Cookie!!

  • Me get the tray-ay-ay-ain through

  • I never knew what they said then until now! Thank you! LOL!

  • my mom still sings this song

  • I've never seen this episode on TV!

  • ITS IS INDEED A CLASSIC ANYTHING WITH COOKIE MONSTER IN IT YAY

  • They gotta air this again!

  • I love this one!
