  • Fukn sik

  • u can surf that wave for miles. MILES.

  • @CriMSWoW about 5 to 6 miles to be exact, longest ride on this wave was 43 minutes long O.o

  • soooooo crazy!!!

  • Brazil?

  • Beware the Brown Trout!

  • i would not want to fall in that water......

  • Looooonnnngggg wave !

  • hehe chocolate barrels!

  • isn't a river bottom more dangerous than the sand along a beech?...I mean if you get wiped out by one of these tidal bores.

  • @JetMechMA Yes and no. Remember that THIS river bed gets scoured clean by a tsunami twice daily. I wiped out once on the Severn bore and got dragged along for a couple of hundred yards. It was smooth as silk on the bottom. Silt.

  • @neilandfi Good point. Interesting.

  • Dig the take on that Nirvana tune!!!!

  • anybody know what a trunk is? guy says u have to worry about them/i scored genius on trivial pursuit on sports./but i feel like such an idiot now for 2 days never hearing of tidal bores/one in china looks like a blast/way to go greg long nssalol i remember u

  • @surfactor777 He's probably talking about tree trunks. That wave is fierce, and tears off big chunks from some trees, uprooting others entirely. I have heard someone describe tidal bores as "Hairball waves", because any crap floating in the river can get thrown around by it. Stay away from the banks and keep your eyes on what's ahead of you, I suppose.

  • THATS AMAZING/HALF HOUR/I HAVE BEEN SURFIN 40 YEARS HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF TIDAL BORES/SURFER MAG HAS TO KNOW ABOUT THESE/THEY WILL NOW/AFTER APRIL 11TH AT RIPCURL.COM

  • people have surfed tidal bores for like half an hour up river ^_^ It's a natural phenomenon from incredibly low tide to ultimate high, creates sometimes a 30 ft wave.

  • people have surfed tidal bores for like half an hour up river ^_^ It's a natural phenomenon from incredibly low tide to ultimate high, creates sometimes a 30 ft wave.

  • that is every surfers dream/breaking perfect/speed and no body on it but u/ i wonder how long can it go/does it end on shore/so sick of closeouts in venice/that is paradise/i wonder how many days a year u could ride it like that amazing

  • @surfactor777 The really good thing you learn after surfing tidal bores a while is ..relax... the wave will still be there in a few more minutes.

  • @surfactor777 people have surfed tidal bores for like half an hour up river ^_^

  • @hiiamhelene Just over an hour. The record is now held (again) by Steve King on the Severn Bore in the UK. He surfed for just over 1 hour, 7.6 miles standing, then he went prone for a while which breaks the Guiness rules, so that's the record, but he went on to surf a total of over 9 miles that day. This wave travels about twice the speed of the Severn Bore. Sergio Laus holds the record for the Araguari Pororoca (this wave) at just less than Steve's mark.

  • What happens if theres like, pyranas in the river? Hum.

  • @chuckolove I'm told that there are piranhas, and like everything else, the force of the wave is enough to knock them around a little so they're running scared. A friend of mine just got back from here, and he tells me that losing the wave, waiting for the boat to come pick you up when you're over a mile from each bank with much bigger predators (Cayman, bull sharks etc) picking off injured animals is the loneliest feeling on Earth. I'm inclined to believe him.

  • @neilandfi IF U WANT TO SEE WHO THIS OLD SURF DOG IS I HAVE HERE KENNETHDAVIDEBLING SURFERDUDE 01 AVI/GOT ME RIDING A FEW/IAM LEGEND ON HATTERAS FROM A SPRING DAY 10 OF US TRIED TO GET OUT/I WAS ONLY ONE/REPORTED I HAD HIT PIER AND DROWNED/REALLY GOT WAVE OF MY LIFE/LOOKED UP AND COULD NOT SEE TOP/WORKED IT ALL THE WAY IN/FAST AND BUMPY/CG SPENT 20 GRAND LOKING FOR ME/HOME IN BED TIRED AND IN 7TH HEAVENLOL

  • thats awsome!!!!!!!!!!

  • The pororoca happens in different rivers in 3 different brazilian states it can be surfed like 50/60 times a year, it breaks to the right, left and it usually come in sets of 3 to 5 waves that can last from 15 min up to 1 hour the wave has been documented breaking with 8ft but there are stories of bigger ones depending on the bore variation and the bottom of the river. The water is clean, that colour is because of sediments from the jungle and movement on the bottom of the river

  • wouldnt wanna fall off?!?!?

  • espero que os gringos não venham estragar o que é nósso!!

  • hope u had all your vaccine sots, that water looks dirty assfuck!

  • i agree with wixnara, its exactly the same thing!!!cool wave though, must last 4 ever although i prefer left hands

  • Endless wave.

  • the song is an interpretation of come as you are - nirvana

  • @wixnarara Really? I thought I would have been Metallica - Master of Puppets! XD

  • its on the Amazon river in Brazil, this wave could run for more than 25 minutes...the real hazards are the natural floating trunks which could take you down , then the underwater plants which can tanggled you under for a while... got to be prepared!

  • @alexaustralia2

and dont forget crocodiles also ...........

  • Man youd run outa film on one wave

  • i think dude was just playing it safe all the ripping is for the beach!

  • DALE POROROCA DO BRASIL IL

  • Joel Tudor would be noseriding the shit out of that wave…..

  • That wave must be like liquid crack when a barrel holds all the way through

  • the song is a version of Nirvana-come as you're

  • That base line sounds like "Come As You Are". Biggest bore I've ever seen.

  • lolz.. once in 20 years or what?

  • The Tidal Bore Wave seems to never stop.

  • I love the way he does NOT slash the wave and just rides it

  • this looks great when i think of all the pounding shorebreak i have paddled through to catch some total walls, turn and get crunched, this has got to get your euphoria flowing.

  • coolll ride !!! bravo..

  • fake

  • where is this

  • @1234kaelyn

    Amazon

  • isso e bem barato, rapaz!

  • muito barato rapaz!

  • It's when the tide comes in so fast that it catches the normal flow of a river off-guard, and is forced to go over the regular flow. So you have the tide going one way, and, in this case, a gigantic tide going the other. Neat stuff.

  • cool! nobody snaking you except maybe da real snakes on the river bank lol!!

  • killer forever right, man

  • wow that is GLASS

  • song name = come as you are - nirvana but a remix

  • It even barrels!

  • That's so cool. But what happens if you fall off? Do you drown?

  • WOW

  • great vid! what´s the song´s name? artist?

  • now i know what heaven looks like

  • A surfer's dream come true.

  • Ya but there's only one wave, if you f#$k up the only thing left is wildlife!

  • thats gotta be the smoothest ride ever

  • To bad the guy can't surf that well...I would have been killing that wave!

  • ahaha probably didn't wanna wipe out and instead just ride for heaps long ? =D

  • In wanting say by me, this river becomes impure externals emergency and is a thing of looking dirty.

Anything doesn't refer even the thing of the lake.

Mixing is a sea. the bacillus and the poisonous substance I also consider this wave to be a very good wave.

  • You can see how fast the spray marks are taken away after each turn - a lot of river current makes the torque on the fins different to surf a wave like this. Must be like surfing a strong rip times 10, probably a leg burner, man, I would really like to surf that before I leave this place.

  • @VriakII Got it one. Absolutely spot on, yes. Tidal bores are pressurised water , trapped between two currents. Normal surf science only applies to a very limited extent. Everything handles differently. Low salinity as well, so lower bouyancy.

  • yeh buddy thats why alot of the best waves in the world Pipeline, Teauhpoo etc. are leftsfd

  • chocolate milk carving ftw

  • of course its a fucking right, all good waves are rights :(

  • no amazonas não tem crocodilo, tem jacaré, seu gringo tonto

  • The wave is the highest though water is very dirty.

It is wonderful because of the perfect wave made with the machine.

I think it is better than the sea wave.

  • @amp3cx10000a7jp

no you fucking idiot! the wave is not mde by a fucking machine , and the water is NOT dirty. It is river water, like all the other clean river waters in the world. Learn a little about Brazil before posting something u dont know about wis ass

  • There is no right said by you that it is foolish.

I say seeming in a dirty river that this river becomes impure with externals.

However, it is a good wave and there is no difference in a perfect wave.

However, originally surfing in the sea is true.

I have been surfing for 25 years.

  • wat happens if u fall like dont u get stuck in the wave or something??

  • @sharpieman42 You get eaten by crocodiles and piranhas... this is the amazon river

  • ma tipo c'erano i piragnah sotto di te?

  • @gasoSNP

Sì, piranha e coccodrilli lì, è abbastanza pericoloso, ma poche persone sono morso è molto raro.

    Greetings from Rio de Janeiro.

  • awesome - soes it come in a set or is it a one off thing? Valeu!

  • Tidal bores come once with every tide. But sometimes they will have trailing waves immediately behind them. Not exactly a set, and at times the trailing waves are too soft to paddle into...but that isn't usually a problem with the Pororoca.

  • Comment removed

  • merda

  • that is shredable

  • what happens when you fall of do you keep on going?

  • u tumble for 300 yards

  • fuck that man

  • I've wiped out several times on tidal bores. They don't let up. The current behind them is fierce, so if you're near a riverbank you CAN get worked right along the bank. But you can learn to use the current to your advantage.

  • u can find like this to at sri aman sarawak

  • suuuper!

  • what's the name of the song??

  • i don't know the name of the song. a few people have asked. maybe one of the brazilians here can i.d. it??? thx!

  • @rawa05 not sure about the name, but i'm pretty sure its by Tommy Guerrero, his stuff is really similar to this so it might be him, check his music out

  • My legs are cramping...just watching this ;)

    Thanks...

  • The Pororoca waves in Brazil (Amazon river) can last as long as 30 minutes... 13 kilometers...

  • awesome

  • That looks SWEET!

  • smOOOOOOth ride

    S-I-C-K

  • man that thing was almost barrelign enough to get inside well done

  • Most definately the cleanest tidal bore I've seen. Nice shoulder.

  • For sure that's a great section, but it's not at all uncommon to see tidal bores as clean as this. I think that they tend to get filmed from the same locations though, which means that those who don't surf them regularly never get to see the best of them.

  • Not bad, still, not quite as big as the severn bore.

  • Longest ride ever!

  • what style of music is it? dub?

  • whats the song????

  • thats probably one of the coolest things ive ever seen... ;)

  • He still should have backhand slammed that beast. Man, this shits on the severn bore!

  • I said about 50 comments ago that if I were on that wave I'd be slashing the hell out of the lip! And I'm a goofy foot! (And I'm not ragging on the guy surfing here at all...he's probably way better than me overall and I give him "props" for this ride...)

  • @jaydubya333 also, dude the wave is pretty dangerous and is fast so that's why he was being cautious about riding it

  • A little unnecesary, given that across the world, bore riders have respect for each others home waves.

But yeh, much bigger most of the time. Report from Sergio Laus says that this wave topped 7 metres on the face at one point this year.

For the record, the biggest the Severn has been this year is just over 2 metres. Look out for video of the Chinese bore ,which will get huge over the next couple of months.

  • to bad he was goofy foot, or he could have really tore that up!!

  • É Brasil

    q beleza de onda

  • MADE IN BRAZIL

  • amazing

  • aqui ate em rio tem tubo !!

isso e pra mostra que o brasil tem futuro no surf e principalmente no bodyboard!

  • This is the "Never-Ending Wave" right? This is so cool.

    What'd you do today bro?

"kicked it brahh surfed the amazon"

    ahah

  • thats sick bro

  • me gusto gracias!

  • i wonder how big that is when i went to the beach in daytona some of them were over 10ft tall! good times :P

  • this is in the amazon

  • I don't know what song it is. Might be named in one of the comments?

    -jw

  • what's the song?

  • don't pee in the water !

  • huh?

are you suffering from swine flu.

this comment is about to be deleted.

    thx,

    -jw

  • Well, I don't delete any comments.

    -jw

  • The water is clean, not drinkable obviously, pororoca is locatedo on the amazon rivers that ends on the sea, it is a really new discovery and yet we sthill not sure about the potential of the waves. It`s been registered solid barreling 8 minutes triple overheads already, but there`s been stories about 12ft waves

  • How filthy is the water? and how dangorous is it? Respond please.

  • It's brown because of the silt. So for me, that's only filthy if there's a lot of pollution held in the silt. I surf the Severn in the UK which is the same colour for the same reason. I've not been infected with any weird diseases so far. Dangerous...as far as the wildlife goes, best if a brazilian surfer answers that. The current following a tidal bore is beyond belief, so if your swimming isn't great..not good. The bore I surf is much heavier than any other wave of it's size

  • wow. what a beautiful standing wave

  • id die to surf that...but id be kinda skeptical on crazy wildlife they have there haha

  • little barrel at da top! nice ass wave

  • seems a lil boring.

  • You must not surf. I would give a toe to surf that everyday.

  • I do surf... and I think its boring to just stand on a board for 10mins. If thats what you like that's between you and your toe.

  • Why would you just stand there. I know when I drop in I go to work.. You can do whatever you want on that thing for more like 20 minutes. You should learn some turns and reversals That way you dont have to just stand there.

  • Understandable opinion, until you've spent a lot of time surfing tidal bores. Once you have , most people realise that there's no rush to get your manouevers in. The wave is still going to be around while you relax and cruise, and when you tire of that and want to throw in a few moves. When Jon Rose first surfed the Severn Bore he did something like 49 hacks off the top in 10 minutes, then he needed to get into a boat for a rest, and he's a pro surfer...the message is RELAX, BE PATIENT, ENJOY.

  • Woah Put the weed down bro! I am trying to say that when you get on one of those waves you cant do anything but a few cutbacks. Im just going off of what i saw in the vid. which wasn't much. I also saw a lil bit about em on tv and they said that you have to be careful with what you do because behind that wave is a bunch of debris and crap that got wash out of the river. If you think you can get as much fun out of a bore wave as you can from an ocean wave, then maybe you need some lessons bro.

  • No, I REALLY understand why you say that,but... There's one wave. Lose the wave and you're done surfing for the day. And staying on a wave for 10 minutes and more doesn't normally happen on any wave except tidal bores, so it's difficult to appreciate how much work your body is doing. As for what the wave offers, it depends on what banks, rocks and structures it flows over. But that means that it's likely to change character all the time. If one section is dull, just wait for the next

  • I fell bad for you... if you see power and perfection like this put together and see boring.... hm..

  • my dad surf a wave like that

  • Tidal Boring

  • BEST WAVE EVER

  • just got to be careful in the amazon piranahs do hang around there

  • THIS IS BRAZIL

  • sounds like a black sabbath jam!

  • I thought the same. It reminds me "Planet Caravan".

  • wow that the cleanest longest wave ever!

  • it's long becoase its in a river.

they go for about 500 miles is what ive herd some poeple estimate 700miles!!!

  • This is awesome!!! One question though what happens if you wreck? Are you stuck in tsunami like conditions?

  • do people ever bodyboard here?

    coz i'd go this.

it must mean 4 meter face because that would be a massive wave if it was 4 metre back (26ft face?)

    nay

  • 4 metre face. Most tidal bore surfers use non-surfing measurements because we can.. because the wave flows past objects of a known size etc. Never seen any vids of bodyboards on the Pororoca, but it happens on the french tidal bores (which they call "mascarets" and I do it on the River Severn in the UK, but they're both smaller than this. The Severn gets up to almost 3 metres at it's best.

  • Sooo clean

  • fuk that wen ton 4 ages

  • haha imagin the paddle out that :P

any way 1 hell of a wave keep it up man

    cheers dude ...

  • thanks, but just to clarify, as i posted earlier -- that isn't me riding the wave, unfortunately, nor did i film it. i downloaded it a few years ago...not even sure where from. just thought it should be shared, it's such a freakish wave!

    -jw

  • Good video, but "pororoca" is not a place name. Its the Brazilian word for a tidal bore.

  • thanks, appreciate the info!

    fixed it.

    -jw

  • Awesome bore.

  • just a curious fact, the record of pororoca surfing was in 2003, when Picuruta Salazar surfed 12.5 km in 37 min

  • But not a record recognised by Guiness. I have heard of Salazar's ride, and while I don't doubt he did it, there are several rides in excess of Serginho Laus' official record. In 07,Patrick Audoy and Eduardo Bage surfed the Quiantang bore for over 17km. Steve King once surfed the Severn Bore for over 12 MILES, but wasn't standing all the way. But as for records, the future will be all about the chinese dragon! They are now starting to allow surfing there, when officially sanctioned.

  • its a bit fat, imagine if that was hollow! my god that would be paradise man.still i would LOOOOVE to glide across that thing.

    cheers

  • aww thats so sick man! wish i lived there

  • uh...not sure what that last comment was about. but what the heck anyone can post anything they want here. i'll still keep shreddin.
