  • It remind of my dad he died 1994

  • One of McCartney's most touching songs and a classic.

  • wow

  • aaaaaaw i love this song 1:59 is his son and him i think

  • oh lord how i love this song. when i hear it i can feel my daddy's arms around me. i miss him so.

  • my favorite LEGEND ...

  • Simple, straightforward, touching and moving...an underrated gem from Sir Paul...going to see him at Wrigley Field in Chicago, at long last they'll have a REAL winner on the field in Cubbyland ....:-)

  • @ITILII My sister got to see the Beatles at Comiski back in 66 I think it was and now she does even care. I was to young and have yet to see McCartney anywhere but the tube.

  • I have this album...in vinyl ..a special edition that has Paul's artwork w/an enclosed lithograph of the cover art on the actual album..However...I keep it inside the album as it came....Because somehow while I was at Anaheim stadium? In 2002? I played Frisbee with Paul? And he signed this album!...The people behind me were like "I can;t believe I just saw that happen! It was the coolest ever moment!! That's why we call him Sir! :) Thanks for the upload of this way special song! HUGS N ALOHAS

  • one of my favorite Paul McCartney songs...

  • I think this song that Paul McCartney wrote is dedicated to his father Jim McCartney.

  • Great Song, especially on Father's Day!

  • Damn, I miss my dad.

  • Tremendously beautiful song. Have loved it from the moment I first heard it and now it has special meaning having a son of my own.

  • Aww, 2:00 James and Paul <333

  • i LOVE paul soo much!!!!

LONG LIVE THE BEATLES AND PaUL...THANK YOU.

THIS was his best solo album 1988!

  • I heard that this song it's for his son James.

    What a beautiful dad :)

  • @nanipotter I heard that it was what his dad used to say to him, but probably, in turn, its what he said to james too. Beautiful man.

  • @123jsbach Aww your response <3 i've never thought of that :D

And yes, he is a beautiful man.

  • Beutiful song and ditto video for a seldom sung about family relation.

  • @MertonHayford simple, meaningful, beautiful....Paul at his best....I think this song is very unknown and underrated. Paul is without question one of the greatest songwriters ever. along with John Lennon, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams Sr.

  • @ITILII Yep Macca is up there with the best. And let's not forget Elvis Costello.

  • I have loved the Beatles and Paul for years... the reason why I'm a musician now.

With my son who's 5 (who also loves the Beatles) and listening to these words, it makes me cry. Probably a little because I love Paul, but mostly because I feel every word of this song!

Love your kids and feel this way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0 dislikes.

  • paul mccartneys the best ill never forget it

  • Really nice song

  • I woke up in the middle of the night once to the sound of guitars in my kitchen, I was probably about 10 (15 years ago). My father and his best friend were playing. They are both incredibly gifted guitar players. They played this song for me once, and I've remembered the tune, and a good portion of the words all these years from hearing it that one time. Last night I googled the lyrics and found this, posted it to my dad's wall on facebook right away. I'd love to hear it played by him again.

  • This song of course was inspired by Pauls dad Jim. Jim & Mary must've been wonderful parents, the way their sons turned out: succesful AND nice. In their teen years after their mum died, Jim also actively supported both Mike to pursue photography & Paul in his music.

I had a chance to visit Pauls childhood home last year and inside, above the front door there's a plaque saying "For Mum and Dad - Jim and Mary". It was put up by Paul and Mike in honour of their parents, which I thought was lovely.

  • Lennon got a lot of deserved attention in his last years about his new-found appreciation of fatherhood with Sean. Paul desersves a lot of respect and credti for this similar reflection on the affection between father and son. Beautifully written and recorded!

  • @permasun69

It's sad that John (& Yoko) shunned Jullian.

  • @GuitarMirth

    This is true :(

I love Lennon but I hate that he didn't give Julian the proper attention.

  • @AyashaYumi It's ironic that John wrote and sang such a powerful song like "Mother" about his relationships with his parents and was essentially not ever there for Julian himself.

  • I love this song!

  • Another brilliant song by the most brilliant man :')

  • Im crying!!! Lovely song!!!

  • Lovely Macca, just great.

  • beautiful song

  • Beautiful. Thanks.

  • The intro reminds me of Blackbird

  • this song came out soon after learning my son had cerebral palsy and cried the first time i heard it. It has weighed a ton but 25 years later were still together

  • soooo cute

  • Great Father's Day song; one Paul's bests post-Beatles' songs IMHO. He hits the nail on the head.

  • Happy Father's Day dads, 2010!!

  • my father KEITH JONES is the person i can put it there to and i love him so much, every time i hear this tune i cry. Theres not many people you can put it there too. MY DAD IS THE BEST AND SHOWED ME THE WAY OF BEATLES. LONG LIVE KEITH JONES.

  • @DEANJ1973 Just like this song, you show gratitude and love for a worthy father. Cheers!

  • @nicklebag123 i really hope your in the same situation. if not you know the true meaning of love and life. good luck my friend, peace be with you

  • this song reminds me of my great grandfather. he was a great person, he lived 101 years. i miss him

  • I love it. Why oh why it was not a big hit?

  • It makes me sad, my father used to drink and being cruel

  • Esto es un temazo

  • I remember reading the story of how this song came about. It may be in the sleeve notes to the album (Flowers In The Dirt). 'Put it there if it weighs a ton' was just a silly something that his dad used to say to him as a boy. What I like about this song is that decades later a memory like that can pop into a songwriters head and lead to something so beautiful.

Paul probably farts melodically, but it's his way with words that is so impressive. He's a poet.

  • I love this song

  • Paul to James

    amazing!

  • simple, direct, moving, Macca at his best

  • See this when you actually have a little boy and see if it doesn't tap dance on your heartstrings

  • Thanks gferdinandus6 for sharing this outstanding video. I cry every time I see it. For some reason it reminds me of my father who died Dec 8, 1991. I believe he had a relationship with his father like the ones depicted here. My paternal grandfather died before I was born.

    Anyway, thanks again!

  • I'd say there are many dimensions to Paul's genius, but his true gift is his sense of melody... however simple or complex the arrangement, the melody is always perfectly melded with the lyric, and sings naturally - no forced syllables... I think most of his tunes would stand just being sung solo, no instruments... all the rest is icing... the core of a song - lyric and melody - is McCartney's greatest ability... and he stands head and shoulders above anyone else in his generation in that regard.

  • I just wanna say one thing. Yes, this song is pure beauty. simple? maybe... but, ppl who say that is just how mccartney makes his music is half wrong. He can create something simple and amazing as he usually does, BUT that is NOT his genius. His genius is throwing together something like Helter Skelter or back i the ussr, VERY complex songs... maybe the most of all time, and he could do every instrumental and vocal part of each if he really had to. that is mac's skill...

  • @DoWnToWn4mW I must say that I don´t agree with you, genius in simplicity also exists and it is as good as something progressive or complex

  • also songs like back in the ussr or helter skelter, though more complex than this one they are also more comercial and to be genius is to create something unique, not matter if it is simple or complex

  • I agree..simple is often so hard to achieve. To get that exact beat when plucking those chords is not easy.

  • bella che dire.. bella

  • Do not get confuse. Achieve what appears to be simple is far harder than you think. There´s nothing of "simple" in McCartney´s music.

  • Deceptively simple, that is.

  • Love the bass arrangement. Since the Beatles he knew when to let a silence or insert a note.

  • I agree, I'm trying to play some of his songs on the piano and I must admit that some songs, which sound quite simple are a lot harder to do when you try to follow the sheet!

  • This song appears on the album" FLOWERS IN THE DIRT"

  • What is the name of the album this song appears?

  • The beauty of Paul's music is in its simplicity. He knows how to create amazing music without all the fluff and nonsense. That's his genius.

  • Ive never had this with a song before, but this song did made me cry a bit, it reminds me of my dad and my grandpa, i have a really strong connection with both of them, thanks Paul, for making this beautiful song..

  • It doesnt get better than this....

  • la imagen que aparece de ultimas ... ese es paul?

  • Yes it's PAul with his son James

  • This song is so beautiful!!! It's one of my many favorites.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • He is doing well as expected.. We just take it one day at a time.... Thanks for caring... :-)

  • i can't watch this without crying ..

  • me neither really so beautiful

  • Paul is very very greastest men in the world

  • I've never heard this before, what a beautiful song!

  • great song

  • i love my Dad too... he is gravly ill... Stage 4 kidney Failure... I love him so much that if I could fix it I would... Thanks Paul for the great song....

  • I pray for your father, my mother passed away due to cancer. I miss her everyday but I see the sun and I know she is with me.

  • Thanks so much for the preyers... My thoughts are with you too... ((HUGS)))

  • Alltough this comment is 2 months old, and i dont know how your dad is doing, i still wish you all the luck in the world

  • He is hanging in... has his good and bad days.. We take the days one at a time....

  • That's sad to hear, enjoy the time you still have with him.. Good luck with everything

  • how is your dad doing at the moment? and blessings man

  • I cry EVERY time I hear this song... It's always made me think of my dad... Now that I'm a father myself, it makes me think of my sons, Kaden and Caleb...

  • glorious orchestral interlude about 1:00 into the song. heavenly music. absolutely heavenly.

  • One the songs you never forget, once you heard them.. Paul McCartney is surely one of the greatest song-writers ever...

  • En estos momentos de mi vida, esta canción tiene especail significado para mi. Humberto

At this moment of my life, this song has a special meaning for my. Saludos/regards, Humberto
