@geekbaritone Normally, with few exceptions, it means she is pushing her voice and has strain in her vocal chords - causing there to be tension throughout her mouth, and making her jaw shake or wobble...Men rarely do it, but the only exception I've seen to the tension idea is when people are trying to mimic a vibrato because they don't possess it naturally...But she does need to fix that!
This young lady, who is already developing a wobble-as evidenced by the vibrating jaw, indicative of pushing the voice, should LISTEN to the sopranos of the GOLDEN ERA of SINGING such as Lotte Lehmann, Elizabeth Rethberg, Marjorie Lawrence, Llubja Welitsch, Ninon Vallin, Rosa Pauly.
Re comment below: "She is only half black." What do you mean, "only"?
People really should drop this "half-black" nonsense. It's a racist concept. One is either black or one isn't, & there's nothing wrong with being black. Since she appeared last year with Jessye Norman in a concert at Carnegie Hall honoring black singers, my hunch is that she identifies herself as black. You have a problem with that?
I absolutely agree with you johndlabella. She is a developing artist and needs to refine her technique and even out her scale from top to bottom of the voice. Iwould love to hear more beautiful line in her singing and alot more expression. She needs to caress the music with her voice. There are technical problems in the voice that should be addresses now so that they are not major problems later. She is a major talent, but needs to get with a great teacher /coach.
But there are technical problems that, while young, won't matter but will matter shortly! Someone should take the beautiful woman/voice in hand instead of just tell her she's great as she is, so that can be great. Hmmm, frustrating!
A stunning voice and presence - she's coming to the Nationa Arts Center in Ottawa this week! (replacing Erin Wall) for the Brahms Requiem. CAN'T WAIT.
How deliciously ignorant you are! Who cares what you think of DAME Joan Sutherland. I am willing to bet my last pound that you just adore Frorence Foster Jenkis
How exciting to finally have an exceptionally talented young performer such as this continue in the footsteps of the great black soprano's before her. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for her!
what a beautiful. soulfull, expressive voice. she looks stunning as well. she reminds me of a young maria ewing in looks and voice. she is to be a major star.
I met Nicole in Baltimore two Christmases ago after she sang in a performance of the Messiah. I had just come from burying a dear friend a few hours before...her beautiful, expressive voice was so soothing after a really tough day. She's a really sweet, down-to-earth person, and stunningly beautiful too. Congratulations, and thanks loads, Nicole!
i watched her just recently on the 18th of september 2010. She came to Malaysia for a gala concert wow was she amazingly good!!

Nicole lets her singing be smooth and natural. She's wonderful to listen to as a voice student. She'll be in Chicago in the fall, yah! Brava...
