  • I'm not offended by the cross at all- they are artists, not our musical servants. I'm glad they aren't willing to compromise their ability to freely express (or have another artist create a freely expressive video for them, as 3Deelites said) themselves just because it might be offensive. Isn't the point of music to express and create what might not otherwise be embraced or accepted??

  • As I interpreter the symbolism its about an old lady dying and going to heaven. After reading the comments section; Jesus, have we all been so fucking duped by the retard religion "wars" that we can't even enjoy symbolism on the variety of different human cultures without either getting offended or getting pissed anymore? If not, we are nothing but cavemen.

  • They basically gave the track to an artist and said, "You have no boundries...Do what you feel." They did this for a few other tracks.

  • THIS IS WAY BETTER THAN DRAKE'S SONG LOL

  • its just a cross. who cares.

  • I really like this group's music, yet I feel very disheartened that this video has the christain cross in it. I'm an atheist, and a secular humanist.

  • @gergsar the cross is the way of life for some people. whether you agree with it or not...it exists. technically speaking, i don't think the quality of the video did anything to promote religion. atheist here too, but it's a tough life to be upset simply by an image of the cross.

  • @lolibaton You're right, it is vexing, to say the least. At least they had god as a woman ;-)

  • @lolibaton it's an easy life to dismiss very historically and socially loaded choices (intentionally or not) as neutral and beyond the pale for critique because the director has a soft spot for lovely old ladies embracing mysticism in their final days/moments.

We forget the line that precedes, about "the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions."

  • @heydola I would actually love to read a detailed analysis on why the cross isn't necessary in this video; I have nothing against a critique. However, I'm less fascinated by the declarations of people being offended by it. Youtube and Beach House never promised us anything when it comes to how much religious imagery we can expect. So I do live the easy life of picking my battles. I refuse to be emotionally affected by a cross in a video most likely resigned to the far edges of pop culture.

  • for such a great song, i think the music video could have been much better

  • Very David Lynch and very appropriate nice..

  • Aww, really tender brave video. I bet she has some awesome stories to tell. Older people are so undervalued!

  • @meaningoftheunicorn YES! I find it so touching, brave and important that an older woman was chosen for this video.

  • @counterhon I do to, but it was ruined for me by the christain cross...

  • Beach House, I saw you open for Vampire Weekend at the Hollywood Bowl in the fall of 2010. It was about that time when I was falling in love with a wonderful girl. About a year later we got married. This video above (my video response) was our first dance. Thank you for creating such beautiful music. It perfectly captured the moment for us. Keep making great art and so will I.

  • las palabras mágicas son esas: Yo cuidaré de tí si me lo pides , uno no necesita escuhar nada más para saber que esa persona es....

  • AW I wish that was my grandma

  • Okay I love this song but the music video is just completly ridiculous! I think I'll stop watching it before it completly ruins the song for me ahah!

  • kind of reminds me of the video for kate bush's "wuthering heights"

  • I love how they dance.. very powerful video..

just matches what I'm feeling in this moment in my life.

  • this is very tender, in the way I interpreted. I really liked it. You don't see a video so meaningful like this everyday.

  • The song is to respire every one to stay beautiful, never give up you are beautiful inside and out. It also has a meaning in the song: Take care of you, meaning I will take care of you always, its beautiful.

  • To be honest, from the first track from Beach House, which I heard in 2008, I'm hooked. And they only got better then ever. So let's hope that they continue for a long time to make this excellent music.

  • Everly Bros 2nd nephews band!

  • I got it. Made me cry.

  • @adrielygoes s'plain.

  • I liked the part where she mimed to the song xx

  • an old ladies LSD trip

  • better music video in my opinion: vimeo. com/12542110

  • so beautiful that hurts inside.

  • awkward? yeah i think so.. but it somehow fits this song.

  • I love old people who sing along to Beach House!~

  • when alot of people see anything that's weird, or out of the ordinary, it's immediately "Art". Just because something is different and unique, doesn't mean it's art. This music video is not bad, but I wouldn't really call it an amazing piece of art. there could have been more done with this song in my opinion that reflected the vibes and emotion this song naturally gives off. I DO give props to beach house for expressing themselves the way they want to. But, let's admit, this isn't genius

  • I love her

  • corr, that old biddy is alright

  • I think this bang makes great music but I also think their videos are lame as hell!!!

  • left me in a trance--in a good way; little old lady notwithstanding [ha]

  • I heard this song so many times before but watching this video made me cry.

  • I miss my grandma now :(.

  • Oh.. Anybody else read the His Dark Materials Tirlogy? Anybody else think of Will and Lyra with this song? Anybody even reading this comment? ha... ha...

  • I love you Beach house... so much.... thank you for this song.

  • There is only one thing i hate about this song, its that every time i hear it, i think of this video...

  • best song by far

  • Beautiful song, this band has quality in abundance.

  • I don't care, this video and song make me feel so good. Make me feel like everything is going to be ok.

  • This video makes me smile. :)

  • this video mades me sad but i love it

  • I wanna love someone now though BH. What's up with that?

  • Goodness, I haven't ever laughed this hard during such a beautiful song. I wish I could have helped make some videos for them. I feel like even with my lack of expertise, they still would have been much more appealing.

  • not keen on vid...but tune is a classic !! what a band !!! the world needs to know !!!!

  • beautiful tune. beautiful album.

  • This video first aired on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. After viewing it, the lady with purple hair was so overcome with emotion that she couldn't stop crying. And, to tell you the truth, I can't really blame her.

Incidentally, if you are ever driving though Costa Mesa on the interstate 405 freeway, you might be lucky enough to spot the headquarters of the Trinity Broadcasting Network. If you happen to be driving though at night, you will see "Happy Birthday,Jesus!" written in white lights.

  • This is a beautiful song. However, I wish I did not see the video. If the crucifix is intended to be a symbol for the afterlife, I find its usage here to be very clumsy.

  • YES! really amazing music video too

it's not supposed to relate the song it's supposed to have its own meaning which is fun to see in a music video

  • I don't think that its Christian symbolism so much as it is symbolism for the deceased or lost loved ones.Thats just the way i took the video.

  • Oy, the Christian symbolism really puts me off. Love the song, hate the vid. It would've been nice if the lady had something else as a background (i.e. more appropriate and appealing symbolism). oh well.

  • 'made by Kevin Drew & Co.' - as in Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene??

  • @fdnlt that is EXACTLY what I want to know lol!

  • I actually don't mind the video

  • love the song. hate the vid.

  • i dont care. i love the video.

  • I don't know why... this made me really sad. :(

  • At first I was a bit disconcerted, but now I think this is really quite powerful because it's so elegantly simple, and it seems to be quite layered. Very respectable indeed.

  • too bad they couldn't get betty white.

  • This video is my favorite on the DVD. It blew my mind the first time I saw it, and still does. Really really good work.

  • I love Beach House but what is up with their shit music videos? The only decent one I've seen is Heart of Chambers

  • @fdnlt I think you've got to really open your mind to them. They're experimental videos as opposed to conventional ones. You're totally allowed to not enjoy them. I guess is the point i'm trying to make is that artistic doesn't have to mean entertaining or beautiful. :)

  • Beach house takes you to a lot of emotions. The firsts tracks are really sad but when the albums comes to the end it's pure love

  • Official?

  • @MyLuckyLilFellow321 Yeah. This video is from a CD release of Teen Dream, which included videos for all of the songs.

  • felicity huffman in 40 years

  • I don't think the video complements the song very well. I'm sure that was the intent. I still think it's a wonderful song; I just close me eyes -_-

  • My favorite song of this album. SO GOOD!

  • @10splaya Mine, too. Can't stop listening to it.
