Hi! I am not a subscriber to your videos. I just stumbled upon this video. I just wanted to wish you the very best in Korea! And that building upon your relationship will take time.
For women, especially in Korea, it's even harder to run a business and sometimes they have to be strong enough to survive. so does she. But what I'm sure about is that deep in her heart, there must be some tender parts of her mind that you can touch. I know you're brave person who would reach one's hand to another. So, why not to her?
Try to open up your mind more before your mother does. Aging usually makes people's minds be more wise and open, but sometimes it even makes them harder and more stubborn - because older people have already been with their personalities for a long time, and that makes it harder to be changed.
Hey just wanted to wish you good luck and also wanted to warn you that ppl will look at you strange if you wear make up. I'm not saying you shouldn't but kind of worried about you. Anyways I wish you luck! I'm kind of emo too, but I'll get over it haha
I hate that you feel that none of your "friends" would be moved to tears after finding out that you're leaving. I would be devastated if my friend moved to California let alone Korea! I wish you lived in Michigan Boo because we would show you true friendship. Make a video once you get settled so we can know you're ok. I hope this journey serves you well and if not that's ok too.
Hey dear, I hope you get to read this. I am also a Korean American living in the states. I lost both of my parents at the age of 13. My only family from my mother's side is living in Korea. I love them so dearly, they haven't seen me throughout my high school years and i've seen them once and family is definitely love. You are lucky to even have financial support, I have been supporting myself and even now in college, it's getting harder. I hope you figure things out, stay beautiful<3
I hope you find your happiness. Everybody deserves to be happy. Having lots of money is great and is helpful in many ways, but it isn't everything, Good luck in Korea :)
obviously @corneliusofdark didn't watch the video ._. and this was really touching. Although I cannot relate it did make me understand the true meaning of what happiness is and what makes it happen, and it really made me so grateful for my family and the memories I have. As a person who's been watching your videos for ages i wish you very good luck in Korea and I hope you do pursue you're happiness :)
im glad u have n trust this outlet to pour out u true feelings and having the courage to say them. wish u the best in korea n will look forward to ur updates :)
So brave to make such a huge move--I applaud you! I just wanted to add that I grew up with emotionally absent parents (mine both had major mental illnesses), and everything I persued externally, even though I succeeded, hasn't helped as much as therapy, which is about building a relationship with *me*, and reparenting *myself*. Just thought I'd share that and also wish you happiness!
LOL@corneliusofdark he never even mentioned a boyfriend. What video were you watching? His reasons for moving to Korea are his own but I doubt its for a lack of being able to get a boyfriend. Also homophobia exists in all countries it doesnt matter where he goes he still has to be himself. As a gay man I know what is its like to try and stay closeted to accommodate others fears to heck with that let em hate really they hate themselves. Safe travels and best wishes!
Obviously I dont know you but your story touched me. You do have a lot to be grateful for and you should keep trying to build a relationship with your mom even though she may not want it. Im not talking to my mother right now either because she thinks Im not living a correct life. Im also gay and used to spent recklessly to try and fit it with a crowd of false friends that just used me. I realized that I was also faking it and trying to fit in. I wasn't happy being myself. Just love yourself.
wow this is so freaking sad i recommend you pick the closest most trustworthy friend you have and try and build a strong friendship with them and be for them what you want them to be for you. Also don't go over there and expect miracles its gonna take some time to build a relationship with your mom and don't go and beat around the bush tell her you are lonely and sad because you never got to have that kind of relationship with her and maybe ask her why she hasn't tried to with you.
@BrighterThanYours and try not to think about it too much just pretty much say it, BLURT it out if you have too anything to keep yourself from chickening out. I feel sad for you because even though I'm not rich i simply cannot imagine my parents not being apart of my life as much as we argue and fight it always ends up better and no matter what they care what happens to me. and i truly believe anything is possible so she may surprise you. You never know what someone is thinking until you ask.
O.m.g. I feel like I am hearing my life story, we have almost exactly same childhood lol. I feel you hon, I hope you find what your looking for in Korea and keep us updated....... This unni missed you and your videos! Big kisses and hugs
If you're going to Korea to "pursuit of happiness", in other words find a boyfriend, you won't find any there. Koreans are homophobic. You're feeling sad because you feel lonely, you have this need for companionship...don't be that desperate to go to Korea.
i feel like this is your best video so far. it really spoke to me. i've been banging my head on a wall about something for YEARS, knowing that it wasn't really the right way for me and i finally did something about it and i feel better. for too long i was thinking "Everyone else can handle it, so you should be able to" and it always turned out bad and the one time that i made a decision after i assessed my own needs, it worked out so much better for me. what you said reminded me of that.
i feel like i know what you mean when you say you were surrounded with people but inside you weren't happy.
i feel that way a lot, too. i love my friends, but a lot of the time, something inside me is starving. it's like i have two versions of me. i can put on a face but inside, the happiness of the moment isn't sinking through to my inner self.
i wish you the very best in Korea. even though you don't know exactly what's in store for you, at least you're looking and progressing. :)
Thank you so much for opening up and sharing with us Josh. I really wish you all the best in your pursuits, and I commend you for being brave enough to strive for your real happiness. Please stay in touch and update us along the way <3
I commend you for making this big decision but no doubt, your life there will be different. I don't know how good your Korean is or if you're accustomed to the culture but even when you step off the plane you will see that America and Korea are very different. I'm Korean too and I've been there a couple of times but I feel like many Asians are more conservative and less open minded about things such as sexuality, freedom of expression, etc. I just hope you won't stop being you no matter what!!
Wow.. this is a very touching video. We're the same age.. and in fact I'm a Korean living in GA too.. but you have a much more mature mindset than I do. I really hope that you find everything you deserve when you go to Korea. And just know that there are many people out there who truly care about you ^^
Good luck...you have had a rough childhood....but you have grown and coming out of it with flying colours....good luck you will find your happiness....you just started by realizing and being aware xx
Have you tried any spiritual options? (not religion, but prayer, meditation, self therapy, helping others etc) or finding something you're passionate at to fill the void? Because at the end of the day you can't control what others do and if things dont work out with your family (even though im sure it will) but if i doesnt, at least youll have something to make you happy in and of YOURSELF despite who is in your life. Good luck. I hope youll still make videos in Korea.
BUT.. Good luck. It's lovely to hear stories from people how they change, and this video is nearly helping me too, makes me think about my life a bit more! :)
