  • what a wonderful old machine it will run for years yet

  • Asides from the startup preparation, it seems to be quite easy to start :)

  • very similar to a fairbanks -morse

  • I'm 14 and really starting to become interested in this old technology lol If a lot of these old designs were thought about again they could be modernized to be more safe and more eco-friendly

  • @14omega28ok don't worry, huge flywheels have been designed and redesigned as much as it could!

  • Bara en cylinder funkar!

  • Se den tillräckligt länge och den andra cylindern aktiveras.

  • One gallon of fuel per hour? Perhaps he should propel his rig with the 2 cylinder on the back deck, rather than the lump under the hood...er..."bonnet".

  • wow, I saw this engine today, 7th august 2011. I also put a video on you tube under the name m6jdb. Its not as good as this one though.

    Keep up the good work

  • What a wonderful engine - but next time please don't record it on your calculator!

  • @bored1980 I hadn't seen this film in a while so ran it through and found it to be as enjoyable as ever...seems to have matured with time!!!

  • @bored1980 I'd call this good quality. I saw many many videos that are much worse than this one (low FPS, high compression, bad sound, ...)

  • omg worst audio ever.

  • need the audio!!!!! what song is it?

  • The engine is cranked around by hand and needs to be in a particular position prior to the compressed air being released to start it.

I have seen it being started many times and the same procedure is always used. If I recall it's just over TDC before the compressed air is released into one of the cylinders which then cranks it over.

  • Beautiful engine...why was he spinning it in the beginning..was it building pressure or what? Thanks

  • lister JP 1 on compressor set in front of te vickers!

  • Air-blast injection...

  • I like @5:37 where he gives it some throttle.

  • Does it have a starter motor like a car engine?

  • @tuner562 No, usually such kind of engines have starting power from compressed air; I suppose that the compressor in the fore part of the truck is for this purpose.

  • @tuner562 lol such a cute question coochiee cooo lmao

  • I must ask, is this 2 or 4 stroke?

  • At the Prickwillow pumping station near Ely there is another almost identical Vickers Petter Atomic hot-bulb engine that they run on open days. Lovely engines, they go for ever!

  • Very cool, m8! Thanks for putting me on to your vid.

This reminds me of something that I had all but forgotten. When I lived in South Korea about 20 something years ago, I saw a working engine similar to this one, in some small town I can't remember. It seemed that it blew about two or three smoke rings per second from its exhaust on the top side.

Now I wish I could remember where that was, lol!

  • This is really cool! It looks neat, but the thing that I really love is how it sounds! It just has that "Powerful rythem" sound to it.

  • Loveley engine, My lister uses about a gallon per day, not per hour!
