As you might already know, there are 56 ethnic groups in China, and Han is the major one. Most of the other minority ethnic culture are still there today despite what you might think. If you do some research about Tibet, the monks there are quite different from the other Buddhism monks. The lamas in Tibet are the only educated a group of people who rules the land and people in Tibet, and before 1950's, Tibet was the only place in the world, that has serfdom system. Dalai Lama is a political character. So dont be naive.

Whether the government is good or bad should be determined by the own people of the country it governed. No one is perfect that go the same for a government. Most importantly is whether that government do have the concern of living and welfare of her people and is developing the country toward peace, stability and prosperity. The Tibetants currently living in Tibet are generally happier now than before.

I hear claims of brutality from Tibetans since the 1950's but I cannot find any evidence. Im sorry, but I just dont buy in to the line that Tibets culture wont be destroyed by the Chinese. With regard on Tibet, national unity is an important issue in China as is in any other country. I do doubt if the majority of Tibetans want independence. As you might already know, there are 56 ethnic groups in China, and Han is the major one. Most of the other minority ethnic culture are still there today despite what you might think. Yes, Tibet culture will be affected by Chinese, but not destroyed! Unless Tibet is isolated from the world, it will interact with and be affected other culture.

She has many good points about the improvement of human right in China over time and how the Chinese felt about their country. I am just curious. I have heard many said about human right abuse in China, but I have through all over youtube but I haven't found any solid evidence about that. I am just neutral to this debate. As my one Buddist friend told me, the Buddist believer is strictly forbiden to get envolved to politics and violence, no matter what. All they know is the town they live. What you expect from them? Why we support China? Because we as Chinese American, are happy to see more chinese living happily on the other end of Pacific Ocean.

I am a Chinese and I think what she said is basically right. For what I experienced in China myself, I can see big changes from 80s to now. While maybe u westerner was not satisfied with what is and had been going on in China, I have to say all these changes are significant for us. But question is, while almost all Chinese can be patient with what they have now, why westerners r so eager to protest Chinese government? U think we have been blocked from outside? Quite opposite.

We have prostitutions too and quiet expensive. As the case just has been reported a few with ago in NY. Who forced these pretty girls into prostitution? I don't think is American government. I guess the free trade gives China surplus. Let's stop buying Chinese products but as many middle and poor class Americans, I enjoy the reasonable price.
