Before LEDs and when Transistors were new,
some numerical displays used in frequency counters and
other test equipment used Nixie Tubes.
It's like a neon light with ten Cathodes
Grounding one of them will cause the neon gas
to glow in the shape of a numeral.
Obsolete now due to LEDs and LCDs, they make a 'retro' clock.
