One thing Wendy told me (and I think this is especially relevant here) is that she learns to play the piano part to every new piece so she can understand it better. I think that's so neat.
Wendy Warner is such an amazing cellist. I had the opportunity of playing in a master class with her years ago at Wichita State. She gave a recital later that evening, and she played this Brahms cello sonata.
yuck, i hate that fingering at the beginning. And she plays loud all the time. It's a duo sonata---the piano has melody, too, and the cellist should know when to back off. But the cello sounds absolutely GORGEOUS, and this is the best recording of this piece i've seen on youtube so far.
what part of the fingering dont you approve of? plus you need to adjust to the hall you play in when you take volume into account. Her base sound is practically another's forte... its just the quality of her instrument and also technique. i happened to be at this concert, and it was a rather large hall, and Wendy tends to play louder than most, like you said.
it's not that i don't APPROVE of the fingering---there's just another fingering that sounds better (in my opinion). It stays on the C string, and it's really cool with, i think, more opportunity for expression.
I like the 1st finger on the very first e... but going up on the c string in the second bar is not as good as opposed to using the open g string... somehow not as effortless. Is that what you're talking about?
WOW! From the very outset I loved this performance. What a great service she does to one of the great pieces for cello! Gorgeous tone - works really well for Brahms, very clear.
this performance was reviewed in the Milwaukee Sentinel:
"the music turned gossamer in their hands" and "Through most of the sonata, Brahms moves the piano and cello together in rhythm. It's as if he merged the two instruments into a single, harmonizing line, as opposed to assigning roles of melody and accompaniment. Nuzova and Warner sounded entirely attuned to this notion and to one another in this beautiful and compelling reading." --- Tom Strini
the vibrato is a bit too rushed... but other than that its beautiful :D

This is absolutely fantastic. Somewhat thick to my taste but beautiful, and touching in an emotional sense. Bravo.

I personally love her thick sound. That's what I imagine when I think Brahms.

Wonderful and romantic up to the end. Very nice translations of Brahms sensitivity. Thank you so much for your great interpretation!

@llillipig it's easier to do it on the g string but the sound on the c is much more rich in the upper Register

Her bow arm reminds me a lot of du Pre. That's really neat. I'll hopefully be playing in a masterclass for her in December.

you have to take into account: that with a single microphone in front of the cello, the balance gets distorted.

je ne suis pas d' accord,à moins d'être sourd on entend bien le piano et son jeu reste très expressif quand elle accompagne dans le grave
