when you have the car at 100% acceleration or past a certain speed the cars ECU turns the A/C off, you will notice around 0:40 the light wasnt on anymore, but that does seem a little late for it to be off, maybe there something wrong with it. =]]

if this is a 220kw motor it would have been a series 2 or later. they produced 435nm at 5250rpm, the first xr8 series 1 had 185kw with 412nm at 5000rpm. than the 200kw engine in the xr8 had 420nm at 5000rpm. The series 2&3 motor also used in the limited rebal edition did 0-100kph in 6 sec and 1/4 mile in high 14's nice engines.... GO FORD
the series 1 AU XR8 also shared the same motor as the very last EF XR8 only difference was torque was slightly less

Yep, VT commos feel weird when powering, like you're moving but you can't feel the car going. With the AU falcon you feel alot more involved as the cars accelerating.

a v6 would get any ford upto second gear after that the v6 has hardly any torque compared to the fords v8 or 6. v6's are only revy motors fords are mostsly torque which is what counts.
vn's are slow as shit, they only have 165kw compared to a 220kw ford thats actual built well and wont break down after 30,000 km's like a holden. so for now keep ur little holden mouth shut!

The good news is that this series XR8 is quicker than all new FG Falcon Range - even the XR6 Turbo which are all limited electronically limited to 230 km/h according to May's Wheel Magazine. Which means this is an absolute classic of a Ford. I reckon it will match the BMW M3 for straight line donk! You could get a second hand one for 25 grand too!

As a matter of fact, i do. All the best motors are three litres or less: RB26, 2JZ-GTE, 4G63, SR20DET, K20, G4GF, 4A-GE. V8s are inefficient if they are using pushrods + 2 valves per cylinder and purely rely on epic displacement to get by. Just remember what happened at bathurst when a certain Calsonic Skyline was introduced...
Merc, BMW, Jag oh and don't forget, what is considered the import "Hero car" the Nissan Skyline (190km/h- seen it hit from the passenger seat on various occasions).
Could've got a coupla extra k's out of it if you had the a/c off! maybe too hot up there though. Not sure about au but my ba xr6t cuts the a/c on full throttle, you can tell 'cause the air goes from chilling cold to almost warm

The inline six is superior in all respects, with the exception of size. Further, having driven many Commodores from VN to VE, I disagree with you that the VN would 'smoke that XR8'. Not only is the XR8 faster, it has a build quality that is sorely lacking in the Holden, a finding reflected in the poor safety record of the VN, VP, VR & VS.
the reason that the ford inline six is even close to being as economical as a holden v6 is because of fords superior fuel injection system as opposed to holdens, otherwise the inline 6 is a less efficient desighn because it it causes more paralytic drag to force a piston up as apposed to having it in a v configuration, but on the other hand it offers more torque as the piston decends in the bore, a inline six is a better towing engine, and in my opinion a bit stronger as well,but less efficient

TS50 was a beast with the 5.6litre stroker V8, it was hand built and was a gun engine, no way ur XR6 would beat one, same goes for the xr8 220kw, apart from these yeah u would prob crush any other Windsor V8 variants.

The AU XR8 is a good machine if you want a cheap modern V8. You can pick them up at pretty good prices with options like sunroof and momo steering wheels if you look hard. If you're thinking of buying one, I've had troubles with suspension on the IRS model - the plates break away at the top and will cost you about $300 a side fitted. The front wheels can do with an adjustable camber kit, because the tyres wear out quick on a stock set up.
AU series 3 is underrated, they had real good quality heads etc.I remember Wheels at the release of the AU3 quote "Kicks the living shit out of the various HSV products". Don't know if your serious but your mates commodore uses pretty much all imported parts engine etc. Not too Aussie in my eyes.

He was so pissed that his huge 5.7l fire breathing 240kw all australian muscle was beaten by what most people believe to be the slower car (AU XR8). old post i know but i own a 99 AU XR8 as well i read somewhere they were limited to 235km/h anyway..ive had mine so far to 190 and it did it in a heart beat actually probley as fast as this 220kw..mine would easily reach the limitor and if it hasnt got one easily break it with revs to spare..
well it was a VZ era rental from hertz last christmas, took it all the way from kings cross to top end and back.The analogue speedo doesnt go past it but the digital sure does! will post it on here soon, should i?

MegaCwat is spot on, it is an AU xr8 series 2 October 2001 build. It came out just before the 250kw T series stroker.
No mods were done on this car, not even filter....

V8s are inefficient if they are using pushrods + 2 valves per cylinder and purely rely on epic displacement to get by. Just remember what happened at bathurst when a certain Calsonic Skyline was introduced...

Could've got a coupla extra k's out of it if you had the a/c off! maybe too hot up there though. Not sure about au but my ba xr6t cuts the a/c on full throttle, you can tell 'cause the air goes from chilling cold to almost warm

nope, BA XT's are limited to 200km/h. But the earlier falcons, such as the EF and EL were 180km/h.

Dude, I was half joking, sounds like you took it personally. To be serious though, where were you educated that the V6 is the more efficient design? The inline six is superior in all respects, with the exception of size. Further, having driven many Commodores from VN to VE, I disagree with you that the VN would 'smoke that XR8'. Not only is the XR8 faster, it has a build quality that is sorely lacking in the Holden, a finding reflected in the poor safety record of the VN, VP, VR & VS.

the reason that the ford inline six is even close to being as economical as a holden v6 is because of fords superior fuel injection system as opposed to holdens, otherwise the inline 6 is a less efficient desighn because it it causes more paralytic drag to force a piston up as apposed to having it in a v configuration, but on the other hand it offers more torque as the piston decends in the bore, a inline six is a better towing engine, and in my opinion a bit stronger as well,but less efficient

you know mate, im not stupid enough to be actually under the impression that a v6 vn commodore would beat this,that would go against the laws of physics, i was just using it as a metaphor as to how slow this is for a 5 litre v8, and second of all, i have been driving for years, i have raced dirt circuit and driven many different cars on the property my mum lives on, and if you knew anything about the functionality of a inline vs a v6, you would know that the i6 isnt the superior engine.

What would you like to know? The simplistic I6 if far superior than any holden v6, The intake, the heads, the camshaft... timing gear.. exhaust manifold, all work... where as holden v design suffers many flaws.

TVR, GTR, Supra, and u cant say there are many v6's 3litre or under that can run with those..for cost and reliability..

@holdenrulz lol no they are not. they are just as capable as the ls series only difference being they are in a heavier car.. drove an xr8 last night actually. and my mates clubby has 400kw.. oh btw the keonigsegg (beat the veyron top speed record) has a 4.6L boss motor in it haha. and yes the rb26 can produce 400kw but the 4L turbo has already seen over 1200kw in somecases sometin that no rb26 has done so far.

TS50 was a beast with the 5.6litre stroker V8, it was hand built and was a gun engine, no way ur XR6 would beat one, same goes for the xr8 220kw, apart from these yeah u would prob crush any other Windsor V8 variants.

The AU XR8 is a good machine if you want a cheap modern V8. You can pick them up at pretty good prices with options like sunroof and momo steering wheels if you look hard. If you're thinking of buying one, I've had troubles with suspension on the IRS model - the plates break away at the top and will cost you about $300 a side fitted. The front wheels can do with an adjustable camber kit, because the tyres wear out quick on a stock set up.

AU series 3 is underrated, they had real good quality heads etc.I remember Wheels at the release of the AU3 quote "Kicks the living shit out of the various HSV products". Don't know if your serious but your mates commodore uses pretty much all imported parts engine etc. Not too Aussie in my eyes.

Thats awesome to see that.I have one exactly the same except auto. They punch so hard. I smashed my mate's SS VX Bommodore, should of seen the look on his face, priceless. He was so pissed that his huge 5.7l fire breathing 240kw all australian muscle was beaten by what most people believe to be the slower car (AU XR8). So to all those peeps out there who think a commy beats the falcoon, think again their still pretty damn fast car!

true true..the thing that made the AU's a better care was 1 it was lighter and 2 had better suspension set-up's then holden while the 220kw motor even tho it lacked 30kw from the GenIII motor it still gave it a ass kicking including all of the HSV's at the time AU's were Fords best car problem was they were so underrated and hated for its looks

old post i know but i own a 99 AU XR8 as well i read somewhere they were limited to 235km/h anyway..ive had mine so far to 190 and it did it in a heart beat actually probley as fast as this 220kw..mine would easily reach the limitor and if it hasnt got one easily break it with revs to spare..

i own one of the Ford Falcon AU2 XR8 220kw 5 spd, it goes real strong...Last of the Windsor V8's...Ford claim 220kw but im sure its producing more..
