Regardless of the inclusion of a fantastic rendition of a terrific song from the awesome soundtrack, this is easily one of my all-time favorite films.
live at leeds version is great..but maybe because ive seen the live footage of the rnr circus so much that its just blows everythang else out the water
Actually, this is not the Live at Leeds version, this is the version from the Rolling Stones' Rock n Roll Circus, also featured on the soundtrack to the classic Who documentary The Kids Are Alright. It's the best recorded performance of the song!
Although, interestingly, the version on the Soundtrack for Rushmore is the version off of Live at Leeds. I personally prefer it, but both versions are superior to the studio cut.
it's on the soundtrack to "the kids are alright" under the title "a quick one"...this is only one part of the entire song (one of townshend's first mini-operas)
good ear! you can tell because when he say "cant believe that im with you again" he sings it differently the the only other two times they preformed it in that period(once at montery pop and once at leeds)
Yes. Definitely the "Circus" version of this song. The timing etc. is very different on the Monterey and Leeds version. It was edited for the movie, obviously.
Also, the "Circus" version actually exists in several different audio edits as well. There are at least three different audio edits of the full "Circus" version, and there is at least one partial version from the movie "The Kids Are Alright".
The most telling difference is the part where Moon tosses the floor tom. I believe, in the "Kids" full movie version you hear when it strikes the cymbal. In the full "Circus" DVD version you only hear the floor tom rumble, and in the "Kids" soundtrack CD, they remove the sounds from that moment altogether.
@havepie The whole thing is from Rock n Roll Circus. The Leeds performance was at a slower tempo, and Entwistle's bass sounds much more overdriven at Leeds.
@blazeb666 And actually, it's just the You Are Forgiven part that comes from the Rock n Roll Circus version. The rest is Live at Leeds. According to Wikipedia.
holy shit, talk about getting stuck in a rut... how many times did I say the same fucking thing? sorry, i don't even remember posting this once... though I agree with it. well said, me.
Wes Anderson may get in stylistic ruts (rehashed milieu, an uninspired ensemble of great actors who aren't that great together, predictable conflicts steering the surface plot), but that's superficial stuff, and he's surely aware of it... beneath the surface and between the lines (where it matters), there's breathtaking ingenuity, and, when everything's considered, he's a startlingly brilliant director. But, even with that aside: WES ANDERSON ALWAYS PICKS THE COOLEST F'CKING MUSIC IN THE WORLD!
i enjoy how the same actors, storylines, themes are used. it's very comforting- it's almost as if a new wes anderson movie is a new part of a series of television shows

I agree. Rumor has it that the Stones felt upstaged by The Who, and that's why Rock and Roll Circus wasn't released for, like, 30 years.

@TheBeatlesRoooock I'm not sure about the "cello, cello, cello..." part but everything from 0:59 on is definitely from Rock n Roll Circus.

quigr193 2 years ago
Try looking for it under "You are forgiven", that's how I found years ago..

@terrormachine78
The actual song itself is about 9 minutes long, it's sort of set in 'chapters'. This is the last chapter of the song.

my favorite is the "you are forgiven" part it gets stuck in my head all the time.
