Elbows weren't allowed because they easliy caused cuts which lead to stoppage even if the fighter is full of energy and able to fight. Stomps and soccer kicks don't cause that much cuts so they were allowed. See, thats the main difference between PRIDE and UFC. PRIDE wanted their fighters to fight for as long and as good as they can and earn PRIDE (Hunt-Kohsaka - perfect example) while UFC tends to prefer the spectacular slaughterfest, at least they portrait it so - no sport anymore!
@cutescarface51 I agree that this is much better to watch. But in defense of the ufc stomps and knees to the head can cause some nasty concussions and concussions effect mental health sometimes permenantly. Elbows on the other hand cause cuts which could end a fight but cuts can easily be stitch and don't leave the fighters with permanent brain damage.
I just don't feel the spirit of MMA fight like ufc than prde fc. Way better representative of MMA than casino rip off ufc. This had sport and spectacle of martial arts show what more can you ask for. Don't forget peoples the pride fc formula is reviving back to CCF bushido july 23 don't forget. Keep MMA genuine and different!

Also, Liddell went over to a PRIDE tournament and lost to Rampage the first time they fought. It wasn't just freak shows fighting each other

The reason there are not as many comebacks because the fighters today are alot smarter and not one dimensional, open weights were dumb imo because no one would want to see brock lay on people like forest, as sports gets bigger we will get the bad crowd like every sport, which is the same as occasional fighter as well.

@DamienWar yeah i agree. they were brutal...the illegal elbows weren't for the fighter's safety (hence why they allow soccer kicks and foot stomps to the face). The illegal elbows were to avoid fights being stopped by nasty cuts. Which, i can understand to some degree. But guys are learning to use elbows for more then just cuts (Jon Jones for example) can use them with knockout power as well. outside of the open weight bs and freak show fights, PRIDE had some legit matchups for its day

TonyCroydon misses my point. The sound of leather hitting flesh is the true music of fighting. From the sound you can hear how hard to punch or kick landed and that increases the tension allied to the action. The roar from the crowd is also the true music of fighting as is the panting of the fighters. It tells you who is out of breath and on the edge of losing. Real music drowns out all these qualities that add to the drama of a fight and turns it into a disco dance or ballet that is dull.
Pride's fight cards were crazy. Each fight in a PRIDE event was what a main event in UFC is. In ONE NIGHT in pride, you could see a lineup like Nogueria, W. Silva, Fedor, Rampage and Coleman. PRIDE FOREVER!

The difference between ufc and pride fc is that pride would bring back fighters who weren't as technically sound as other guys but who fought there guts out. Ufc wants the best guys. Me personally look at mma as a spectator sport and would rather see guys fight like warriors than fight strategically and put everyone to sleep. Cough cough gsp cough cough. I really don't think pride would have kept gsp around even after winning a couple fights.

@minervius watch what happens to wrestlers who went for double legs and got stuffed in pride, they would get kneed to the head which kept them more cautious and not going for weak double legs when their in trouble. then watch how many times wrestlers in the new rules get hurt then can go for a double the guy sprawls then hes able to lay there and get his marbles back where in pride they would be getting kneed in the head.

It sounded ridiculous, and that kind of theatrical presentation is BASED on the Japanese Pro Wrestling organizations. like it or not, UFC is based on Boxing promotions, not WWE. Also, they really needed to test for steroids over there, which they didn't, and still do not.

@Dannypage22 yeah i know...but the reason why UFC cant be like this is because of sport regulations. I would see Pride more then i see UFC but they will never put it in the USA. UFC is still banned in some states because some states feel it is still too violent. I like anything MMA so if UFC can be seen on regular tv ill see it...lol. but pride is the best!!!

im an MMA fan and the sport isnt the same without PRIDE anymore! I LOVE THE UFC though but pride was fucking awesome filled with great fights, Knockouts, submissions and great fighters.
