This reminds me of the time on "Hee Haw" when Junior Samples advertised a "1980 Greyhound bus convertible." He explained that it got that way when the driver tried to go under a low bridge. He offered to sell it to a "family of giraffes," and even said they could call BR-549 collect.
to america, swindon, hull, newcastle birmingham, liverpool, brighton IS london. Americans dont get that although on the map england is small it is still big
That bus is a Bristol VRT which never operated with London Transport, they are of an NBC standard design although they do in one way or another resemble the great British iconic red bus that is the Routemaster.
This was not in london it was staged in Swindon wiltshire. It was driven by a stunt man and was a stunt to show what not to do on a training vid !!!!!

I love the comments, all of you are so busy flaming each other that you do not realise that this is a staged movie to demonstrate exactly what happens. Anyway if you are all English then you are all mongrels anyway.
It is pretty funny to read the comments. It's obviously staged-what are the chances that someone has a camera and films an empty old bus on a clear street going over the speed limit ram into a bridge?
to clear things up the comentator got it wrong, the bridge is infact whitehouse bridge in swindon the bus was one of the old thamesdown transport ltd buses that had just been decomisiond and was driven into the bridge as part of a driver safety video the bus traveling along station road then turning left to go under the bridge which would then bring it out onto the great western way anyone who disagres with this check it out on google earth the bridge is part of the route 11&15 service
When the Manchester companies were hiring cheap Polish drivers who could not read English, a top got taken off a double decker bus. That was when the government intervened lol!
I will address you in two points, and with considerably more courtesy than you have displayed.
1. I am not a racist for saying what happened in Manchester. That is literally the reportage of news, as I saw it on a BBC Panorama on the subject in 2006/2005. So if you were to call me racist for that, you would be calling Panorama racist. Go figure.
Low bridge signs in the UK display numerals and sometimes the text 'low bridge' it hardly requires a fluent grasp of English. Your original post (which you appear to have deleted) seemed to imply that bus companies were stupid to recruit Polish drivers which I would consider racist. And yes, perhaps Panorama were racist to a degree in their presentation of events. I would advise you that unquestionable acceptance of what you see or read in the media is foolish and a dangerous thing.
I have not deleted it, it was written 5 months ago is the problem :P Indeed, never take the media at face value, as a politics student I make a point of not doing that. However, I concluded that Panorama was accurate enough in this case. I would stand by the view that bus companies are stupid to recruit Polish drivers BUT ONLY WHEN they cannot do their job to a professional standard. That applies to any person from any nation.
OK perhaps your statement was poorly worded and the implied racism unintentional. I withdraw my arsehole comment which was made in the heat of the moment.
Alot of the busses on the road are 18+ years old and display feet and inches, where as the bridges are rgulary inspected and would have been made metric. Although they are hundreds of years old
I agree, your comments were not racist. In West Yorkshire, we had a driver shortage, so we went to Poland to recruit drivers. They are now good drivers, but they struggle with the language. At first, some had to be re-educated in driving etiquette, because apparently in Poland, buses only stick to the main roads (In Halifax, we have double deck routes narrower than my driveway, I kid you not...) and on Polish roads, EVERYTHING gives way to buses - the opposite to the idiotic UK car "drivers".
2. I should have said "read English" rather than "speak English" My point was the language barrier resulted in an inability to read the road signs correctly, resulting in the driver hitting the bridge. It was the company's responsibility for hiring the driver.
Now that is not racist of me, thats just practical. Common sense. Eg, would you hire me to drive buses in China if I couldn't read Mandarin? I have 3 Polish friends, which I think would pose a major problem if I was racist. I hope this addresses your question.
yeah a guy called "MyUsersName" uploaded the full vid you should check it out. for some reason his videos dont show up on his chanel so search for his name in the search feature.
UK short for the United Kingdom is as the title states a union between the kingdoms of England, Wales and Scotland. UK is the country, Britain is the name given to the land captured and owned by the UK thusly the British Empire.
I found out a couple months back i was wrong about that, nevermind aye, i would remove the comment but apparantly you cant, i dont see how you can remove them.
No, London is the capital of England. Britain (or Great Britain) is the name for the area that includes England, Scotland, Ireland, and maybe some other places which I can't remember at the moment.
Never mind the bus, what about the bridge??
