I was staying in the Holiday Inn in Los Angeles on the day of the match and listened to it on the BBC World Service on short-wave on my little portable radio. After the final whistle, which was about 8 am LA time, I went down to the restaurant, to discover it full of locals enjoying a St Patrick's Day breakfast celebration, all of them oblivious to what had just happened at Murrayfield.
I was there! Thank god we now can sing our anthem in time! I love the hush over Murrayfield when the pipers stop on the second verse... Bill would be proud'
scaud , I agree with you scotish colours must be navy tops and white shorts as french colors must be blue tops with white shorts. we should give you our dirty navy tops. pierre from France
Flower O' Scotland being sung as the National Anthem, a grand slam victory over the 'auld enemy' and Bill McLaren commentating. Was there ever a more perfect day than this? remember it like it was yesterday, and will do so as long as I live!
a day i will never forget.......in fact i could tell u where i was that day watching the game........one more thing,,,,,,R.I.P Bill McLaren......the Scottish God of rugby.......
Watched this when at uni in Lancaster. Was the only Scot in The Water Witch pub. Stood up cheering and elated at every opportunity. At final whistle, rough bird turns to boy friend and says, "God, look at 'im, hit 'im!" I grinned and noone will ever take the memory away. Saw Finlay Caulder several years later and he was mild and totally unassuming. He was amazed I remembered who he was! How will I ever forget?!!
Remember that colour? Nice old navy blue. Why doesn't the SRU stick to it? Get rid of the grey and the silver. It's a mockery. Navy tops and white shorts. End of.
For me the best things about this were...the standing-only terracing behind the posts, the way someone would hold the ball still when the kick was being taken and the pure white/pure blue shirts completely free of advertising. Aaaah those were the days.
did the pipe major after rehearsal and deliberation get the end of the song out of sync because he had never listened to it being sung anywhere ... surely there were enough corries CDs bought and sold ?
like the painting in celebration of this: "the underdog rampant" a more fitting title there will never be!

I absolutely love this video. Thanks for posting. Flower of Scotland gives me goose bumps! So I hope the next time Scotland will qualify again.

Scotland had some tremendous players around that time.
Gavin Hastings missing that penalty in front of the posts in the 1991 semi was a shame. They may have won the world cup had he kicked it.

Being Welsh i was delighted. A famous match, and not the result England were expecting.
